Boston Acoustics PRO60SE

This is the second time I have purchased these speakers for use in a ski boat. Clear, concise sound that doesn't distort when the volume is turned up. Classic, clean look. Pair them with good amps (like JL Audio) and you'll be thrilled with the quality.

Wonderful speakers

I just installed these speakers earlier today. I am running them off of an Infinity Kappa four with the tweeter in the factory door location. The sound is incredible, they sound more rich and warm than the Infinity Kappa Perfects I replaced them with. The 3 ohm impedance is a plus, they are very loud and clear. I was very impressed with the low frequency response of these speakers, although I have them filtered so my Polk SR can pick up the low end and lighten their work load. So far I have tried and listened to many different types of speakers around this price range (These being the most expensive yet) and the Bostons are clearly the best. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who is looking for quality sound reproduction and supurb detail. I am always very skeptical before buying a set of speakers, but i was more than pleased with these.

PRO60s are excellent sounding speakers

These speakers bring out the detail in your music even at high volume levels without distortion. At first the tweeters sounded a little harsh and aggressive. So after doing some reserch I found that my 85 watt per channel RMS amp was being pushed into clipping. So I installed a 150x2 RMS amp. Now the tweeters sound nice and smooth at high volume levels. After a few weeks I had to go back and reset the systems levels and gains. Dont know why. Maybe the speakers had to break in. Sound damping material brings out the best in these speakers. The PRO60s are one of the best sounding speakers I have owned. So if you have high powered subs these speakers will keep up with them and balance out your system.

Boston Acoustics PRO60SE

Phenomenal sound. Tweeters require a fair amount of tuning or they get bright (some call it harsh) very quickly. Excellent mid-bass. Just Wow.

Best Boston Sound Ever

I purchased these about four months ago, since then I made sure they were properly installed had enough power and were adjusted properly. (That is very important) so after my break in period I opened them up and had an eargasm. It is like hearing my entire music collection for the first time; I did not even know what I was missing. These babies have spatial and tonal clarity beyond anything I have ever heard. To those reviews stating that the highs are to harsh, please remember there is a tweeter attenuator adjustment inside the crossover. Who can go wrong with such a great company like Boston, and who can go wrong with Sonic prices? I will buy only from here with their incredible prices and great Customer support.

Very BIG dip in the mid range

Very BAD frequency response for a set of speakers in this price range.
BIG dip in the mid range. Maybe as bad as -4db @ 1.5k.
I had them in my SUV for less then 3 months when the woofer blew on the left. A few weeks later the tweeter blew on the right.

Boston Rocks

I have used Boston Acoustics for car audio and home equipment for years and have never been let down. These PRO60SE can handle anything you can put in to them, the more power you give them the better they sound. The price is very reasonable. If you want something good thats fine but if you want something great these are it.

Outstanding Speakers

I love Boston speakers. Put these in my wife's car and they are amazing. Took a while to break in but now the detail and quality are amazing.
I really like the metal tweeters in the Boston. I have JL C-5's in my car and wish I had these Boston's. The silk tweeter just does not do it for me.

best speakers i've ever heard

These speakers are really nice. They hold the bass really good. And by that i mean it sounds better than most speakers. No rattling. I have literally nothing hooked up to them yet. And they are loud right now. I bet with the amp it will sound like some 8" subs. Don't let the other people here tell you that they have very little bass. They don't know what they're talking about. I mean it's not a lot but the sound to it is. I have no amp hooked up, none of the crossovers and they still sound amazing. But sometime really soon they will be.

worth the money

I took a chance on buying the Boston Acoustics Pro60 se speakers and I am glad I did. These speakers were worth every penny. The sound quality is unreal and they perform beyond my expectations. The different mounting options are a plus. The only con was having to buy mounting brackets because the ones that came with it did not fit. Over all I would highly recommend.

Very loud, but clear

Nice speakers, would recommend using with very bass-ey systems that need definition. These component speakers have very good mid bass and midrange. The only draw back is that the highs can get down right aggressive! They seem to sound better without an amp, highs are more subtle and easy. Overall pretty good speakers, you will hear a lot of detail in the mid and high freqs, cuts through wind noise. Could not figure out tweeter mounting hardware.

Bought and use Boston PRO 60SE - Great purchase

For the price, these speakers are really great! They have a great sound and I like the installation options. You can either mount them with the tweeter coaxially or as separates. The crossovers are really burly and do their job. Did I mention how great the sound is? I have four of these in a 350Z Roadster and they are the heart of my system. With the top down and rolling the sound is great. Paired with a excellent amp and a quality HU and you're good to go!

great value

These continue to be a great product. I use these as the high end of a four way system with two JL zr 800's and a 12" sub. What's not to recommended??

By No Means the best

Great look and very durable. Very good sound quality but I was hoping for Great. That's why I say these are just ok. Also Purchased the SL95 6x9 and they are absolutely AWESOME! Don't know why the Pro60 SE component set doesn't even come close to the 6x9? Overall a decent speaker set, but I would definitely have wished I did even more research than I had done already. For the price I expected much, much more.

Love these speakers!!

Great pure, cystal clear sounding speakers. If you love natural and warm sounding speakers, these are the ones! (if you like heavy bass, you will not like these). Highly recommended.

Amazing Speakers

I must say these are some of the most amazing speakers i have ever owned. They get loud and i mean LOUD! Without distortion. What i really like is the tweeter, it does not sound too harsh. I love the fact that they are biampable.
DO NOT buy these speakers if you are feeding them less then 150w (thats still too little) they start to come alive at around 200w (i was feeding them close to 300w with a GT-2300 amp) and they came alive. It was my favorite setup until i blew one of the speakers in a reinstall.
Only downside to this was the cone area is smaller then a normal 6.5 and the it runs in 3 ohms and not 4.
If you are looking for a great over all speaker that can play HIP HOP - ROCK- JAZZ this is your speaker. Trust me i spent alot of money on speaker. My current speaker set is Focal 165v3 (great speakers but i miss my pro60).

Can NOT beat the value!

Extremely happy with these speakers, and you simply can't argue with the value.

I put the tweeters in the dash of my Xterra and they were WAY too bright, but thankfully the crossover is adjustable and a -2db drop made them sound perfect. Thanks Sonic Electronix for a great deal and fast shipping!

Boston PRO60

I being a car audio, sound only installer for about 10 years. It is just for fun. Being installing the most known high end components for the past 4 years or so. Most people do not know boston acoustics so they don't even want to here a bout them. O well. Back in 03 Install them on a VW I had, a set at front an a set on rear. Head unit Pannasonic, amps Kenwood and unknown Brand 15" sub. Competed 4 times on SQ walk with 3 1st place and 1 2nd place. Recommend to any one jest install them right and you will fall in love with this BOSTONS.

Amazing Sound Quality

I've had the Pro60se's run off of an alpine 3522 for 4 months now, which means they are getting around 60 watts a piece. I have the tweeter installed using the factory mounts on the woofer. I have the tweeter annotation turned all the way up. My head unit is an Alpine 9886 and i have no sound deadening in the doors. Now that i have all the logistics out of the way, I can start explaining my experience! The sound quality of these speakers is really something other companies should rival. They reproduce the sound so well that it seems as if you are sitting there in the music studio listening to the artists record. Every instrument is reproduced at great volume levels so that you can hear everything perfectly.
Pros: Excellent Sound Quality, Produces good volume at half the RMS (keeps up with my BTL well)

Cons: none found so far.

Eh

I Personally have a pair of these in the back of my truck... Just like some 400.00 dollar kicker components these Bostons too blew.. When I say blew, they sound like crap.. Still looking for a goos set of speakers.

Great set, loves power

Pros:
Shallow mount depth
Attenuation options for the tweeter (-0db, -2db, and -4db) via crossover
Soaks up power fed to them without distorting (provided input isn't distorted)

Cons:
Expensive compared to entry-level
Tweeters almost require using the mounting adapters

Overall:
Running an entry-level amp rated at 90W RMS @ 4 Ohm to these. Slightly below RMS of speakers, but not an issue if I don't feed distortion to them. Great clean sound although tweeters needed attenuation to -2db or -4db as they are fairly harsh at -0db.

At this price level, most interested parties are already well aware of the capabilities of these so this review is likely unnecessary.

Best speakers I've heard.

I have these powered by a Fosgate T400-2, so at 3 ohms impedance they are getting ~200W a piece and they use it all. At the loudest listening levels there is still zero distortion.
The tweeters at first sounded a bit bright to me but they seemed to become a bit less harsh after some break in time.
The sound from the tweeters for voice or cymbals/high hats is amazing. Very very precise. The low-end from the woofers is also good, but you will probably want a sub to help them out with below 60 Hz.
The highlight for me is the mid-range bass. The drums and guitar sound amazing and pack a huge punch with no lag between. The crossover is also very solid. You have have trouble hiding it in your door panels as they are large.

Boston Acoustic Pro 60 SE

Hi good people of the Internet, let me start by saying that I am an audio maniac, infected with the disease of loving music more then the average. I have professionally recorded as a musician in several studios and after working on several albums I really got into car audio. I always wanted to know what was the best. I purchased some Rockford Fosgate, I purchased some Focals, I only dealt with high end brands brands that I was told were the "best". Now my new install was done as recently as January 4, 2011 just to keep you on the loop. Being tired of all the various shenanigans that I had experienced thru my years of being a car audio maniac, I decided to go to a professional shop this time. They dynamated all of my doors, including my trunk so there would be no rattle. I am using a Kenwood Excelon DNX-6960 with three 5v pre amps as my head unit, Alpine PDX-5 as my amp to run my front and rear speakers, including my two 12's who are Rockford Fosgate H2's. Now let me make sure I make this point perfectly clear to anyone reading this post, even do it has only been two days since my install and these speakers still have a break in period, let it it be understood that these are the best speakers that I have ever heard in a car!!!!!!! I have owned $1500 pair of Focals and they do not even come close to the Pro 60 SE!!! I repeat not close!!! I owned the Focal K2p's and let me tell you the Boston acoustics are the truth!!! When I told my uncle who has been a music maniac for at least thirty years, his only comment was "Boston Acoustic?? Why that is for the connoisseur of music a true Audiophile." My uncle was right!!! My only regret in this entire process is that rather then getting a Secound set of Boston Pro 60 SE for the back doors I got a set of brand new components the t2's by Rockford fosgate. Don't get me wrong the Rockford's are good but the Boston's are phenomenal!!!!! Simply amazing!!!!! I can't explain the cleanses of sound that I get out of these speakers with my Alpine amp. I wanted in amp that was good and would not suck to much power, yet could give me insane sound, well these 6 1/2 speakers gave me that and more. One last thing before I go off into the sunset, get a professional shop that knows what they are doing to install these bad boys so you can get the most out of them and take them to there full potential, I have only begun to enjoy these and when I listen to music it is loud and I like it crystal clear. One more last thing, anyone that bad mouth's these speakers either don't know what they are talking about, those not know how to install this product properly our works for another brand and is telling lies about this product for a market advantage, and that is the bottom ligne. Boston Acoustic is the crystal clear truth!!!!

Great sound and value

I purchased four Pro60's for my Ranchero Retro Mod and placed them in the doors. They have surprising highs and great low end. The crossovers really help tune the speaker to your listening tastes. I purchased these for half the price of a walk-in dealer / installer. Great value and I plan to purchase all of my future auto sound accessories from Sonic.

awesome speakers for the price!

I love high quality music, I guess I might be called an audio file. I put these speakers together with my Kenwood DDX812 receiver and a JL Audio HD600/4 amp. Also have a JL Audio SB-F-F1502/10W3v3/TP subwoofer. This combination is unbelievable, the quality of the music sounds like I'm right there live. There is no cons. If you love quality sound then these are the speakers for you.
