Farenheit TID897NRB

I would definately recommend this radio. I did my homework b4 i installed it. If u take your time and read the instruction manual, u should have no problems out of this radio. I mean read!! SECURITY FEATURES: Partial Faceplate removal and a bracket to bolt the radio in. I have had a radio stolen it wasnt bolted in like i did this 1. So easy to use my girlfriend dumped me for the radio...lol no really, she likes the radio so much she wants it to replace her jensen flip up screen radio. NOISE: Quiet unless screen is flipping up or going in. SCREEN: everything looks good, digital TV looks analog at times. SOUND: if u have your woofers, speakers etc hooked up properly, the surround sound is on point. Has options for the subwoofers my other expensive radio's didnt. COMPLAINTS: So many options equal so many wires so the radio wants to shoot out at me when i press the release clips to slide it out from the dash. It is installed in a 2002 Yukon XL so I have to pull the gear shifter forward when the screen comes out, and when its about to go in. I can then let the shifter go once the screen is all the way out or in. OVERALL: Cheaper than my GF's Jensen and I really am glad i chose this radio. Also more features than her jenson. LOOKS : Sleak. Havent tried navigation yet. Partial plate, is flimsy, i am afraid i may break it 1 day.

keep looking

If your broke then this is the head unit for you. Which is why I bought it. After buying it I saw why it was so cheap. There is a huge lack of controls. Bass controls are minimal, screen picture is lacking. Very loud opening and closing the screen. Overall I'd buy it if I needed it and was broke other than that keep looking.

Great Value!

I recommend this radio for the person on the go. Ease of operation. Security features like detachable control unit.

MUCH better quality than I could ever guessed...

Don't know what the other dude is doing wrong but mine works FLAWLESSLY...When I got my unit I wasn't exactly expecting a very high quality unit, but boy was I wrong..This thing is built like a brick.... very heavy and very sturdy parts... everything is solid, and shows excellent craftsmanship. The menu system is a bit ugly but everything is easy to find and easy to operate. Surprisingly, the blue-tooth detected my phone and worked right away, with no problems. The best way to play movies and music is right off the SD card... songs and vids load the quickest this way... Looking for a great , solid unit for under 300$... This is it... SD card support and it plays DIVX files.... WOW... PLUS, i didn't even have to do the toggle switch mod to get it to play while driving... mine worked out of the box..hahah..

Buyer beware

Bottom line here... you get what you pay for. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it shows my background pics, sometimes it completely erases some of them. For the price, I suppose you should expect some problems, and this unit has some. Save your money for a top of the line model.

Good for the price

This was my first Farenheit the player is loaded with tons of extra hookups & aux. I mainly bought the unit for bluetooth so me and the wife could go hands free. Surprisely it works very well! It has a mic on the head unit and a external mic that you can hook to the head unit to run closer to you but we did not use the externel mic because the mic on the head unit is very very sensative i mean you can here a pin drop in the vehicle. But sadly after having the unit two or three months it started to reset it self all the time what I mean is it would loose all its memory you had set in. So I liked the unit so well that I returned it for another unit. This really isn't a bad unit for the price I am going to finish my review in the second unit coming. Sonic Electronix stands by their warranty. I had no problem returning the unit and getting another.

Had unit for almost a year now...revised review

I've had the Farenheit TID-897NRB for about a year now..this is a very honest review so please read

Screen Quality : 7/10 the matt finish on the screen is a bit much as im sure they made it this way to avoid glare. Most videos look pretty good but lack crispness, and color depth

Ease Of Use : 4/10...the menu system on the player is very clunky and not well thought out. To get where you want, sometimes you have to navigate thru 5 other screen to get where you want. the manual is pretty bad, and you pretty much have to teach yourself through trial and error.

Sound: everything sounds great except the bluetooth. I have a droid so i know its not my phone but thru bluetooth you lose all sound quality and about 50% of the volume...Its really only good for taking calls, and even then its hard to hear the person unless u crank it up.

Remote: 1/10 there are 100 buttons, the manual doesn't explain what 95% of them do.

Touchscreen: 4/10 the touchscreen works well, but i played most of my music off my sd card...Problem is, to navigate thru the card you cant use the touchscreen,,you have to use the arrow buttons on the remote..very dangerous. Once your into an album, you can then use the touchscreen to go forward and back thru songs but you are stuck in that folder/album untill you press stop with the remote, find the album you want, then press play on the remote. If you were to lose your remote, you pretty much could not use this unit

Other: when you go to the next track on the sd card, the sound studders once, then starts, and you have to press the button twice to go forward or back songs.

I notice that many times the unit would not power on till i pressed the reset button...then I had reset all my settings every time. This for some reason got better over time, but once and a while, i still have to reset the whole unit to get it to turn on

When you shut your car off, the unit automatically closes every time.,you have no option to turn this on or off

You should be able to display an album cover with each album folder while it plays,,The best you can do is display your screen saver, which never changes unless you do it manually, and once your screen saver comes up, you cant navigate thru your music without the remote.

Overall the unit is good for the money, but it has many annoying quirks that you will just have to look past. i personally feel that 240$ is still alot of money, and you shouldnt have to "settle" for that.

Wavering

Installation was a breeze. The large screened navigation visibility is excellent for my wife who is constantly on the road. She loved it at first, but has complained about the screen not retracting upon turning off the ignition. She also complained about the CD delaying up to 45 seconds during play. My wife stated that when she tries to listen to the radio that static is too much that she ops to turn it off. She loves the ease in setting the navigation along with the preciseness in getting her to her desired location. She has mentioned that she wished that the USB hub was a direct connect rather than an attachment. We are considering replacing the unit.

good piece of hardware here!

This deck is a great, great buy for the money. Here is what I love, it is vastly expandable with its sd input, usb input, aux input, camera input, front, rear and sub rca's, navi input if i WANT TO ADD later.

the bluetooth picked up my droid really fast so I can dial from the headunit, look at recent recieved, outgoing, missed calls and look through my phonebook. the unit also has a auto answer on/off button for bluetooth. the music is controllable via the dash and I stream pandora from my phone to the deck.

the bluetooth also had a graphic eq that dances with the music, just a basic one....but it is a nice touch because you usually don't get graphic interfaces at this price level. I like the wallpaper slides that turn on, once again this is always nice especially when you just like looking at your deck.

the deck was very straightforward to use and install and has a nice piano finish on the outside.

another note, the touchscreen is really responsive, its not very laggy at all like it expected it to be. more responsive than the valor units in my opinion.

overall, very happy especially at this price point. and from what people have told me, they hear me very well through the supplied mic for the bluetooth calling.

Caleb

The pros of this unit: The picture quality is great, and the touch screen is convenient to use. The cons: My remote quit about 4 months after buying it, the interface with the i pod is terrible. it does not allow anything other than a shuffle. the unit also seems to get to hot, too hot to touch if it is running while closed. I would recommend purchasing the warranty or saving for a higher end unit.

GREAT PRODUCT

The first time I bought this set it was very easy to install and very easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to use hands-free with their cellphone, want to see pictures of themselves or their family. Also, the screen quality is very very great and there is no problem with it at all.
