Good product

This is a good entry level head unit. The sound quality is everything you'd expect from a kenwood product. It's good for someone who wants a simple head unit without all the bells and whistles.

good inexpensive upgrade

Like the title, its good inexpensive upgrade over a stock stereo. like the subwoofer control and the aux input is always great feature.

Perfect for basic necessities!

I bought this to install in my old '85 Jeep CJ-7, and my biggest draw was simple and that I could plug my iPod into into it. It works like a charm and I've attached two Kicker 08KS5250 in the front and two MTX (same size) in the back, and as loud as the road noise and engine are in my Jeep I can still hear my music quite clearly! Very satisfied overall with the head unit and system altogether.

Great Stereo

Installed the Kenwood into my alero. The sound quality is great and clean. Controls for non subwoofer use are easy to use. Subwoofer settings is kinda hidden but read the manual and you will figure it out. I have a MA Audio 15in Subwoofer I ran off of this head unit and it sounded great. I have had this head unit for 2 years but recently it seems that water or snow melted and fell through the vent holes on the top of the unit and destroyed its filter. Now I hear some strange engine noises in the speakers. Other then that I have never had any issues.
I recommend this unit to anyone. Its cheap, sounds great, good features, and operates well with subwoofers. Sonic Electronix also ships fast and has great prices.

Kenwood deck

I really like this deck, the only problem is to get to the settings you really have to read the manual; because a lot of the categories you use to control the bass and treble for example are controlled by only two buttons but you have to push four buttons to get to then. Other than that it is a fantastic deck

Good sound.

Great sound for the money. Good tuner. Skip free CD playback. Only drawback is that the buttons are small and the lettering is hard to read from a normal seating position. Once you learn the functions of each, not much of a problem, but I occasionally hit the wrong button. Clock display is also small but pretty easy to read.

Great Price Great Product

this is a great inexpensive kenwood cd player,mp3 player. For the price you cant go wrong. Sonic Electronix is one of the best if not the best place to get your electronic items for less.

So-So purchase

The Kenwood KDC-138 is a good CD player if youre looking for something quick and non expensive. It works well, but the quality of the face isn't very modern looking. It takes a while for the sound to come if you change the source (i.e changing from a CD to radio--takes several seconds before it plays the radio). But other than that it is a good quality CD player, afterall it is a Kenwood.

Awesome Stereo

Let me first say that I have only ever had 1 other after market CD player in a car, so my review needs to be taken with a grain of salt. That said, I love this deck. Its tough to find a deck for less than $80 that plays a cd with burned mp3's on it. This deck also lets you customize highs, mids and lows, something else I liked. I liked it so much I bought a 2nd for my wifes car. I have only had them a few months but so far, no problems with either deck.

Nice deck

I bought this stereo to replace my factory stereo & as for as sound quality goes, this stereo is great. I bought it from Best Buy for $100. It does not have a sub control but has all the other features. I use my iPod mainly through the aux cable. Overall good stereo especially for replacing the stock.

kenwood kdc 138

heard alot of good things about kenwood so id figure i would give it a try but i was not impressed at all

cheap price, worked ok for a week then the cd player decided to crap out on me and now will not play any cds what so ever, even a store bought brand new one right out of the package.

also cuts off music after you turn it up past a certain volume, (28 on my stereo specifically), dont know if it is an error or whether or not this is because it cant go over the power its putting out. but its highly annoying because you have to pop the faceplace off completely then re-attach it for it to reset it so it will work again.

pro's- cheap, aux port, pre-amp.
cons- hard to learn how to do stuff with it, even setting the clock is hard. no mp3 playback.
It's very basic, but that's what I wanted. running an amp and sub no problem. Easy to set up and wire.

Kenwood blues

We were excited to purchase this receiver to go with our already Kenwood Amp and Subs....It installed in 15 min...but our installer told us that it really was incompatable with our hi end amp and subs..We couldnt get the sound we wanted...We were told what to look for in purchasing another head unit....We did just that and we are more than happy with the JVC head unit we bought...but we paid $30 more....

Good starter headunit

I got this with my two 10" memphis subs. And it works well. Not very complicated just, nothing fancy, just a good headunit.

well pleased with this player and the ease of installation, especially with the wiring and mounting kit. It made me think I was an expert at connecting and installing the unit. Finished up real nice and fit perfect and trim right into the factory slot of my older '94 Mazda!

I bought this radio mainly because of the price. After using it, it is very easy to use and the functions are all easy to find and adjust.
I would recommend this product for anyone looking for a radio under $100 and one without all the fancy options.

sweet unit!

i bought this head for my dad for xmas this year to replace his stock unit. the EQ was the first thing we noticed when we got it running. made his stock speakers sound like the memphis speakers in my car! very very good sound processing. i will continue to shop kenwood when money is low but my expectations are not!

for the price, i would recommend this to anyone. it has a lot of power and crystal clear sound.

I recently put this head unit into my 97' Grand Cherokee because my old head unit was clipping. This head unit is great for the price and pumps out some pretty good watts with the built in amp. Another quality feature is the pre amp/sub output in the back which made my memphis subs a breeze to install. Yet another great product from Kenwood.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!!!

The Good; nice quality deck for the money. Great sound for the watts per channel. Loud, but very little distortion at maximum volume.
The Bad; not easy to set up, to many functions on small knobs, knobs made for small finger person. Big fingers like me hit more that one function, drive you crazy.
The Ugly; detachable face always catches on release hook and doesn't come with a holder for the detachable face.

Basic Stereo

If you just need a stereo for as cheap as possible than this is your unit. It has all the basic functions most people use. 22 watts RMS and an auxiliary front input, not to mention it's only $65! I bought this for my friend to put in his truck and he couldn't be happier.

Kenwood Head Unit

I received this unit to replace the broken one in my integra and wow! This piece came with all the stuff to put it in easily for anybody. The sound that this radio put through my stock speakers is amazing. The difference is like night and day the sound is so clear and crisp. Before this I used a tape adapter for my zune and now I have a 3.5 cable and it makes a world of difference. If you are on a budget and don't want to sacrifice quality buy this product.

Awesome for the $$$

This is a nice looking, option loaded, upgrade from O.E.M. type of head unit. Like others have said, the audio adjustments (which are many, BTW) require a read of the manual but that's a small price to pay for such a nice stereo at an even nicer price. So far the CD player seems to be pretty darn skip-resistant. I would recommend this unit in a heartbeat!!

Great stereo at a Super Price!

This Kenwood CD receiver works great and has no issues at all. The service I got from Sonic Electronix was great. The stereo and the store are both highly recommended!!!

Love this deck

I bought this deck to replace the, well... Nothing in my 89 Cadillac deville and man this thing is great! The sound quality is great and it has an RCA out for my sub!!! Wow highly recommend this deck to anyone that is starting out in car audio or the pros it's perfect for everyone.

A lot better than Sony when compare with at the same price. Clearer sound and deeper bass.

Great upgrade

This is not a top end stereo by any stretch but it gets good sound and is easy to install and use. I would recommend it for upgrading a factory system.

Deck was okay, but only had it for about a month before the RCA out puts shorted out... Probably wouldn't buy another Kenwood deck.
