A good idea, BUT....

This unit uses the Audiovox mini receiver. Kewl idea but few other products have jumped on the band wagon to make the little brick's portability really useful. On the plus side, it works almost as advertized (1 major nag); on the negative side I have many yet perhaps petty criticizms:
PRO's:
works ok
CON's:
**Major beef with this item --> antenna gain is Poor. I'm not going to sully my installation by exposing a globbed-on antenna on my dash or much less onto my roof! I am going to put it under a piece of plastic that hides it. I mounted mine under my dash. This works very well for the GPS, but terribly for XM. My wife's car has a similar unit with the Garmin GXM-30 antenna mounted beneath the plastic trim covering the shelf space between the back seat and rear glass. The GXM has MUCH greater gain and works MUCH better as an XM receiver. The reason I didn't get that antenna is because a) it's very expensive, b) I didn't need its NAVTraffic functionality, but mostly c) I didn't think the "normal" antenna would be so inadequate at the time. The unit should include a much stronger antenna for professional installations.
**The promise of being able to remove the brick and use it in other devices leads one to mount this sizeable unit in a spot that has ready access. Reality is that I haven't found anything else I would want to own which uses this Audiovox brick, the whole unit is a bit large, I've never removed the brick, so I wish I had mounted it well tucked away.
