Incredible rear view camera!

I bought the Audiovox Advent CAM430MV rear view camera for my wife’s 2011 Honda Civic 4 door sedan. I spent some time researching available products, but could not decide between an ultrawide panoramic view (170 – 190 degree) and more moderate angle (120 – 130 degree) view camera. The panoramic wide angle cameras have a wider field of view, which is better for checking for oncoming traffic backing out of parking spaces with adjacent obstructing vehicles. However, their ultrawide angle “fisheye” lens makes the images very distorted. The 120 – 130 degree lenses had much less distortion, but of course do not show oncoming traffic from the sides as well as the panoramic “fisheye” lens cameras. Then I came across this camera. It lets you select either view with this camera, plus 2 other views (straight to the back and corners only), with the push of a button! As far as I know this is the only camera with the option of switching between viewing angles on the market. When backing out of a parking lot space with vehicles parked alongside obstructing our view we select the 190 degree panoramic view angle to check for oncoming traffic from the sides. When we back into a tight space we select the 130 degree rear view angle with grid lines, or the “straight back” view. Incredible versatility!

In addition, two mounting brackets are provided with the camera: A license plate mount bracket and a surface mount bracket in case the license plate mount is impractical. The camera also has menu options for different mounting heights and off-center mounting on the vehicle. It has an excellent IP-69 waterproof rating, which is higher than that of any other camera that I found. Normal and mirror image views are selectable. It also has a 3 year warranty. Finally, although this camera is not advertised as a “night vision” camera (since it does not have IR LEDs for illumination in total darkness), we are able to use it at night by replacing the stock backup light bulbs in our Civic with much brighter “JDM ASTAR 1200 Lumens Extremely Bright 144-EX Chipsets 7440” LED bulbs from Amazon. In summary, my wife and I are extremely happy with the camera and can recommend it very highly.
