Great Deal, Great DVD player

I bought this in dash DVD player six months ago, and its still working great. Its comparable to the Jensen line of in dash DVD players. The screen is probably one of the best parts of this unit. Its amazingly clear. Easy to install and use, lots of features and connectability. From what Ive seen, its also very durable. A few weeks ago someone attempted to steal it out of my car, they pried on the faceplate and it didnt break off. Overall, this was an awesome buy, and I may buy another for my other car.

Pretty good

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

This unit is easy to install and even easier to use. There are not too many features but it is great for the money. Also there is no video input so you can't play video games on it or things like that. The audio in only plays a blank screen and doesn't allow media to be selected from the screen. This unit does however make the subwoofer's bang. This unit is great for car audio beginners.

extraordinary buy

I bought the Dual XDVD8181 in December of 2007 and it is an extraordinary buy. The good things about it are the sound, features, and style. The sound is remarkably clear. It sounds even better with an amplifier and subwoofer! The features are almost endless, a front/rear camera input (that you can easily switch from your music, movie, or radio to look at the camera with a touch of the screen), a fine equalizer, and an iPlug connector that plays the music from your MP3 player. There are lots more, but I would be here all day trying to tell you. The style is beautiful (though it does not fit right in my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, even with the fitting mount adapter); the screen opens and closes flawlessly. You can set it to where when you turn your car on the screen slides out and up automatically, I love that! The touch screen is unbelievably accurate (when calibrated) and the picture is beautiful, the next best thing to High Definition…ha-ha! I loved the easy installation and setup.

Though it has all of these great features, there are flaws. Every time I turn off my car and open the door, letting the CD/DVD player shut off automatically, and turn it back on later I have to setup everything again (calibration, radio stations, etc.). Somehow, it keeps resetting its self. It does get annoying, but I learned to live with it. Plus, it will not play a badly scratched CD or DVD (note: those bad CD/DVDs play in just about everything else). Last thing about it that can get a little agitating it the loading time. It takes about a minute or so.

Despite those flaws, it is a great buy, great deal too! I recommend it if you do not mind the flaws. Also, I would like to add that SonicElectronics.com did a wonderful job on the shipping. It got here promptly and safe.

awesome screen.

This is a great buy for the money. Easy to hook up. Great picture. The way to bypass it is to do this.
1. when the screen turns on put in a dvd.
2. when there is no picture but you can hear the sound do this.
3. press stop on the remote twice.
4. type 26604 on the remote.
5. Then press enter.

if that doesnt work just get a paperclip and hit the reset button on the front of the unit. It will work then.

Remember you have to hook the parking wire (yellow with a blue stripe) into the ground wire(black) when you put together the harness.

Great product- easy to use

I bought this unit about 3 months ago, and it works flawlessly. The controls are easy to use and find. The sound is fantastic and the color, clarity are way better than expected. The motor opening and closing the monitor works so well it seems effortless, unlike the Alpine I had before. I am very pleased and this unit was hundreds less!! The not so good?......The faceplate is not removable...Overall ..One of my smarter car stereo purchases.

nice

Just installed this unit in my 03 Tahoe. It works nice. Vibrant display is the best bet for your money. I have two freinds who just purchased this unit off of seeing mine in action. If you have the money get it.

Junk

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

I never really trusted Dual, but I bought this product because my wife wanted it for her car. When I noticed it only had one RCA output for subs, I knew then already that I wasn't going to like it. I don't feel this deck sounds like a real head unit should with a pair of subs hooked up to it. I feel that this unit sounds shallow and weak. I would not recommend this product unless you are just buying it so that you can have video in you car.

IT CAN HANG WTIH THE BEST

Just purchased and received this unit. It installed so easy I was amazed. It far exceeds my expectations. The picture is crystal clear and so is the sound. Don't be fooled by the low price. It's a top notch unit.

Great Unit

The Dual XDVD8181 is one of the best decks I've owned. Easy install. Clear picture and good sound. Wish it had the blue tooth option and more fine tuning of sound, but still a great buy.

awesome head unit

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

it's done nothing but impress me since it survived a role over accident with me last dec and it is one of the coolest head units i've ever seen my friends and girls when they get in my truck i pop out the lcd touch screen and i get the o wow from them all the time it's an awesome little head unit and i love it only thing is lately it's been causing lines on the right side of the lcd screen i'm thinking this is causes cause i might not have things grounded right and the power supply is being run by a bad cap so other then that it's a great headunit i highly recommend it

great product

This product is an excellent buy for anyone. Low price and great quality. The review from the person about all the settings and presets resetting when they turn their car off, isn't because of the radio. It's because you hooked it up wrong. Anyway, mine works great. I'm loving it. Peace!

Worth every penny.

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

I read the 2 previous reviews and was a bit worried, but then my worries disappeared after I realized that I was buying exactly what was described.

1) The unit is $259.99. I understand I am not buying an DDX8019 or some other super high end unit. Needless to say, this unit does everything I expected and more. The DVD playback is fantastic, screen quality is clean and features are a plenty for the price range.

2) The previous reviewer stated he doesn't like a "mono sub output" and that made the unit bad, but an audiophile realizes that all your subwoofer signals are going to be a mono signal coming from your monoblock amplifier; additionally, for those like the other reviewer, you can just get a Y-adapter if you really want 2 plugs coming out from it (its all the same).

3) It will improve your factory speakers compared to your factory stereo unless you are trying to put it in place of a Mercedes or BMW high end factory audio system. It made my PT Cruiser sound much better.

4) I have had mine for about 2 months and it still works new, so I'm happy :).

Maybe I am a guy who views the glass full, or maybe I just know a good deal when I see one ;).

good buy!

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

I have no problems with the unit, i can play all cd's even burned, i have burned alot of cd's and haven't had a problem! only thing i don't like is it dosn't have an output for a multi disk cd changer, but if you burn all your cd's to mp3 and put it on a dvd R then you have no problems there, just bypass the parking brake by pressing the parking break on then off then only one click and you have dvd functions!!! just like those dumb running lights! one click does alot of difference on the pocket book!! only knock down is for not having a input for a back up cam!!

Wow its pretty awesome!

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

I bought a version of this about a week ago (The XDVD710) and it is amazing for the price! It does everything I want it to do! The one I got came with the iplug adapter and the ipod cable, which charges my ipod as well! For wiring my subs, I just got a "y" Adapter. I would strongly recommend this to anyone who wants quality entertainment at a great price!

Great Buy

I was looking at getting a DVD player for my truck and I found this baby. For the price you cannot go wrong with it, it has great picture quality on the screen. Mine for some weird reason goes back to #1 when listening to a CD sometime, but other than that PERFECT!!!

Everything you need

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

Got this for Christmas. Had it installed teh day after. Since then, i hate driving with people that don't have one. For $250 you get all teh functionality of a $700 In-dash. Haven't had any problems with it since Dec. Would highly reccomend to anyone who is either just starting out like i was or wants to save some money and get a quality screen.

WOW!

I had seen this in two cars before i decided to get my own, and this product is awesome. Being able to switch between everything you own with just the touch of a finger. And after a few y-adapters the possibilities are endless. two 15" and four extra monitors.

Loved it

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD8180).

this is the best indash dvd player and all in one unit. gave me no problems at all, installed in 30min myself, however i didnt connect the parking wire so the video didnt show at first but then i connected the parking wire the the grounding bolt on the back of the unit and it worked like a charm even when i was driving(dont recomend to do both at the same time).
the only bad thing is, after i had it for two weeks someone opened my car(neatly), ripped my whole front panel off and ripped out the whole unit. there were finger prints all over but cops said they cant do anything about it.

im going to buy one more of these and make a locking door on top of the unit so that no one sees it when its closed.

Decent

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD700).

My best friend had this deck installed in a 99 dodge ram, it looked really nice and i liked the ipod connection and the touchscreen. however, i wouldn't say it was the best quality because later a while the screen got kinda loose but other than that this is a good, low-end type dvd player for fairly cheap, good buy for the price.

maybe

i wouldn't recomend this cd player to anybody who plans on using the ipod or MP3 settings. when you scroll down to the next page, rather than showing more songs it will just say the song you're currently listening to for the wholes song. my cd player also often freezes at 1:45 and you have to eject the cd for it to function again. slow operation, doesn't tune to radio stations well. i would recommend spending the extra money for a name brand radio. this radio is very disappointing for me.

its an alright unit

This is an OK unit, i've had it for a week now. It seems that its very picky with CDs so if your CDs have a few minor scratches on them it will have problems reading it. i found the touch screen not very sinsitive and i had to push it a few times to switch tracks. Also the screen lags 2-3 seconds and doesn't update very quickly when u switch tracks using the remote or the bottons. i have NOT looked at other brands such as BOSS or JENSEN so i am not sure whether r not they have similar issues. I saw some people mentioned that it loads the CDs slow, but thats NOT true. It does not take more than 6-7 seconds to load and play a normal CD. The screen brightness is OK but it could have been better. Overall its pretty good for the price you are getting it for. Also it looks a better than the Jensen that was my second choice

Dual xdvd 8180

The following review is for a previous version (XDVD8180).

Definitiley worth the money if you get the extended warrenty. It has 2 AV outputs so you can have ipod and ps2 in your car, unlike the dual 8183 and most other high end dvd players. A lot of features for little price. Ive had this unit for a little over a year and 1/2 and have had to exchange 3 times, which is why anyone that gets this should get the extended warrenty. Also you can ground the parking wire so you can play movies while the car is moving, unlike the dual 8183 and some other high end dvd players. Overall a worth wild buy
