KCG-4042A....A Performer?

I have very distinct, some might even say radical, opinions about Kenwood products. Since my first aftermarket head-unit (a Kenwood tape deck), I have been ultimately skeptical of anything Kenwood. That is not to say that their products always disappoint;
no, not that, just that their products don't fit ME.
I have built boxes and installed systems for many people who believe in their Kenwoods- speakers, subs, head-units, everything. My problem is that I just cannot get used to their metallic, tiny sound. Am I the only person who thinks this?!? I don't know, but I'm inclined to think not.
That being said, this product, the KCG-4042A equilizer, is a solid performer. There. Just simply that; it works, it is durable, pretty looking in the console, and I like it. To my ear, a Kenwood head-unit needs alot of adjusment anyway-add ons like amps and subs, too. A system needs some kind of secondary control when one adds numerous components, and if you do not want to use up all of the automobile's cargo space, a DIN-sized EQ is the best option. The KCG-4042A provides every necessary function and does so with minimal complaint. Kenwood products may not have MY perfect sound, but they are user friendly.
Basically, Kenwood's KCG-4042A EQ is a fine example of an entry-level equalizer; it's got everything one needs to perfect their car's sound stage. And if you have a Kenwood system already, why not go the next step and add an important piece of equipment. This one would be a fine choice.

Nice Little Unit

Really happy with this unit, it does exactly what I need it to do. I wish it had more frequencies but when your driving you dont have much time to play with it, so simple its best. For me having the ability to enable and disable the subwoofer and eq is great.

No issues with this unit at all, I love it.

Still the same after 20 years

Kenwood has been making this EQ for 20 years. It's the same model that I bought in 1992. You just can't improve on perfection! This unit is great.

One of many greats from kenwood

I have this unit paired with my 642 kenwood head unit run to a 4 channel high and mid amp also to a pioneer mono block sub amp it does everything well and the small size makes it easy to mount anywhere. This eq isn't as advanced as some I have owned but over all it does just about everything you would need it too do. the selectable illumination is also a nice feature.

Not great value

I have bought plenty of products from Sonic Electronix and everything has worked great and the prices are very competitive, however this Kenwood EQ performs when it wants to. It is very finicky and random when it decides to decrease the volume on the speakers. Currently I am using it only for subwoofers where it is the only output that operates properly. This seems to be a common problem in these Kenwood EQ's as this is the 4th one I have owned in 15 years.

Awesome EQ

i bought this eq mainly because everyone i know has it and they all recommended this unit to me. i went ahead and bought it and loved it ever since i put it in my car **NOTE** you have to have a 4 ch. and a sub amp to real get the best out of this EQ... with that said yeah this is an awesome buy i like the fact that its small so its very easy to mount almost anywhere...
