Good Value

No problems in 6 mo's usage. Signal to noise is good. Only issues: bandwidth is wider than I would like per EQ band (so one freq slightly drags the adjacent ones with) and the resolution of the short-travel sliders makes tiny adjustments difficult. But the unit is so slim, this is to be expected. I would prefer rotary adjustment versus linear to improve ease of fine adjustments. I use it as a one time system EQ so once it is set I don't access it daily. So my comments are nit-picking. I am very satisfied for my intended app. I would recommend a unit with longer travel sliders or rotary pots for users wanting to make frequent adjustments.

It's okay

I would recommend this product if you want sd, cd, tuner but don't care of the way it functions when it comes to sound it makes towards the speakers.

Good product, looks very nice

First of all, the picture for this product looks to be outdated. The item as I received it looks much nicer, with a silver and black color scheme. This is a standard half-din equalizer. Contrary to the description, it does NOT have subwoofer output. It has controls for frequencies ranging from 60Hz to 15kHz with a 12dB adjustment in either extreme.

Other things it has:
-High level inputs
-A single two-channel RCA low level input

-Two seperate front and rear channel RCA outputs
-A 3 amp inline fuse in the power cable
-A one year limited warranty from Boss

This will suit you well if you want to adjust the sound of your front/rear speakers seperate from a sub. My amp comes with a seperate remote level bass control, so I pretty much use this equalizer as a high level crossover to tweak the sound just the way I want it.

Don't waste twice as much on a more popular brand just to accomplish the same thing. This thing works just as well as more expensive products and actually looks really good. It'd go great with any black/silver color scheme you've got going with your receiver or whatever else in your dash.

Simple Equalizer

The price is cheap but the sound quality is good. From Highs to Lows, I can get my cabin speakers (6.5in front/rear) to sound more rich and full. Mounting and the install was easy but after hooking up the wires (power from the radio and negative to the chassis of the car and the remote turn on wire to the radio also), I got a humming/whining noise out of my speakers. I simply rewired my power wire to my direct power source from my distribution block that goes to my amps and the whining and humming noise basically went away. If your EQ still has a whine/hum noise, I have used a power noise filter and it worked for me in removing the noise on other EQ's. Also this EQ does not have any subwoofer out but I don't need it. My JVC radio has a subwoofer rca out and my amplifier has a remote volume knob with a louder button +12db on 40hz on the amp so this equalizer fits my needs well.

Old school EQ

I love this thing. Most people don't know what it is. Installed it myself, wasn't to hard. Works fantastic. Really shapes the sound. And looks awesome.

You will not find a better 7-band EQ at this price.

I spent a considerable amount of time poking around for some kind of inexpensive "in-line" EQ solution, and this device is IT. The intended use for the unit is car audio, but it can also be adapted to many other uses. In my case, I'm using it to put some basic EQ control into the "aux" input of one of these small, bookshelf stereo systems that has pretty decent power (30W/side), and nice little speakers, but really poor/limited audio controls in the head unit.

While it is a "passive" EQ (that is, it provides no amplification of the signal being run through it), it nevertheless does provide a modest signal boost when any of the individual frequency sliders are pushed above center. I suppose everyone's results are going to vary based on their unique system/use, but I found the "X-Bass" feature to be a marvel ... push that thing, and POW ... speaking of "signal boost" ... it's like you kicked your system into a whole different gear. The sliders are nice and firm, and work very effectively on their designated frequencies, but the unit is also very compact, so the transits are small, and require careful/patient adjustment. Once you've got that figured out, though, they're great.

The case is all steel ... only the faceplate is plastic. The rear RCA connectors are a bit flimsy (they're not bolted to the case, but just situated on the inner circuit board so they stick out their corresponding holes in the rear plate), so you need to be careful when connecting/disconnecting your RCA plugs, and should probably avoid frequent placement/removal of the plugs. No surprise there ... the unit is designed to be installed in a car, and then pretty much left alone. I didn't mess with any of the external wires that allow front/rear fader control of an auto system, so can't comment on that function. The fader knob is nothing more than a pretty decoration in my application.

Several users have complained online about the reference to a "sub out" in the product description being "misleading," and rightly so. There is no such control/out on this particular EQ. The reference is an error on the manufacturer's part, because it also appears in the user manual that comes with the unit. I'm guessing the mistaken reference to a "sub out" came from Boss' product description for their different version of this EQ that DOES have a sub out/control: Boss AVA-1204. I informed the manufacturer of the error, and hopefully, they and Amazon will finally correct it. If you want/need separate subwoofer control, don't get this EQ ... take a look at AVA-1204.

Fortunately, I didn't need any subwoofer control for my application, so overall, I'm REALLY happy with the looks, function and price of this unit. A superb value.

Simple Equalizer (Still working strong)

Update to my previous review from about 2 1/2 years ago. The price got even lower here @ sonicelectronix.com and this eq is still giving me good high to low sound quality for my 6.5 in speakers. I am also liking the led green/yellow/red level meter. I have set my 4 channel amp gains to match the level meter so when the level hits red, I know when my speakers will start to distort and to be careful turning up the volume any higher. All and all, still a good buy for me!
