Great product for the price....I have this installed in an '05 Altima....Been looking for the longest time trying to find something that would match my dash lights....this product has it all....the bluetooth feature is EXCELLENT!!! my calls come through my speakers which makes it sound as if the person is sitting right next to me....when asked if they can hear me clear....they answer yes as if Im holding the phone to my ear....the iPod feature is AWESOME...gives me the option to control the iPod through the unit itself or from the iPod...very fast connect speed and it charges while you listen...it also has the front Aux input for other portables...the 5V pre-amps have really improved the SQ of my Kicker components and Kicker 6x9's.......I have them running off a RF P400-4.......way better than the 1.5V that came from my Sony HU.....Overall I am very pleased with this product...I would recommend it to anyone looking for bluetooth, something that'll match your dash lights, iPod features and overall SQ

JVC KD-R900

I'm an avid audiophile and music lover and have been on the search for a natural sounding head unit for my car. Along the years I tried many Pioneer , Sony and Alpine head units. While they were good enough they are no match for the JVC. The difference is not night and day but the JVC unit has the very obvious edge of being very smooth, detailed and natural sounding than all. When I was recently shopping at SE for a new experience I stumbled on the JVC and was actually a bit hesitant to buy it. I eventually did and have no regrets whatsoever. I've also recommended it to 2 of my friends and they were both equally pleased with what they heard.

The unit locks excellently with many mobile phones I tried with it through Bluetooth, has been sonically and operatively very consistent.

Highly recommended if you're looking to approach an audiophile sound similar to what you get from a high quality/high end home audio source.

I'm a regular customer at Sonic Electronix and have been very well served at all times. I will never shop anywhere else except maybe if I was looking for an item they didn't have.

Great sound but microphone sucks

I purchased this product with the specific need to answer phonecalls thru the unit. Connecting the unit was a snap with the supplied harness and it fit perfectly in my new Rav4 with the face adapter. The stereo comes with a microphone that plugs in to the back of the unit for answering hands free phone calls. Pretty sweet huh? Except one thing; the sound is unbearable for the person on the other phone. It sounds like I'm underwater and screeching into the phone. They can bearly understand and thing I say and usually hang up after a few seconds So the unit is basicly useless for what I purchased it for. The iPod controls ate fine for shuffle but don't try to search for a song if you have over a 1,000 albums like me. JVC customer support was useless. They told me it may have been wired incorrectly. I can't imagine how I could have plugged that microphone in wrong?! I rechecked the wiring a couple of times and even tried a new mic. Nope. It's the unit.

Almost awesome deck

I am a JVC fan, so this is my 2nd car deck that I bought from here already. This newer R900 deck has all the toys to play all day with, but recently is having trouble reading my USB key in the front and back of the available hook-ups. Sometimes takes 10min to read my music, when u turn the deck ON. Tried different USB key, same result.
I'll see if it gets any worse on a daily basis.
Other than that, its an awesome deck, worth every penny on what's out on the market today.

dual usb is a must

This is a great head unit with many features and 2 USB ports so you can use the bluetooth and connect other media (usb thumb drive, ipod, etc.) It also has a 3.5mm jack for any media device with a headphone jack. I have heard complaints about the lack of numbered buttons for radio stations, but I rarely listen the radio anymore so I like that there is not 6 or 10 numbered buttons cluttering the display. It can also change colors when the lights are turned on at night. Bright colors for good visibility in the day and soft colors at night. With all the custom color settings you can easily match your factory dash lighting. I would recommend this headunit to anyone who wants bluetooth and ipod capabilities.

Great audio quality, less then satisfactory display

I've had this unit in my 08 Subaru WRX STI for the past 5 months. The audio quality over the stock unit was amazing. I've been absolutely happy with it until today.

Pros:
Good audio quality, lots of features and less $$$ than other units with the same feature. User Eq gives plenty of control to fine tune the audio to my preference. Ability to set separate colors for daytime/night time use.

Cons:
BIG One..the display starts to fade when it gets hot out. It's only May and temps are 90 degrees here in AZ. I can't read the display when I get in my car because its washed out. As the display cools it gets better but even tint and cold A/C don't get the display back on my 20 minute drive home. Wish this unit had RDS to display FM station/song info.

Great Headunit !!!!

This head unit is just what I wanted. It has Bluetooth which works great with my iPhone. 2 USB outputs have an iPod on one or your flashdrive on the other. Variable color don't mess with it but good.

Extremely fast shipping. Thought it would get here on Tuesday night. NO. Got here a day earlier and in DAY-LIGHT. Maybe cause of the holidays but good shipping.

Sonicelectronix is the best.

Great value and great product

Works seamlessly with my Motorola Droid. Lots of different options for listening to music in my car: can plug in my iPod, can plug in my Droid (and can either play music thats stored on the Droid or stream music for one of my music apps like Slacker, Last.FM, or Pandora. Can also stream talk radio apps (like NPR's app). Incoming calls will pause or stop music and after call hangs up, will go back to music. I love it!

The design and usability of the interface could be better, but hey for the money this is a great player I highly recommend.

Fantastic!!!

I wanted a bluetooth stereo for use with my iPhone 3G that included hands free phone capabilities, music streaming and plug/play and charge ability with the iPhone and other music players.

I found this JVC KD-R900 offered the most flexibility, features & function with hi quality hardware components often found in much more expensive decks. I was seriously considering getting the Sony BT unit but it needed a special adapter for charging and I decided on this unit instead....and especially was advised so by a few people who were familiar with this JVC as being a great unit. I'm really happy that I did because it sounds just FANTASTIC and couldn't be happier!

You can stream your music thru the BT or plug it in via usb cable to charge and play/scroll menus (with no special adapters needed). If you stream music by BT you have limited control over the iPhone music from the JVC unit, but if does allow you full remote control via the USB port. This isn't a big detractor for me as if I really want that type of control I can just plug it in to one of the two offered USB ports. The Best features I like are the most excellent Burr-Brown 24bit DAC (digital to analog converters) which sound absolutely fantastic and the 5 volt Mos-Fet amplifier built in at 50 watts x4. I also really like the way you can use the supplied mic and talk hands free via bluetooth. The phone rings and the music fades out, and after your call is done the music fades back in. NICE!!!

I found that the radio features are well designed,(it is Digital Radio ready) so you can add XM or Sirus, the unit has no physical buttons on the face for presets. That could be a consideration if you really listen to a whole lot of radio. It has something like 17 presets available and they are accessible through a buttons, still pretty easy to use once you have your favorite stations set and saved.

Over all I'm very happy with this deck and recommend it highly. Many of the features and hardware upgrades this unit offers would cost 3 or 4X's as much in other decks and still may not rival it's design and flexibility.

Amazing product.

So, I got this unit because it was on sale and it has 5v preamp outs on the RCA's. I was told that by going from 2v to 5v will yield absolutely no change in the audio in my car. As it turns out they were wrong. My old unit would get distortion after 40 on the dial (max 62) and I had to crank my amps gain all the way up in order to get the power I wanted (at 40) and it still felt like the speakers could go more. Now that I have this unit, I cranked the dial to 50 (which is its max) and there was no distortion, the amps gain was at zero, and yet it was as loud as my older unit with 2v. So now, its slightly louder (can actually max the speakers) and higher quality thanks to the DAC's in this unit. Plus, the unit looks basic and the color can be changed to match my dash lights meaning it looks semi-stock. Not to mention that the unit is easy to use right out of the box and wasn't hard to learn at all. If you like this product, get it.

Pretty Good in all respects

Bought two of these, for the BT capability in two cars. First, the microphone is terrible, to much ambient noise. Second, the visible part of the screen, gets way to much glare during the day regardless of direct sun or not. The BT works well and you can clearly hear your caller, they just struggle to hear you. The stereo itself is great, I added Sirius and love it. For the $$ it has pluses and minuses, but over all better than average.

Great unit for a great price

First off, many people think that JVC is not a quality product, but I will tell you that they are wrong. I have been in the car audio game for many years, and for the price point, JVC radios are great values, and good equipment. My last radio I've had since 2001, and I just now replaced it with the KD-R900, and my old one still works at full capacity having been in 7 different vehicles, one being a company vehicle for three years on construction sites, with the door open 8 hours a day, and dust, rain and everything else. So if you doubt the quality of JVC, don't.

The negatives: As far as this unit goes, I have a few minor complaints. The screen does have a heavy glare factor, but after messing with the custom screem color for awhile, I was able to get it to where it is a lot easier to read during the day, but if the sun is on it, it doesn't help that much. The remote doesn't offer enough functionality. The fact that I have to hold the menu button down, and scroll to the audio, then scroll to the subwoofer control, is a hassle, especially since I listen to a lot of different music that have different bass levels, plus add in the glare trying to get to the right screen, you get my drift. I also have a hard time with using a non Ipod mp3 player in the sense that it doesn't always start playing where it left off, which is extremely annoying more than anything. I guess that's it for negatives.

The positives: the unit looks great. I don't use the internal amp, and the fact that I can turn off the power to the internal amp is nice. The 5v preouts at this price range is outstanding. The Burr-Brown DACs (Google it) give the sound a very nice clarity, and although a hassle to get to the settings, once you finally get the sound tweaked to where you like it, it is great. I have no problems with the Blue Tooth on a non Iphone, and it sounds good through the speakers, and after many phone calls made, every one tells me that I come through loud and clear. The best part about the rear USB input, is that you can plug the BT adaptor into it and then hide an accessible place, and keep the front one free for you to use with your Ipod or whatever other mp3 player you use. Also, going from an RF modulator on my old head unit to plugging my mp3 player to the USB input is a HUGE step up in the sound quality. And let me reiterate, 3 5V PREOUTS, a USB mic and adaptor in the box, for $199, you can't go wrong.

Great Product

I have been looking for awhile for a head unit to replace my factory unit. Very easy installation in my '04 Titan, sounds great. Only problem is with the display when the sun shines there is a glare on the display that makes it hard to read. Other than that great unit!!!!

Good Stuff!

Great value! Costs about $100 more in Canada.
Bluetooth and iPod control works great.
My only complaint is that it only has 1 remote wire, and that's only because I hate having my power antenna up all the time.

Awesome unit

This unit not only covers any color dash out there but it has 3 lines of text for Ipod, the head unit or the ipod can be used to scroll through music. internal amp can be shut off. The display can be made positive or negative (reversing the color scheme). Ipod connection is fast. Bluetooth works nice! clear as can be using my t-mobile dash. the face color changes when calls come in (this is user selectable). gold plated 5v outputs on a >$200 unit?, yeah this one has it.

The cons of this is the tiny remote control.. awesome unit! anyways..

The face of the unit feels solid and it is black pearl in the sunlight. the volume/adjustment knob is rubberized so it has comfort grip. Design is simple and uncluttered.

Decent Radio

Started out being a great radio but after a few months of ownership it now won't power up. Have to take it in to get repaired ....

Love it

Nice solid deck that does all I need. The microphone kinda sucks but I try not to use it for hands free that much. My android phone and tablet connect to it no problem and stream music. I am excited to get it hooked up to some amps and really tweak it.

Great product

I installed this in my mitsubishi mighty max pick up and love it. The bluetooth feature is awesome as I am on the phone all the time while driving.. easy to install the whole set up. The only complaint I had was the wiring adapter as well as the dash install kit were completely useless and unnecessary. I would recommend this product. Be advised to ensure you really need a wiring adapter or dash install kit before purchasing, but like I said... product is awesome.

Great for the money but overall would not recomend.

I have had this unit for about 4 months now and am satisfied but overall disappointed with this unit. A few key features sold me on this item. 1 was the blue tooth capability that i cant get to function properly( i don't own an i phone) on two different phones. Second i really like the idea of a color display but the screen is so small that the text is extremely hard to read in the sunlight. The performance of the unit is basically what im pleased with. The sound quality is great the 5v output was a big step up from the 2v in my previous JVC. The only add on i have purchased so far is the sirius box and i love it. I love the clean look of everything built into the head unit as opposed to an external add on unit. One thing i didn't like at first was the there is only one user setting. The other options are hip hop, rock and pop settings but they seem to work well and switching between them is surprisingly easy. Overall i am just getting by with this headunit i had higher hopes but feel that cheaper models are available with built in hd tuners if your willing to give up this small color screen that's hard to see, blue tooth i cant use and a second usb port on the back that i forget thats there. hope i was able to help
