Run Active
If you don’t want to spend a big chunk of change on a DSP I suggest you get this instead because of its ability to run 2/3 way active and time alignment. The only u it’s with better sq then this cost around a $1000 bucks so at Sonics price it’s a steal.

Perfect deck for audio enthusiasts
This alpine deck is awesome! It gives you so many different audio choices that at first it can be overwhelming, but once you get used to fiddling around with it, and really understand what each feature does and how it applies to your system, it can be a wonderful joy in exploring how to fine tune your set up. I think the only complaint that I can possibly say I have is the light by the usb when the door is closed is really bright and catches my eye, so I tend to leave the usb door open so that I don’t see it. That could be just because of the way the deck sits in my civic but as far as functionality this thing is spot on the best and I would not trade it for anything. I did have issues with receiving my order because sonic doesn’t tell you that Alpine is a special order item, so I ended up getting my stuff in 3 weeks instead of 3 days which was a bummer.

Alpine CDE-164BT
Very nice unit ..... very difficult to navigate though. I am a hardcore Alpine fan, so I am biased.
I will continue to tweak until all is well. Another awesome Alpone product .....

Alpine CDE-164BT
Love the sound and changing color hues . Fast delivery too
Nobody does it better! Alpine and Sonic FTW!!!
Alpine coming in with the sickest deck I've ever seen! Unbelievably clean appearance in the dash. Sound Q is top notch as you all know, and the bass engine system is out of control... easy to use and brings out bass enjoyment the likes of which I've never heard before ;)
PS....save up and buy the Alpine KTP-445A speaker amp and get some factory speaker ---replacements----!!! just go for it! you will not regret it!
I am blown away by sonic electronics ability to ship and package all of these items in such a timely manner with courteous phone techs for any issues.
I couldn't be happier with my new stereo guys, thank you again!
Great Sound, Usability and Convenience are terrible.
I've owned this Headunit for about 3 months now and am very impressed with the sound Quality and adjustability for sound settings. I bought this headunit specifically for the 9 band parametric Equalizer and time alignment. I didn't want to have to buy a digital sound Processor to correct the frequency imbalances in my system. It sounds absolutely brilliant now after bringing in a microphone and an RTA to tune.
After having owned about 5 different headunits I can also say that this is the least intuitive unit I have ever had. In the future, I think I'll stick with a very basic headunit, and get a digital sound processor for my needs. This is simply way too hard to operate. Things like trying to find a button without taking my eyes off the road is nearly impossible. The Source button is extremely bright. I have tape over it to stop myself from being blinded at night, and I cannot figure out why Alpine wouldn't also use it as the power on/off if you hold it down. Instead the On/off button is a very small button with a very hard to read little symbol surround by other hard to read buttons. I'm still not sure which it is and sometimes I get it wrong even after owning it for 3 months.
The screen of the unit is also very bright at night. This is even after the source button was taped off. I tried dimming it the first day I had it and didn't even realize it was already on dim. Now I leave it on dim all the time because it's too difficult changing it back and forth every day and I can still see it clearly in broad daylight. The unit is so bright at night it casts shadows in the car. I'm afraid that if I ever make the display blue I'll be pulled over for having blue lights on my vehicle here in Georgia.
Overall I will admit that It is really a decent unit with a lot of good stuff built in. Knowing how hard it is to operate and how bright it is, I would personally not buy it again because I do a lot of night time driving.
You also may think I'm an old man or unfamiliar with aftermarket gear because I complain about buttons and lights and stuff like that. I'm just 23 and want to keep my eyes on the road. LOL.
Excellent head unit -- can run front stage with active crossover
Nice feature of this 2015 Alpine unit is the ability to run active -- crossing the mids and the tweeters to separate amps. Slopes/levels can be adjusted easily. Alpine calls this 3Way mode and is a rare feature for a HU at this price level.
Pros: Active-capable 3Way operation with better 24db slope options for Low, Mid-Low, High than was listed in the owners manual (my unit was produced in Aug 2015). SQ is dynamic, clear, detailed -- maybe a bit bright, especially with tuner as source. Strong RCA output. Well designed interface.
Cons: Limited amount of presets (12 FM/6 AM). Primitive 2 line display, though easy to read. No remote included.
My first Alpine, coming from a long history of Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony/Sony ES. Alpine definitely has the SQ advantage with their head units.
