Awesome Device!

This device has it all - GPS, perfect iPhone integration, amazing sound and other great features. It's pricey, but worth it if you want something top of the line.

Great product! Love the HD radio world news and business news update

Nice compact product with excellent features. Nav and radio work well. I would buy it again over other products at current time based on HD radio, nav, and HD news and traffic updates. I only wish they committed to free lifetime MAP updates like TOM TOM.

Pros:
1. Bluetooth capability with easy set-up. Can elect to use hands free or not.
2. Rapid boot-up with quick viewing of rear-view camera.
3. Multiple nav viewing options, with good voice directions. Can search based on phone numbers. Nice well visible screen. Buttons sometimes a bit finicky on the touch screen, and just takes some getting used to.
4. Lifetime subscription to HD traffic updates, News, and Weather channels. Easy ability to scan business, world news, and local weather. I really like this feature and find it more useful to me than iPod tune scanning, but this will vary with users.
5. Ability to upgrade firmware with > or = 128 MB SD (SDHC) card.
6. Can add Google POI onto maps using an SD card.
7. Easily detachable faceplate for high theft areas.
8. Has a single USB connector in front.

Cons:
1. Bluetooth only connects to one device at a time, so you need to select which one you use.
2. Route navigation does not present with multiple options immediately after a search, such as shortest, fastest, etc. once a destination is selected. The options must be pre-selected prior to destination entry. This should be considered in future products in my opinion.
3. In order to swap SD Card the face plate mus be detached.
4. Would be nice to put jpeg images on the SD card as "wallpaper", and be able to listen to radio while images play, bu this is a minor complaint. FAQ notes images should be playable from jpegs, but I could not get this to work following a recent firmware upgrade.

NT3 Integrated system

Nice integrated unit, the features are about a 3 or 4 on a scale of 1 to 5 based on buying each function by itself. Nice video system integration, great digital/hd radio solution, and love the bluetooth connectivety options, however Apple devices don't work well unless they are cable attached, probably an issue with Apples proprietary OS and APIs. However any one elses MP3 player with bluetooth appears to be controlled completely without cables.
As for nav system, I will probably continue to have to carry a real system with me. The maps have some nice functions to them, but because of someones greedy need someplace, you will have to pay $160 with tax and shipping annually to maintain accurate maps in any large city area. to pay 20% of the unit price annually to keep roads up to date is rediculous, so I will keep my Garmin in the glove box with it's lifetime quartely map updates, since I wasn't planning on putting out the expense to buy a new GPS every year which is what JVC wants you to do.
At the end of the day, it's a nice unit, but it does a really bad job of helping to incorporate your GPS function especially due to the gross margin JVC requires to maintain current maps.

Improves my driving experience!

I really enjoy this head unit. I like the fact that the Navigation and Bluetooth are built in unlike other units with require add on's. The bluetooth works with the iPod touch and cell phones. Your whole contact list will appear on your head unit. Although the iPod when linked via bluetooth will not display your music library or track being played. Using the USB plug in will solve this though. The SIRIUS Satellite Radio is also a great feature but you have to purchase the JVC KSS-RA100 + SIRIUS SC-C1 separately in order for it to work. What sold me on this unit was the detachable face. Wouldn't wont anybody breaking in my car because they want my stereo. The dvd is also a great feature but you can't be played while driving. But this can be bypassed by grounding a wire. You can't beat Sonic Electronix prices anywhere on the web!!! Honestly I don't know how these guys stay in business.

JVC NAV / DVD unit exceeds expectations

I have been enjoying this JVC Navigation unit with XM Radio and backup camera options for about a month now. I had it professionally installed in my 2011 Honda Civic GX. It is light years ahead of the NAV unit in my 2006 Honda with far more capability, a better screen, and easier to navigate menus.

The ability to interface with multiple Audio/Video sources is terrific. There are some, such as video input, I haven't even used. I did attach an XM Radio using a JVC-specific adapter, along with a backup camera and sub-woofer. One feature which was almost an afterthought for me is the programmable entry/exit greeting. It's quite amusing to have your car tell you, "You look great today!" or something like that when you start the car up in the morning. My kids and I have had fun with that one.

I appreciate the settings which allow you to calibrate the unit for the various input sources so the volume level is the same when switching between say, the CD and the iPod, or between the HD Radio and the XM Radio. The controls also give the user remote control over the subwoofer, assuming it is installed using the low level RCA connector cable.

My installer was able to set up the NAV unit so it can be programmed by the passenger during transit. I did not need an accessory as I had originally thought. This also means the DVD player can be used while driving, but of course that's completely illegal and unsafe, so be careful.

The only installation problem involved the XM radio accessory. The XM Radio presets would erase each time the car was turned off. I called JVC tech support and quickly received feedback to have the installer attach the XM Radio to a power source not connected through the ignition switch. This solved the problem. So, JVC tech support was quick and helpful, at least for that simple problem.

My only nit pick is the volume control knob should be knurled or textured instead of smooth. My vehicle lacks a steering wheel mounted volume control, so I use the one on the unit face exclusively. It's just a little too slippery for my fingers.

No map updates

I bought this back in 2010. I've been quite happy with it, but the maps are VERY old. It hasn't been a big issue until recently a major highway in my area changed dramatically. The entire traffic pattern has changes and the GPS tells you to take routes that don't exist and has no idea where routes that do exist go.

It interfaces with my Blackberry just fine, but it often loses the song information when streaming audio. It will continue to say it was the song I started playing even though 10 songs have played since.

New map package is $139. Rather steep considering the $800 price tag. I regret this purchase and don't think I'd buy JVC again.

Can't go wrong with this one

I was in the market for a new up to date head unit with navigation, DVD and IPOD connection. I bought this unit and got soooo much more! I was surprised at how great the navigation system worked. I entered a location and went the wrong way on purpose to see how it long it took to redirect me. the system made my travel adjust ment so smooth I thought I had actually went the right way! After that I wanted to check out the DVD function. I grabbed a DVD out of my armrest and put put in in the unit. I was pleasently surprised twice! I had discovered the quality of the DVD player and found my favorite adult movie at the same time. WOW what a day. trust me when I tell you the detail was excellent. Next I connected the IPOD using the bluetooth connection. I think that has to be the coolest s**t ever. standing next to you car not only controling the tracks and the albums but the volume as well. My subs were even sounding better as I turned up the volume and set off my neighbors car alarm. There are a few additional things like the free HD radio anad free traffic tuner that provide your with news, sports, and weather that keep me up to date with what going on when I can't catch the news or ESPN. I thought the USB connection in the front was going to be an eye sore but, it's not that bad. If you plug up your cell phone to charge it then you look at that cord all the time and probably pay it no mind. The same is true with the USB cord. Trust me its not a deal breaker! This is over all a well thought out unit and I would buy it again.

The only thing that I think should have been added was more graphics like the scroll feature on the IPHONE and screen saver type wallpaper. Something more to look at while your IPHONE or IPOD is playing music.

Incredible value

Compare this units features to some of the most expensive, and you'll find that there really is no comparison at all. i've looked at just about every other brand i could find and not one single unit had all the features that this jvc does..... Pioneer, alpine, sony not one of them. and in some cases you could not even add some features to theirs, not to mention it would cost you nearly twice as much if not more. The only complaint that i have is that there is no scan feature on the radio, aside from that i love it. look closely at all your options and you just might buy it.
