Well Built Enclosure, USA Quality

I have several Ground Shaker enclosures that I use for R&D. I am using the SQP 2 8 for a 7 inch 2 way speaker design. I build custom front plates to accommodate the drivers, and this price can't be beat for a .6 CF well made cabinet. I line the insides with carpet felt and add poly fill.

No resonances, perfect for design, they look and sound great.

Not bad at all

First off just let me state that this box is "cute". That was the first thing my wife said upon me removing it for it's shipping container. The box was noticeably heavy and felt very well built.

I fitted 2 Skar SD-8 into the box with a little coercion. It was not an overly easy task. I had to notch out some extra space for the basket of the subs in order to get them to fit. And once they were anchored down, the box was almost tank like in weight.

The subs had already been broken in in another box so I was free to play. Listening to music the subs sounded good, after tweaking some settings I got them to sound great. They hit hard, fast, and relatively deep. They were out playing the 12" sub I just pulled from this vehicle.

Now it was time for the true test. I had procured a CD from the last local bass competition, it has several mixed tracks of boomy music and then goes on to a frequency sweep and then linear low frequency tones by track number. I started low at 20hz and was not disappointed, they are 8's after all, I didn't expect much but got more than foreseen. Skipping along and listening to every 3rd track, I kept getting more and more impressed. By the time I hit 44hz I was blown away. Now mind you I am not a huge fan of high playing sub/box combos but this is something absolutely awesome. I was having trouble focusing and talking to my buddy was not an option anymore. We both just grinned with delight. I have never owned 8's that could make me gasp, but in this box the impact was huge.

I may at some point get a larger ported box for these subs but at this point, this little tank of a box will do just fine. Overall I am very impressed.

awesome box!

I put some sundown audio SA-8 V2's in this box assuming it wouldn't hold up but to my surprise the box has zero port noise and handles the sundown monsters great!

Ehh

I was disappointed with this box. It looks good, but mine came with air leaks by the thin plastic terminals. It sounded awful until I sealed up the leaks with caulk. Another thing I noticed on my box was that a smudge of wood glue had been spilled onto the carpet leaving a yellowish dried blob. I will say it was decent sounding after the air leaks were fixed but not quite as good as I hoped.

When will prefab manufacturers get it right?

It's a nicely built box, but for newbies like me who are learning more and more about car audio each day, will soon understand that these prefabricated boxes are tuned hideously high. People use these boxes for subs, not tweeters. I had to give a friend the measurements to calculate the tuning because the manufacturer won't. I ended buying an Atrend 8DQV, same as this ground Shaker but larger, and my JL 8w3's hit slightly louder and deeper, which made a difference for me.
