Beast!!!

Wow, this thing really sounds good!! I have one of these and a crunch 1500.1 mono amp. i can flex my roof like 2 inches!!! It handles all of the power easily, my box is tuned to about 28 hertz. I am very impressed with this subwoofer.

HOLY SH*T

I would strongly recommend this sub. I just bought one today; placed it into a 2.0 cu. ft. ported box and HOLY BASS! This woofer sounds great. The lows are extremely accurate and, did i mention LOW? I have it underpowered at approx. 250 rms. I've herd basically everything out there and for 200 dollars you CANNOT beat this. My 1 12 alone hits lower and harder then my 2010 Kicker Comp 15s (no joke) Enjoy!

nice!!!!

I am running one of these in a 3.2 ft. box tuned to 30 hz powered by a 2400 watt volfenhag amp. The bottom line is the rated power for the sub is way underrated with phenominal output. just wish i could get two more!

Good sub

I contacted JBL and the comment in the previous review about this sub being 400W per coil. This is not true. The JBL P1222 has a total RMS of 400W. Hope this helped

great sound

I have two of these subs in a custom ported box in a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. I have them running @ 2 ohms on a mtx jh2400 and they sound great. I have never heard subs hit this hard and sound this clean.
They are a bit bulky for a 12 but if you have the room for them buy them. Great product!!

not as great as people say

I'm really rather disappointed with this. can't stand to listen to metal with it because every time they do like a double pedal bass drum it doesn't respond fast enough to discern separate hits of the drum. when it comes to rap its adequate, but it bottoms out at too high of a tone. my old rockford fosgate p3 hit much much lower. also the frame on this thing is way too big for a twelve i can't put it in a lot of boxes because the part you screw into the box hangs over the edges of the box. I've never had that problem with any other sub.
so all in all i guess its ok but there's much better options for about the same price. probably gonna get rid of mine and get a jl w7 or something

Bumpin, Thumpin, and Slammin.

I own 2 of these bad boys on a 2000w JBL monoblock and they POUND, I have them in an undersized sealed enclosure and they still hit just as hard or harder than anyone around, I would recommend these subs for anyone who wants to POUND HARD and have amazing sound quality, I have friends that have loud systems but they dont have the deep rumble that my system has. If you plan on buying these sub's note that they are 400w rms and 1600 peak PER COIL so thats 800w rms and 3200 peak per sub, I talked to a JBL employee to find that out, the only downfall for these subs is the mounting rim, it is 14-5/8" from side to side which makes it difficult to find a box thats the right size and fits the subs right, other than that little discrepancy these subs are amazing, and you can get them for a steal here at sonic. Expect nothing less than AWESOME from JBL.

Amazing Subwoofer!

I'm running this at 1 ohm in a sealed 1.2 cuft 1.5" thick MDF enclosure with cotton fiber lined interior walls. The output is incredible. My previous woofer was $10 poly cone Dual 12" in a ported enclosure. The JBL P1222 puts out so much more sound that i had to turn the gain and bass boost down to zero. The 97db sensitivity is for real. It's in my computer room and has no problem shaking the entire house. It's powered by an older US Amps XT1000D amp at 15 volts. I can only imagine what this powerhouse would do in a car. My P1222 plays with some 1980s JBL tower speakers that have 10" ported woofers. The P1222 by itself has so much more bass output than the two towers that i can hardly believe it. Together it sounds amazing for classic rock, rap, Starcraft 2, anything. Buy this sub, and buid a very strong box for it.

helpful information

Hi Luke,
Thank you for the inquiry. The P1222's would make a great match
to the GTO14001. The amount of power that the amp will generate into
the cumulative 2ohm load the two subs will create is a great match as
each voicecoil in each sub can handle 400w RMS. This translates into a
total power handling of 1600w RMS by both subs. I hope this is helpful.

very loud

This woofer is really loud and has a deep tone to it. I only have 200 watts going to it and it sounds great. It did seem to need a bit of a break-in period cause it sounds even better after several days of listening.

JL Who...OOPS I mean J.B.L.

Listen guys, I have 2 of these monsters, and let me tell ya.
At 1st I had them in a medium sized sealed box, and it just seemed wrong to imprison them. I have yet to here 2 12in. subs drop-nuts as hard as these things do. I am running them parallel on all v.c.'s to a Concept HP 1000 amp. It's rated at 1000@ 1 ohm, but if you level match everything it'll run about 110 degrees F. all day. At a 0.5 ohms
which is what my subs are asking for. You do the math!!!
