Cool engine noise.......NOT!

I recommend this only because its the only way your going to get XM on your JVC head unit. There is one flaw which is making installation difficult and that is engine noise and I believe it is due to the fact that Audiovox decided to go with the thinest power and ground wire available. My wire strippers couldn't even work properly on them and they can strip down to 22 1/2 AWG. I'll eventually find a way to properly ground this cable but I shouldn't have to be put through this due to someone finding a way to reduce the production cost.

Great Kit

The interconnect kit is well made, although the in-line fuse holder is a bit cheap. The instructions do not indicate if the fused +12 volt lead is connected to vehicle switched ignition or +12 volt HOT. We chose IGN connection for a good reason. The XM satellite receiver draws 190 ma. of current at +12 vdc even when the user's radio is switched over to AM, FM or CD. We didn't want the 190 ma draw on the battery all the time.

The downside to the IGN connection is that PRESETS for the XM stations will not survive the power down. To maintain XM presets the installed must connect the yellow power lead to +12 vdc continuous.

CNPJVC1 XM Adapter

I bought this unit to connect to my new JVC deck. This adapter allows me to receive XM radio signals. Works great and the product price was reasonable.

Cable for Sat adapter

Worked as advertised and I had no issues connecting it to my JVC Head unit. The cables are tie-wrapped and taught and seem to be made of sturdy materials. But there is the way it's angled at the back, that might be a JVC issue rather than the cable manufacturer. It's minor and was easily maneuvered.

Adapter Cable is Functional but Flawed

As far as I can tell, this the only adapter cable to attach an XM tuner to a JVC head unit. There are two issues with this product:

1) The instructions don't explain how to hook up the power, because initially, the XM tuner would power off when I shutdown the engine. This caused the XM preset stations to be erased.

2) The cable picks up electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the engine ignition circuitry which is heard as a high pitched whine.

I had my unit professionally installed and had to return not once, but twice due to these problems. The first was easily fixed. The second is probably related to grounding, or possibly lack of shielding. Whatever the cause, the professional installer reworked the grounding but could not remove the whine. You only hear it during quiet moments in between programming, but still it's annoying after paying so much for the entire system. I'd be willing to pay more for a better designed cable.
