Good unit for the price!

Three things lead me to choosing this unit -- Detachable faceplate, price, & features for the price. It's installed in a 2004 F350 coupled with the Pyle PLCM19 license plate RV cam. There's alot of good about this unit, but I'll write up the things I don't like mostly. It's important to lower your expectation of the unit when it's less than half the price of a mainstream brand.

Faceplate: I really wanted a detachable face plate because these trucks are very popular with thieves. This one has been broken into 4 times. The faceplate is easy off & fairly easy back on. Like any detachable face, it's got to be lined up correctly first, and then this one take a fair amount of pressure to lock it in place.

The manual: A good owners manual is important for anything that has so many feature. This unit comes with a decent manual IF you're already proficient and aren't afraid of trial & error to figure a couple things out. There are several inaccuracies in the manual as well.

General UI: The user interface is odd & unintuitive, but it works. The screen setup & choosing what icons you want to have is a nice idea that's poorly built. They could polish up a few things and it would be real nice. I have 2 specific complaints about the UI:
1- It takes 2 taps on the screen to adjust the volume: One to display the volume control and then a second tap to adjust or mute. A bit of a pain if you want to make a quick adjustment.
2- Blue tooth phone setup is terrible. I finally figured out that you have to tap the "PHONE AUDIO PAIRING" text instead of the "PHONE VOICE PAIRING" to initiate phone pairing. It does remember more than one, but there is no way to "manage" the pairings. Once it's setup, it works fine.

Display quality: Definitely not HD, but good for what I need. It's a little too bright at night. It can be dimmed, but it takes a couple screen taps to do it. The auto-dim (if illumination lead is connected) doesn't dim enough. On the other-hand, it's nice & bright during the day.

Sound quality & volume: I am just using factory speakers, so I'm not after high performance sound. It's plenty loud & clear for my 4x4 diesel truck.

Radio: I have no issues with the radio operation outside of the volume control access as already stated.

SD & USB player: Works fine. Can only shuffle play inside current folder -- not across entire card/stick. Song title displays filename instead of Title from metadata.

DVD: Works fine. No serious quirks here.

Phone: Once you get past the quirks in the pairing process, the phone function & quality is OK. The function is not as good as a factory integrated system, but it all works. (My truck does not have steering wheel controls.) The sound quality to the person on the other end is a bit choppy in a noisy truck. Mic placement may remedy this.

Rearview Cam: This is another big reason I purchased a double din unit. I wanted a rearview cam for this larger than average truck because small cars are otherwise invisible behind it. I also wanted the rearview cam for hooking up to trailers. It works well for both purposes even with the cheap license plate frame cam.

All in all, I am happy with the purchase so far. I'd be happier with a more refined unit like those offered by better known brands, but I'd also be out at least double the money.
