Nice head unit.

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

This is a clean and sleek looking head unit. It boosted my factory speakers and sounds really good. The bluetooth sounds good and I like the fact that the bluetooth button lights up as a different color than the other bottons. I put the bluetooth mic right on top of my steering column where it is out of sight and was easy to run into the dash. The unit is light and easy to install depending on vehicle. I put mine in a 04 Mazda Tribute and it was impossible to remove the radio so I had to take apart part of the dash to remove it. The unit looks good, sounds great, has plenty of cool options, and a very nice little remote. The unit is made well and the buttons and knob feel like they are of good quality. The only thing that bugs me is that the display is hard to see on sunny days. Other than that I am very happy with the stereo! Delivery was very fast to El Paso, TX and the price was a lot better than local dealers so thank you Sonic Electronix!

Great choice, better value!

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

This radio is definitely what you would be looking for if you are looking for some nice features like Bluetooth connectivity, Equalization, native app support, and 3 sets of rca preamped outputs for all your sub support or other tech that needs connections. Would also make a good radio to put in a car for beginners, very simple setup and installation.

Overall, a great product for amazing value.

Great buy for the money

I love the radio. Installed easily. Works great. Read mixed reviews on line but for me this is a perfect upgrade from my factory installed radio that came with the car 13 years ago.

Good value

The following review is for a previous version (DPX501BT).

Overall this is a quality head unit for those who do not want or need the fancy touch screens. It has enough pre-outs to allow for some versatile setups and a good selection of features to keep most people happy.

The only real downsides I have discovered are the over-simplified equalizer (which is to be expected) and the difficulty viewing the screen during the daytime with a majority of the color options available.

Great Radio for the price

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

I would definitely buy this radio again. It was pretty easy to install and the brackets from my original Toyota radio bolted right to the side of the new radio and it lined it up perfectly. The only challenge came in installing the microphone for the Bluetooth phone. I wanted it above the rearview mirror near the center of the windshield so I had to remove the pillar cover and feed the wires down through the dash. The wire did not want to stay tucked into the headliner. I wrapped tape around the wire in a few places to make it thicker so that when I tucked it into the headliner it stayed up. Now it works great. The manual that comes with the radio is just a quick installation guide. To get the full manual I went to the Kenwood website and download the manual. I printed it off in booklet form so I could easily refer to it. It was something like 148 pages long. I printed it two sided and two pages per page of paper and it still came out 3/8" thick when folded in half, but it was worth it to get all of the information because not all of the controls are intuitive and the book really helps.

Love the bluetooth

The following review is for a previous version (DPX501BT).

I did a lot of research before I bought a radio for my car, this was the best bang for the buck I could find. I love the large volume knob, it's just the right size to always be within reach. I especially love the Bluetooth, and the microphone works great, though it does need to be set up in the settings or the other person won't hardly hear or understand. Overall, great radio, goes REALLY loud, and almost no distortion from it

quality unit

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

Quality headunit

pros-
great amount of eq options and the unit is very easy to use.
looks good
good rms power handling for someone that isnt amplifying their spits
trim piece in box fit perfectly in a toyota hilux using factory brackets and factory mount.

cons-
not sure if its just me but with my iphone on bluetooth, it isnt sending a signal to my sub amp, so if i want bass i have to use aux or ipod input, not bluetooth.
no rear usb port or rem+ wire (you will have to solder and heatshrink)
cant read the screen on a sunny day (dont have window tint)

Conclusion-
Although there are some design flaws/ things i would like, you will not get the huge amounts of features on any other product in the same price range
10/10 would reccomend

Awesome!

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

Just installed the Kenwood DPX500BT in a 2004 Toyota Tundra. It fit perfectly with no need for a dash kit, just used my factory mounts. I will say the trim piece that comes with it seems a little flimsy but its still nice since I believe its actually made to fit a Toyota double din hole. Wiring was easy even with the added Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control which also works great. It really made my shitty factory speakers sound a lot better but I will still be adding door speakers and a sub in the future. The controls are fairly easy to use after you get used to how they work. Bluetooth also works great! Overall a great stereo. This was my first experience with Sonic Electronix and it was awesome. Free shipping and great price! I would definitely recommend Sonic as well as this stereo.

Pros: Kenwood quality, expandability for XMSirius, Pandora, etc. Bluetooth and 3 amp preouts. Also the nicest looking double din out there.

Cons: Trim piece a little flimsy (be careful when attaching to stereo). Also, like other reviews have mentioned the screen is a little hard to see sometimes in direct sunlight.

Great Product Great Sound !

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

This is a great stereo. Features are awesome. The Bluetooth worked right away and is very clear voice transmit. Sonic did a great and fast shipment of this item. Make sure your have the confidence and patience to correctly install this stereo. Wire attachment is required and color coded which helped allot in the hook up of it. The sound and look of it in my 2005 Equinox is great.
Sonic technicians were great when placing the order. I highly recommend Sonic for your purchase.

Great Sound and Great Fit in a 2007 Nissan Frontier (non-Fosgate)

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

First, I was concerned about the technical difficulty of the installation but it was actually quite easy. I used some ground-down tongue depressors and popsicle sticks to release the dash clips. Search on-line for videos. I used the Scosche NN03B Wiring Harness and the Metra 99-7581 Dash Kit. An Antenna Adapter was not required. Wired the Illumination wiring on the stereo to the factory wire controlling the parking lights, not the variable dimmer wire. Dimming works as expected when the headlight are turned on.

The Metra Dash kit is primarily for single DIN radios so most of it is wasted. They do provide one essential double DIN trim piece that mounts easily on the inside of the dash and frames out the stereo very well. It is only piece of the kit that was used. I am very, very pleased with fit, look and finish of the installation.

From an operations perspective, it sounds really good. The initial setup was straightforward but a lot to absorb in one sitting. The Key color selections match the orange Frontier dash lighting quite well. I chose blue for the text display colors - looks great.

I updated the firmware for the stereo after the setup, which was a mistake as it reset some of my user preferences - so update the firmware first.

Bluetooth phoning is OK - I mounted the mic above the rear view mirror - seems to work OK - time will tell. It pairs easily with my Samsung S3. I don't stream audio via Bluetooth but rather use a very small flash drive in the USB port, which is really handy and sounds great.

Overall, I couldn't be happier. BTW, I'm 65 years old, so you young guys will have no problems. Take your time - enjoy the process. It was fun.

This head unit is sick.

You have the option of choosing a solid color or having it change colors.

I always get compliments on my head unit.

It has USB & AUX outputs.

Volume Offset option, which if you use auxiliary, it increases the overall volume 10x.

Beautiful and amazing Head Unit

The following review is for a previous version (DPX308U).

When I needed to replace my stereo in my 1990 Lexus LS 400, I did hours of research. I thought about getting a Pioneeer, as I am a fan of their head units. However, I found this double din Kenwood, and figured it would look great in my car. Turns out the product is better than I could have imagined. Options and customizations to keep you busy for hours. My stock speakers of 22 years sing with this Kenwood pushing them. I would recommend this stereo over any others out there. If youre not a fan of touch screen units and want to spend under $200, consider this fine stereo. You will not regret your purchase, I can promise that.

Replaced factory AM/FM in my Chevy express with this unit . Factory speakers and sound is great. BT with RAZOR HD is very good. same quality as OEM BT. Has many features, I liked the ability to turn them off ( AHA, Pandora, Etc) as I don't use them. Display can show incoming caller ID and can answer and hang up from stereo. XM Add on is easy to use and the remote works well. ( I find it useless )

Average

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

SO, i have reviewed this product from my account so it wont let me change it or re-review it, however after playing around with this headunit i must say the tuning setting are really good and the output is great, however on the higher end it starts to distort my coax speakers, and i won't be using the pandora aha or iheart as the apps are flimsy and theyre not really available in canada the sirius xm is available but the HU doesnt come with that accesory so i guess u have to buy it separately and hook it up or probably my install guy didnt do that, besides that the front aux and usb works like it should nothing spectacular, the bluetooth is where i dont like it, if i play music via bluetooth the quality is not good and it doesn't put out any bass notes.. only highs and mids, the handsfree calling feature is great and i guess thats basically what its meant to be used for so when i disconnect bluetooth the HF disconnect message just doesnt go away unless i restart the vehicle, the color illumination is good but during the day only certain colors can be seen so!! not super useful ive left it at plain white color. install is fairly easy everything is straight forward and marked. comes with all the install kits and accesories you will need. will i buy it again, no i wil buy something more expensive and something with more option and touch screen and blah blah. but for someone on a budget this is perfect.

Nice multiple vehicle trim plate options

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

Had a factory gm/delco unit face finally finish burning out, looked at several units and went with the kenwood due to features. Keep in mind the gm unit is only a 1.5 din so I knew some creative modification was needed that is when the multiple face plate trims helped, I used the (Toyota) trim and enlarged the dash bezel for it. The harness matches the color codes of all oem adapters like scoshe gmda, the instruction manual is a quick guide only did have to go online for details. Overall very pleased with unit and prompt service from sonic. FYI if replacing a factory 1.5 din don't waste time and money on dash kits.

Wow.

The following review is for a previous version (DPX308U).

It not only makes your system/stock & speakers/whatever you have sound better: it makes it look better. I kind of gives off a matt black finish in the picture, but the reality is it's a very glossy look. If you have a black dash in your car it makes it ten times better.

It has a USB and AUX option. If you use an iPod/iPhone through a USB, the quality is amazing. The only thing I don't like about this deck is that if you use an AUX cable, it doesn't sound great at all. Just my opinion.

Overall, if you're looking for a flashy deck for a low price then this is the perfect deck for you. (It shipped extremely fast, too. Thanks Sonic!)

Very Good Radio

The following review is for a previous version (DPX308U).

I purchased this unit because I wanted to have a CD Player with Aux and USB ports in my 2012 F-150, but I did not want anything that would look drastically different from the AM/FM tuner that was already in it.
This was the nicest looking one that I could find, so I bought it.
I am very impressed with this unit, it gets decent reception, the sound quality is very good, and it looks even better than I was hoping for. In fact some people have thought that it was the factory sound system. I would definitely make this purchase again for my pickup.

Epic

The following review is for a previous version (DPX501BT).

I've been out of the car audio scene for a while & decided to do a budget build in my '03 xCab Tacoma. I'm doing it in stages. I paired this head unit with some NVX 5.25 separates (which take a bit of patience to install in this truck - especially with no speaker adapters) and Quart Onyx 5x7 coax. That said, the Quarts are right next to me and not in the truck yet...so I'll need to update this once I get 'em in. A sub is coming next. And at the moment it's needed badly.

Anyhoo, this is a review of the head unit. I'm having a hard time finding anything I don't like about it. I needed expanded functionality, and I got that many times over. I bought 2 stubby 32 gig USB sticks to have plenty of music for driving. The unit has no problem playing or surfing the folders. Bluetooth functionality with my HTC EVO 3D is comprehensive even though I'd read these 2 might not work well together. I can even access my phonebook from the head unit & make calls through voice commands. Sub out is nice. Menu feature set is rich. Power seems to be a true 22W RMS - purely seat of pants feel. I don't think I'm going to bother with an amp when I add a sub. The head unit provides plenty of power for an xcab - especially when not asking it to provide for more than modest midbass.

The remote is well-designed, but the lag (~1 sec) to the head unit will limit its use. Maybe a future firmware fix will help?

I haven't used the mic yet, but it's going into place tomorrow.

For the money, this is simply an epic deal. There's a learning curve to the unit, and it's probably better experienced when parked, but when mastered it's a delight to use. I'll update a bit later as again I have some additions yet to install. But as of right now, expense considered, I'd give this one a solid 7 out of 5!

Good unit

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

The unit looks good and feels well made. The buttons are a tiny bit small but once you get use to it, it is easy to use. The settings menu is very extensive and can be a bit tricky to use, but it has a lot of great settings. The bluetooth pairing for iPhones is great! Just plug it in and push the center knob. Sound quality is great as well, it did make my stock speakers sound a little bit better (prior deck did have a separate amp so it had good quality to begin with).

My only complaint about it, is how it handles power antennas. It keep the antenna up regardless of what input you are using. I wish kenwood would have taken a little bit of time to tell the antenna to go down when not in use.

For the price you can't do any better! Very happy with the unit.

It's not a Party without Loud Music and Flashing Lights!

The following review is for a previous version (DPX308U).

At first I was going to go with a flip out DVD player head unit, but how often would you really use it and have a chance to show it off? This Kenwood unit really sets a mood with the color changing lights... which makes it perfect for picking up chicks ;] Very rarely will somebody hop into your ride without mentioning it. When you first turn your car on all the colors on the unit flash and then they slowly fade into one another.

I installed this in my 1998 Buick Regal the other day and it fit perfectly (didn't even need the mounting kit), looks as if it were stock. This Stereo system had my blown out stock speakers bumpin like no other! Can't imagine what it will sound like with new Rocksford speakers! Need more bass? Just press the Bass Boost button. You can also go through the audio settings and change the bass, treble, mid, high and low levels....and like 10 other things (it's over my head though).

With the AUX cord you can control what you play from your Phone/Ipod, but it won't charge it. While the USB will charge your Phone but you can only access the songs through the system music search, the playlists are the files on your phone and not the playlists on your phone music player. I'm not sure if this is the same for an Ipod because I don't have one.

Overall, if you're trying to Pimp your Ride but don't have Xzibit to help you out, this is the first step. This Kenwood system blows out competition with both style and sound quality!

great product, hard to set up.

The following review is for a previous version (DPX308U).

I love this stereo. It is great for those looking to replace their stock radio with an affordable double din sized, non-touch screen stereo. The sound difference even with my stock speakers was night and day. I had no idea what my car speakers were capable of.

The one con about it is that it was very frustrating to make it work with my subwoofer. I spent hours playing with it and poking around online to get it to work right. I finally came across something on a car audio forum. You have to change the setting from rear speaker output to subwoofer output from a menu that can only be accessed in standby mode. The included manual makes no mention of this.

Other than that, it is an excellent product and the colored illumination looks great at night.

My daughter wanted to replace her radio in her 2002 Mazda Protégé. This one proved to be an excellent choice. Great features and provided excellent sound. The Bluetooth works well and was easy to pair the phone. My daughter loves it.
Only thing I would suggest is that they include the keys needed to remove the original radio in the kit.

Android users beware, otherwise perfect!

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

The only negative thing I have to say about my new Kenwood stereo is that after buying an android compatible stereo, neither my android phone nor my android tablet work in the USB plug. After purchasing a few extra parts from the hardware store (aside from the installation kit), a friend of mine was able to install it himself with no issues. I love the way it looks in my Expedition and I love the way it sounds. I had plans to Install an Alpine power pack amp and speakers as well but honestly, after hearing the sound quality with the stock speakers and the new stereo I am in no rush to buy the amp and speakers. The only reason I might still buy them is to get a better base sound out of the stereo. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and the customer service from Sonic

This replaced a unit in a 4Runner. It works very well, easy install. The sound quality is better then the OEM unit that even had a separate little amp. Bluetooth works well. I did have to fix how I ran the bluetooth mic input, I was getting a little bit of interference, but it was an easy fix.

Pros: Sound Quality, cost, bluetooth, decent phone integration
Cons: Bluetooth Music only plays on the front speakers, menu and buttons not 100% intuitive, but still very good.

Very Good unit, But..

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

Owners manual is short & poor, lacks much details of operation settings & set up, the web page is the same brief. So what is the only option call and ask my list of "what is this"? Overall it's a good unit and preforms well and I would recommend to others.

Excellent Deck

The following review is for a previous version (DPX501BT).

I replaced the factory radio from a Mustang with the Shaker 500, with this unit man what a difference. The sound is 100 times better. I had to do a lot of research on how to install this deck in my Mustang since the Shaker has two amps and teo factory subwoofers. You will need a 1.5K resistor from radio shack 5 for $3.00. you have to connect it to the ant remote otherwise every time your deck turns on it makes a popping noise. this resistor took care of that. Everything works perfect and it look great. The sound is amazing compared to the OEM.. I always buy Kenwood. I highly recommend this unit if you are looking for a great double din deck. I paid $10.00 more then, now it is $10.00 less. If yuo have a 2006 Mustang GT with the Shaker 500 you dont need the antenna adaptor.

Great Sound

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

Radio sounds incredible and works perfectly. Integrated well and auto programmed with the ASWC-1 with no headaches. Can't wait to finish my set up and have my subs hooked up and see what what results I get.

Careful with the screen on this. The display is housed in cheap plastic that scratches so easily. With basically no pressure at all, it can damage the liquid inside the LCD and distort it. That aside - it's a solid unit and would recommend it.

Kenwood DPX500bt

The following review is for a previous version (DPX500BT).

Had a year old DPX308, was pleased with it but found myself wanting BT. On my other car I have a pioneer I really like, decided to go for a FH-X700BT, a radio with very positive reviews. Really disliked that HU, super plane Jane looks, boring, ugly with mediocre sound and a problem freezing and giving error messages. Sent that Pioneer back to Sonic(thank you) and got the kenwood DPX500BT. Install was simple, adjustments were very intuitive, easy to setup. The sound is far better than on the 308, it just a far superior HU in so many respects. The new 500 is a very goon looking HU but the 308 is better looking day or night. All said, I am very happy with my new HU, sound is very stout, crisp and clear. Thanks Sonic, thanks Kenwood.

I've had it almost a year now

The following review is for a previous version (DPX501BT).

My old Lexus stereo died. They wanted almost $600 for a factory replacement that did not have bluetooth, or could read mp3 encoded disks. Not doing it. Found this unit and like it because it had a large volume knob, easy to reach buttons and a relatively simple interface.
Had it almost a year and I have no complaints. It can get loud. I think for the price it was a very good unit. It easily fit in my double din space where the old stereo came from and only cost about 1/4 of what Lexus wanted.
I like the dark face when it is off, because it doesn't seem to attract a lot of unwanted attention. Oh you have to speak loud for someone to hear you on the microphone.

Good Bang for the Buck

The following review is for a previous version (DPX501BT).

I found this Kenwood to have very good sound with my stock speakers. It has all the features you could ask for in a car stereo and looks great too.
The display is tough to read in the sunlight, and switching sound sources is a little tedious since you have to cycle through them.
The wireless mic needs to have the sensitivity turned up so you can be heard on a phone call. I also found that if you use the auto time sync, the clock is an hour fast, so I just set it manually.
Overall, you can't beat the features you get for the price; I would buy another without hesitation.

New Installer

This is a good starter stereo for people who want their car to have a bluetooth-enabled stereo. I bought this and installed in my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. I have installed slot machines (job) and I build my own computers so why not a car stereo. Easy than both the slot machine and computer combined. Hardest part was fitting all the wires in cramped space.

It's a Kenwood

The following review is for a previous version (DPX502BT).

Kenwood DPX502BT

Reviewer: fstroupe

Time owned: 1 week

Experience level: I have been installing stereos in vehicles since the only choice you had was under-dash 8-Tracks and "wedge-mount" speakers.

Music Genre: Classic Rock, Jazz (the real stuff), Classical

Vehicle: 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab

Stereo system:
-two generic 600-watt stereo amps
-pair Pioneer 6.75" round speakers (front)
-pair Pioneer 4"x6" speakers (rear)
-pair Pioneer 10" subwoofers
-downthrow under-rear seat 2x10" sub cabinet

Dash kit: Scosche GMT2049A (purchased elsewhere)

This stereo replaced an aging Jensen BM9212 single-DIN 7" touchscreen DVD player. There was nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't have bluetooth, and I do 99% of my listening from my phone, from my music library, Pandora, and IHeart Radio. I needed an upgrade.

I chose this stereo because 1) stereo sub RCA jacks (my amp is not bridgeable), 2) I really wanted a double-DIN stereo, and 3) I have wanted a Kenwood for years and decided that I would finally get one.

As far as installation, yes, you will have to remove part of the plastic bracket inside of the dash. And DO NOT purchase a Scoshe GMT 2049A to install a double-DIN stereo in a 2003-2007 GM pickup. Scoshe has other models that will work better. I basically used the parts from the kit to Jerry-rig my own installation parts. What should have been a 1-hour simple installation turned into a 3-hour frustrating PITA.

Just to note, the threaded holes in the side of the stereo are #8-32. I used six 1/2" screws with flat washers and lock washers in the installation.

I downloaded and installed the KENWOOD Smartphone Control app on my Galaxy 5S, but to be honest I don't think I needed it. I haven't uninstalled it to see, but planning to.

The DPX502BT and the phone quickly paired. As is my personal mandatory custom for any stereo equipment I purchase, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" was the first music played on the stereo.

I was totally blown away by the sound quality of the DPX502BT. As I mentioned above, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Jensen, which is actually a higher-end product, a modern replacement costs three times as much as the Kenwood. My wife walked out a few minutes later and immediately noticed the much "richer" sound.

Each time I left the vehicle and returned, the Galaxy and Kenwood immediately paired. All I had to do was press "play". Both the stereo and the remote are easy to understand and use if you have ever used an aftermarket stereo, and if you haven't, there isn't much of a learning curve.

I will admit that I have done very little experimentation with the stereo and my wife's Iphone 6S Plus, as I can't stand Iphones (or other Apple products for that matter). What time I did spend, I was forced to turn off the Bluetooth on the phone and turn it back on to re-pair the two after leaving the vehicle. I AM IN NO WAY SAYING THAT THE DPX502BT WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY PAIR WITH AN Iphone!!! I am merely saying that I spent little time trying. Other reviewers here claim they work together fine, and I'm sure they do.

I gave five stars under "durability, but of course having owned the product for a week I have no idea. It did not fall apart while I was installing it.

Bottom line, I am extremely pleased with the Kenwood DPX502BT.

Nice unit.

The following review is for a previous version (DPX502BT).

I have a 1997 s10 truck. The stock radio is close to a double din size radio. Sonic told me,yes it fits right in.
And dont need a filler / trim
kit. Wrong! U will need a radio block off panel. An then cut the center portion out to fit the new radio. This will cover the sides of the new radio. The old radio is wider.also you will have to cut the rear of the dash
Out, if you don't want the new radio sticking out of the 1 1/2
Inches.
And no mounting hardware included. But the radio is great!

Replaced the factory GM unit to n my Trailblazer. Wanted USB and Bluetooth for my IPhone and music. The display can be hard to read during the day. The only color that that works for me is the aqua blue. I am in my sixties so the programming is a little tedious for someone who grew up with a slide rule. Not very intuitive. Rasio works well and will pull,in stations the factory would not. I have had it almost a year and am replacing the factory speakers with component units and a Kenwood amp.

Kenwood DPX502BT

The following review is for a previous version (DPX502BT).

I really enjoy this deck. It takes a bit to get use to it but once you figure out how to navigate the menu, it isn't difficult. The deck produces very good sound (music and hands free phone) and looks great in the dash.

Speaking of the dash, I did have to cut my dash and rear radio bracket to allow this to fit in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. It wasn't hard to do with a dremel, but just be aware that it is needed for a proper fit.

Pros:
-Great sounding hands-free phone calling.
-Good amount of power just using the deck.
-EQ. Or should I say multiple. Not only does it have a 13 band EQ, it has a ton of other options that I didn't need (Three settings of loudness, three settings of bass boost along with other settings).
-Three pre-amp outputs for those like me that want to add amps.

"Cons"
-Can be difficult to see the display during the day. Found out its the polarized sunglasses. W/O them, display reads fine. I have green as my color display.
-Miss having a super easy mute button like my old JVC.
-I have reset the clock twice since I've had it. First time it was 10 minutes off, today it was an hour.

Overall, I would recommend and buy again.

It's easy to use, makes your music sound way better than other radios! Has built in sub controls! Beautiful radio, by far the best radio I have ever owned
