Great value

Radio??

The following review is for a previous version (KDC-HD548U).

The sound is fantastic and I love being able to plug in an MP3 player or other devices. However... AM reception is non-existent for all practical purposes and FM is not much better. I live in a major metro area and all I can reliably use the system for is pre-recorded music. For any radio reception I was far better off with the factory receiver.
I would not recommend this product to anyone who wants a usable radio.

nice radio

The following review is for a previous version (KDC-HD548U).

I bought this radio to replace a Clarion CZ500. I liked the Clarion but it had static at low volumes, so I returned it and bought this based on a technical support technicians recommendation.
In all I find it to a quality radio. First there is no static at any volume. It sounds like the higher are better and I get more mid bass. It has HD radio built in, which takes a while to get used to. I love the fact you can turn off the sub preamps.
My only complaint would be the lighting. When I have full sun it is a little hard to see the display. Good unit for the money

Great Product!!

The following review is for a previous version (KDC-HD548U).

I have owned numerous Kenwood Head units and have great luck with them. This one is no exception, I love the 3 sets of 4V RCA pre-amp outputs, Front USB & Aux. inputs & blue lighting at night!!! I would highly recomend this head unit to anyone!!

Great product as usual from Kenwood.

This unit is very nice and exactly what I'd expect from a conpany that I've run for the last 12 years for head units. However the website has it listed at a 4V out, but it's only 2.5V. Maybe Sonic will fix the specification sheet on the listing. The controls are very user friendly and easy to navigate the menus. The sound quality is also very good, but I'm running a Fosgate T400-4 to two sets of components. This deck is a very good choice for its price and I'd buy it again and recommend to friends.

Looks Great Sounds Better

The following review is for a previous version (KDC-HD548U).

I was given this as a Christmas gift and I love it! The HD radio sounds fantastic, my only complaint is that it occaisionally will switch back and forth from SD to HD which is kind of annoying. Other than that it is a great stereo to cap off my system and I highly recommend it. It has a rediculous amount of settings, so you can get exactly the sound you're looking for. It also comes with all of the wire harnesses and installation gear which makes it an even better buy.

Kenwood KDC-HD552U

Very good radio. Does what it's supposed to. The HD radio works very well in areas where you can pick up HD signal. Only bad thing is that the display screen is hard to read when the sun is shining.

Great price for all it features.

This is a very user friendly head unit. I love the 3 RCA outputs, front USB/AUX, and the wide variety of audio controlls it offers. Looks, sounds and performs flawlessly. Great value.

No less than perfect.

The following review is for a previous version (KDC-HD548U).

This head unit is easy to install with excellent instructions. Quite noob friendly, and it comes with three RCA ports for amps. Amazing display with a neat purple and blue light. For the price, you get all aspects of a great head unit without an LCD screen.

Awesomeness in the making

This head unit is awesome, i put it in my 2005 honda accord sedan V6, kenwood is awesome, i have kenwood 5-1/2s, Tweeters, 6X9s, and two 12" subs all kenwood and the headunit, the head unit is great with subwoofer level to the look of the actual head unit. Louder then the factory radio in the car i had, the bass boost is massive, i always recommend Sonic and kenwood products thanks again, the dash kit fit perfect with the wiring harness.

Good unit with many sound/functin adjustments

The following review is for a previous version (KDC-HD548U).

Simple user interface with easy push access of the volume knob. Set up procedure was simple and you get to set speaker size for overall 4-speaker sound density. This unit has amazing sound quality and 2-step bass boost capabilities. Some complain about screen washout in bright daylight but the default for brightness is set to low - just go into function and set dimming to off. I live in Washington DC so there are many HD stations and they all sound great plus you can link stations for listening to their side bands for more music. You will play with the sound adjustments so much the learning curve comes naturally. Get the carrier 'SoundKase DFC1X' for storing the detachable faceplate. I haven't found one issue with this unit and for the price point you'll save by having the HD portion integrated correctly.

great value / great product

i have a small fleet of cars in my family and i have been using Kenwood for the last 10 years. these have been the best bang for your buck that i have ever used. i have not had any issues and my oldest deck is 8 years old. the remote is losing its finish and works great. Kenwood still uses the same wiring harness as the oldest deck that i have. ease of installation is simple and the instructions are accurate.

HD Radio

This HD unit tunes stations in well. Sound is crisp. I have this unit pushing RF R165 6.5" door speakers and RF P1692 6x9" in the rear decklid. At 22w per channel the 6.5 sound great. The 6x9 sound good but can use more power to get the full potential. All in all great unit for the price. Would definitely recommend.

nice head unit

The following review is for a previous version (KDC-HD548U).

Great head unit!! iTunes taging by pressing and holding the blue hd button and can store upto 50 tags. great sound quality with stock speakers even better with 2 way infinity kappa 6x8's. Really clean highs mid bass not so much in a 2005 crown vic deffinetly going to need subs for that set up if you want any kinda bass or at-least speaker baffles.

Cons: the volume goes from 0 - 35 and the sound quallity drops quickly after you pass # 27 especially if the original song has a high volume presset but if the volume or octave curve is lower then you can turn it up high with out disstortion. the price was good but it was knocking on the door of the high side though but for the built in hd radio and tagging and other goodies on it its worth it!
