A +++
I was looking around for a headunit for months. Decided on the JVC KD-NX5000 for its numerous features and accesabilty, but to my dissmay, it had been discontinued from every website google took me to... except one, Sonic Electronix. I have used them in the past and was happy with the products and service... but this was a refurbished, discontinued item which was (way less money than new) still a chunk of money. NO Problems, working and physical condition were very good. I recommend this unit to anyone who likes ALOT of bang for the buck!

Wonderful radio
I installed this in my Porsche and it functions exactly as I hoped. No other radio would do everything this one will. I highly recommend it.

Great Item!
This is the best receiver that I've ever bought. It works like a charm. I really like the HDD function. It let me stop having to keep so many cd's in my car.

Awesome radio! Fits the bil perfectly for my single din space
It was easy to install not complicated. Love the radio. It does not have touch screen but that is ok with a small screen it would have been hard anyways. But with the remote I just move the cursor and am very fast at it now. I would have loved to get a 7" screen in my car but with the single din I was limited. I really wanted the navigation and DVD in my car so I tried this radio out. The screen is small compared to a 7" but you can actually watch a movie on this! I hooked up the handbrake wire to the ground so I can have the DVD playing while i am driving. The Navigation works great, is it the best? No It is not... but I don't use it that much and when i have it does the job just fine. If your one of the Apple or BMW geeks which nothing is ever good enough for you go back to where ever you came from. Considering the restrictions in space JVC packed alot of stuff into the radio and I am very happy... I have a 2 seater SLK so my daughter can watch her DVD's fine but if you have a 4 seater I can't attest to being able to see it from the rear but I am sure you could if you sit in the middle the screen is bigger than you think. For the price i love this radio. Oh yeah I love watching the cursor for the car in the navigation mode, I was in the parking garage and it was cool the cursor would turn everytime I turned the wheel in the parking garage.

awesome
I bought this a year ago from here, refurb for the same price you see now. Everything works and works well my friend bought his couple years before me but he got it for like $1000!! i payed a lot less, haha. i love it, it can do anything you can think of. i wish i could update the gps tho, it has 2006 i think maps and i can't figure it out i have tried searching for a way. i mean it still works, just sometimes it will get confused espeically on new or changed roads, that is when you just have to know your surroundings some or click entire street and then just look for the number, if the number doesnt show because it is new, or w/e, conufusing you?? sorry.. haha just buy this!! unless u got money for newer one, then go for it.
i want an ipod classic 160gb tho cause i am always deleting music off the built in 24gb, but 24gb is a lot for your average human, most ipods are 2-4-8-16-24-32-160 pretty much so it does it's job, i just listen to everything and have artists full libraries...

Porsche perfect
I installed this unit myself in my 1992 Porsche 968 where I only had room for a single din unit. The install was easy, although you do have to hook up the speed sensor cable which I did behind the speedometer. The GPS works great and the screen is quite big enough. While I was at it, I installed a backup camera so now when I shift into reverse, I get a rear view on the display. You can also switch to rear view while you are driving forward to see who is following you. All in all, a great unit.

Single Din Navigation
Very cool Navigation if you do not have room in vehicle. it is a single din navigation. It is the only one I could find. It went into a sports car. I could not use a flip up style the air ducts are above the stereo

Great deal for Single-DIN navi
I have a 1st gen (96-00) Sebring Convertible, which is 1.5 DIN and won't accommodate a flip-out scree unit easily.
This looks to be the only offering out there for single-din navigation... and it is actually discontinued. I shopped for several weeks after my CD changer died and I was unable to order a new replacement and finally settled on this.
Sonic is awesome as usual, their shipping was a little slow... but this was worth waiting for and is definitely worth the price. The hard drive is great (takes the place of my changer). The navigation software is the same you'll find in other headunits and you'll likely always be able to buy map updates.
DVD/DivX playback is great... especially with the remote. The controls take the learning curve to a whole new level... but it is totally understandable given the simplicity of the faceplate.
I actually came back to order a second unit and decided to write this review.

horrible screen and customer service
Its quite possible that this is a great head unit, however, 6 weeks after I bought it, the screen started blinking and changing colors like there was a bad connection somewhere. After removing and reinstalling the device to try and find an issue, I contacted sonic electronix multiple times, but they would not assist me in replacing the product because I was 2 weeks past my 1 month warranty.

JVC KD - NX 5000 - S2000 perfect. single din navi.
The bad and the good.
Bad:
The order took several days to ship from Sonic. While the actual player and face look new, some of the other parts like the navigation antenna and harness were warn. The user interface is painful. It'll take you a couple minutes to input an address. Options seem to disappear and reappear. Also, the navigation is difficult to install since you have to tie into speed sensors and reverse cables. The satellite and blue-tooth options are pricey.
Good:
The price on the refurbished unit is excellent. The sound quality is decent. The navigation screen is just big enough to actually use and works well. The Hard disc drive works phenomenally. Changing songs is instant. If you have a sports car like mine (S2000) and don't have space for a double din or CD storage, and absolutely must have navi, then this is definitely the unit for you.

Why did I wait so long to buy this?
My installer actually advised me to buy a refurbished unit because as he said, "anything that can go wrong has been repaired already". I have found this to be true. I saved hundreds and have had absolutely no problems with this unit.
If you're stuck with a car that will only allow for a single din unit, this is it. If you're like me and have an older car, the other options with the flip out screens might block a vent or hit your shifter. I've got an 1988 Porsche 911 and the addition of the technology to my car is great. The single din application has a nice clean look to it.
The screen is plenty big enough, even for a movie. This is the first GPS I've owned so I have nothing to compare it to. For a first timer like myself though, I found it pretty easy to get the hang of. I haven't entered a location yet that it didn't know.
The controls are easy to use and the radio and CD features are as good as you'd expect them to be. I removed my disc changer that was taking up precious trunk space with the notion of recording all my discs onto the MP3. This is nice in theory but would take way too long. Instead I just use it as a convenience. If I've got a disc in and I really like a certain song, I record it into the memory. Instead I recommend the ipod adapter which my installer put in the glove box. This is my favorite feature and it is easily controled right through the head unit.
Between the GPS and the infinite amount of music available with this unit, I enjoy my weekend drives more than ever.

Best single din radio ever made
I couldn't get a double din radio to fit into my car, but I wanted a radio with integrated gps, so I got this one. The fact that I can store all of the music that I have in my computer by copying the cd's is awesome. There are only two downsides to this radio. One is that the gps is slightly outdated, so new roads aren't there and the second one is that even though the radio reads the cd's name, when you record it it has no name, so you have to input every single name. With those two minor things, everything else is great and I would definitely buy this radio again.

Awesome Head Unit!
I love the fact that it has everything you'd want in a single unit. Yes the screen is small but in my pickup it more than big enough and doesn't block any vents. My kids even love the screen for DVDs. As a bonus, it has a great sound as well.

Advanced, impressive, awesome!
Easy to install if you do lots of homework first and find out where the VSS, Reverse, Parking brake wires are first. Really awesome machine!

Great Head Unit
This head unit is great! Install was fairly easy to just get the radio and music going. To get DVD playback and the navigation system working I would suggest taking it to a professional to do, unless you are a pro at installing audio equipment. You have to tap into your speed signal lead that goes to your speedometer which can be a pain in the butt to do. Other than that the controls on the head unit are very easy to use, the remote is awesome, and I'm finding more and more features everyday!
