Great HU

I'm a car audio installer, I do this for a living, and I see and install everything that's available out there so I'm able to compare a lot! That being said, this Alpine is a GREAT head unit, but it has some pros and cons... Here we go!

Pros;
-Great looking screen, it will look factory in most vehicule if installed properly!
-24bit DAC will get every bit of detail out of your songs (plz people, stop downloading less then 128-256kbps MP3s...)
-EXTREMELY fast bootup! about a quarter of the time it takes for Pioneers and Kenwoods to boot...
-Very fast Ipod and USB browsing!
-Very easy to use, big icons buttons...
-Great Parrot Bluethoot, works fine, people don't actually notice that I'm in my car, they think I'm just on the phone lol...
-800 x 480 resolution for good quality video watching (whit a 7" screen, it looks pretty much like a full HD TV...)

Cons;
-No volume knob ( + and - buttons) but this is the price to pay to have 7" screen...
-GPS is not the best (6 000 000 POI vs 12 000 000 for most good quality GPS screens out there...) and it is SLIGHTLY off sometime (but not half a mile away lol) but it is easy to use!
-The only sound tunning is Bass-Treble, HPF and subwoofer control (most good quality screen have AT LEAST 3 bands parametrique EQ, sometime up to 8 band graphic...) but it is ready to receive the Alpine PXE-H100 Imprint Digital Sound Processor to kick it sky high in terms of sound tunning!
-The preouts are only 2 volt... 4-5 volts would have benn nice but at least you have 3 pairs (front-rear-subwoofer)

All in all it is crazy good, fast beautiful and easy! The guy that said he had all the probleme in the world with it probably had a defective unit and/or have no idea in the world how to install car audio lol... The GPS is not the best, if you are buying it FOR the GPS, go for Kenwood or for Pioneer! I actually was happy about the fact that it had simple sound tunning because I have an external Sound Processor with wich I do all my sound tunning and I can just rapidly reajust the lows ant highs on the fly without having to fiddle around with a gazilion band EQ lol...

Bottom line people, good screen, AWSOME Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) sound if terrific (and I'm VERY hard to please...)

P.S. The Ipod probleme that someone else talked about is probably due to IOS6 wich this screen DO NOT SUPPORT 100%! it works but no garanties...

Waste of money

It's pretty, to bad it doesn't do anything, misses locations by 1/2 mile or more, that have been there for years, will not connect with a good blue tooth phone, will drop ipod hard connection for no reason. In other words, JUNK, not impressed and will never recommend ANY alpine product.

amazing

I have been watching this head unit for a while. I decided to buy it. This has been by far the best head unit i have ever had. A little pricey but in the end i am very happy. I also have two L7 12s with a 1600 watt class d mono block hyphonix amp. Also alpine mids and highs. The system is crazy loud. It is all tucked in my 2008 hyundai tiburon. But back to the radio. I would definatley recomend this head unit

Best double din i have had period, the gps is great and the sound quality is awesome, plays any cd i put in. I can't say enough for this older radio but Alpine is the best.
