Image Dynamics XS65 Review

Well I consider myself a person who really cares about the way my stereo sounds. I love Image Dynamics products (speakers only). I do not have any experience with their amps or processors. I especially love the Idmax subs. They are by far the best sounding subs I have ever heard (including JL Audio, RE, and even Image Dynamics Idv3 and IDQ v2 and v3 subs ).

I have a modded 2006 Ls430 with old school US Amps amplifiers, an Alpine Headunit (IVA-D901) and processor (PXA-H701) along with all Image Dynamics speakers (3 Idmax Subs, IDQ midbass in the rear doors, 8in ID subs in the front doors, CD2 Comps Horns, and XS65 midrange drivers in my kick panels). My set up is 100% active with no passive crossovers.

Now that you have a basic understanding of my set up, here is my honest opinion of these drivers. I feel that they sounded as good as my previous 6.5in drivers (the old Image Dynamics CX62). Unfortunately they did not perform as well at loud volumes played over extended periods of time. I usually play my stereo system at car shows for brief periods of time ( 30 - 45 min) at moderate to high levels. Unfortunately, the XS's voice coils overheated during one of my stereo demonstrations. The Image dynamics soft dome tweeters didn't hold up very well either.

So here is my recommendation, if you are looking for a great sounding pair of 6.5in drivers, the XS65s are great provided you are not playing them at very loud volumes for any extended period of time. Otherwise I would have to say that the old school CX62s are a better choice for prolonged loud music. Honestly given my set up I could not hear a difference between the two drivers (XS and the old CX62). So given my current knowledge I would prefer to use the CX62 due to the fact that I never had any problems with them. Hope this review has helped someone.

Powerful neo midbass driver.

Needed another one for my XS65 set. These mid bass drivers are fantastic. Not much to say except that they sound great and play very loud with issue.
