egh...better then stock

first set of aftermarket speakers and for the price they are better then stock but i didn't see a huge difference... had to drill new holes to make them (barely) fit in the stock hole. I would never pay anywhere near $400 for these things but they are decent.

Well.. Not sure

I bought a German car, its cost me thousands in repairs so far, and is in the shop now...Bought these "handmade German" speakers here and hoped to be surprised. I was,,, just like I am about my car...
Theyre in a chevy 1500 (doors) with stock ( actually very good) headunit, no amp. Yes, they sound better than the stock speakers. No, they arent "audiophile" quality. Maybe if they are amped? Bass is "ploppy"- had to turn down the low to hear them- the rest is OK at best. Im not real sure a Walmart Jensen pair wouldnt be better? Im thinking they'd be a good set of high/mids with the proper amplification, but Im not ripping out my system (new truck) to do that. Im also hoping that after a while they'll break-in and maybe sound will improve? I feel very sorry for the folks who paid $399 for them new, Maxxsonics should give them a credit/refund! At $67 w/ free shippingthey were worth a try, they are the back doors of my truck, intensionally, so if they werent too good no big deal. Im still looking for a good pair for the front, with a little bass capability, definitely not these MX6 tho!

Lets get that rating up

Lets be clear here. The nominal power rating on these speakers is 60-120 watts. They NEED to be amped. I would not recommend these for anyone who would be hooking them up to a head unit. It's a shame to see some of the negative reviews on here when the owner isn't even giving the speaker the power it needs to reproduce frequencies correctly.

I have these speakers amped in my rear doors on a dodge durango 2001 at 100 watts per speaker. I only wish I had more juice to give them, although I am afraid they might punch right through the door if I did. I have a set of Polk Audio DB6501 component speakers in the front and the Mercurys are every bit as clear and responsive on the high end, even more so on the low end. Would definitely suggest sound dampening with these speakers. I was looking for a speaker that would give me some quality rear fill behind the drivers seat and could keep up with the Polks (not easy with the polk tweeter mounted right next to my face). Even nestled down near the floor, I can make out these speakers clearly (and feel them slap me in the back). After turning my volume almost all the way up (and nearly blowing my eardrums) I experienced very little distortion from them (maybe none at all if I gave them the full 120 watts). This is a good, quality set of speakers, and for 60 bucks? Come on, buy them already.

Everything has negatives, however. In this case, I would say that the design is minimal and the grilles are hardly impressive. If you are mounting them out of sight, this should mean crap to you.

Speaker basket appears to be constructed out of some kind of heavy duty plastic composite. I had initial concerns that the plastic might be too weak of a material, but the speakers feel sturdy regardless, and appear to be holding up just fine.

Slightly, slightly larger than your average 6.5 inch speaker. They fit fine with the Dodge OEM speaker spacer, but you may have to modify your stock speaker location a bit or create a spacer for them. Depth wise, they are no worse than any other speaker. Measure, measure, measure before you buy. There are a ton of mounting holes around the rim of the speaker. Don't worry about being able to screw it in.

Came with no included anything whatsoever. I realize they are marked down from 399.99 (who comes up with these prices?) but seriously, nothing but screws and the speakers. I always have wire and terminals on hand so no biggie, but be aware.

Bottom Line: Loud, Crystal Clear, Good Thump, excellent price. These would not be out of place in a competition level setup.

These speakers are loud for the price

These speakers are the first aftermarket speakers I have installed into my SUV they bump pretty nice. Sound quality is good as well. Although I think after installing these I want a new subwoofer that hits a wider range to complement these speakers.

not worth it

I bought two pairs of mx6 and hooked it up to my dvd head unit and but only hooked up 1 pair and 1 speaker failed within 2 - 3 minutes on just 17 to 30 watts. Only the dome tweeter played, I would not recommend anyone to buy this product.

These are AMAZING!

I am a borderline audiophile and I have owned many different speakers over the years. Infinity Kappas, Clarion, Polk, Alpine, and other less known brands. I am a big fan of Polk Audio because of their clarity in reproducing mids and highs. If you look closely at the spectrum on these MX6's you'll see that they are up there with the Polks and other top marks. I took a chance on them and am very happy I did. They sound superb straight from an Alpine head unit. It would not be fair to judge these with anything but an excellent source.

There is a review here that claims the sound on these is "horrible". I couldn't disagree more. Do your research, and if you appreciate high quality sound, consider these. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Very Bad Sound

I purchase these speakers 2 weeks ago , just for testing and though that they will be more great then my Boston Acoustics, but i was very Disappointed with the result , Horrible sound, i would never use these speakers again .
Sorry for this review but this is the truth about the MX6 .

mx6

2 pairs installed in a chevy trailblazer. Other than that they did not drop right in (had to trim a little plastic on the factory mounts) they sound great on the factory radio. The wifey did not want to change out the radio because it is a 6 disc changer and has the dual zone in the back. These speakers are made very well and should last the life of the car but yes I do agree they were made to put some power to. With just the factory power its a walk in the park for the mx6. The ease of use is low simply due to the cutting.
