Best HU I've ever owned

I upgraded from my old MP-822. Install took minutes. Sound is excellent. Higher powered preamp makes all the difference. I'm sure this years model is just as good, probably better.

Amazing head unit.

The sound quality coming from this is outstanding. I love all of the features for it to. The front usb port has got to be the coolest thing ever. I put all my music on a flash drive and i never have to use cd's. The head unit is the brains of your system. Without a good one you will be missing out. This is the best choice.

KDC-X492

I wanted to replace my factory deck. I chose the KDC-X492. The USB and the Aux inputs are really nice. I have a bunch of USB sticks that I keep music on. After replacing my factory deck with this, it seemed like my music came alive. The highs and the mids are more clear and sound better. The navigation is some what difficult to understand at first but I got used to it. When the sun hits the display, it is difficult to read. But, the display looks great at night. Overall, this is a great product. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

This is the one

This is one of the best car stereos I\'ve owned. I love the usb port so I can plug in my flash drive for endless music. You have options to fine tune your sound. Mine sounded great being matched up to Kenwood 4x6\'s and 6x9\'s and one 12\" sub.

great sound

for a very low price, an excellent value and sound, the usb port makes life very simple, just put a pen drive in it and in play. Very fast while reading and playing the mp3 files, no waiting time.

BEST sounding deck I've ever powered factory speakers with!

This bad boy was installed in under 10 minutes since my car already had the plastic adapter and the factory-to-aftermarket wiring harness adapter. I was blown away by how good this deck sounds even with my factory speakers! I'm anxious to get the Kenwood Excelon 6x9's and 6-3/4's I ordered, along with the Kenwood 5-band EQ. I'm almost scared to imagine how awesome my rolling concert hall will sound when I am done, all thanks to Sonic Electronix and their AWESOME PRICES!! I already have a pair of Sony 1300-watt 12's and an 800 watt Rockford Fosgate amp powering them, but won't be hooking up the subs and sub amp until I get the new Kenwood 4-channel amp from Sonic (don't want to lay across my stripped out interior more than once). I totally love the USB port being in front instead of the back with a cable! Like so many of you, I have tons of music on flash drives and it's so nice to "plug in" 1600 songs! My only complaint is that you can't fast forward a digital song with the remote, only go to the next track (is possible with the Control Knob on the deck, however). Yes, this Kenwood eXcelon is the sweetest head unit I have owned in about 20 years, and by far is the best sounding to factory speakers! It even makes my dash speakers sing! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DECK! Even if you only plan to run stock speakers! And Sonic saved me a lot of money by having this deck for much less than a local store who charged me full price for the harness. Sonic has gained a customer for life!

A must have!

This stereo was sold out in my area so I was happy to see I could order it online and for a little less! Any savings helps! It is so perfect for me because of the USB and AUX ports and I love the sliding protection window covering them, I would so recommend this stereo. I would also order more things from sonix electronics! Thanx!

Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X492

Very nice system. Good documentation made it easy to install. Too bad it will not recogize any other USB device but the Aux input on the front panel is better than other systems.

Great Value

After shopping around I made a move for this deck. It produces much better sound than my previous two decks. I won't have to replace this one. The features are great, outside of the time it takes to figure out how to use them. After an hour I got my system all tuned to near perfection. It now sounds great at low and high volumes.

Exelent Receiver

i have this thing hooked to my MTX system and it really helps alot i take all the bass and lower the subwoofer to -15 and it still pounds. the best feature is the USB port which you is very easy to use. just plug it in and it will start playing automatically. no more burning and wasting cds with this thing. i used to hate it when i downloaded new songs and i couldn't listen to them until i burned a cd with the song in it but with this i don't have to worry about it no more and neither will you.

Kenwood Klassic

Pros:

+Front USB input: Great for hooking up an iPod. i have full control over my iPod using the head unit or remote control. It's just like plugging your iPod into a computer, and I didn't have to buy any additional cables or adapters. I have a 4th gen nano and it charges my iPod as well.

+Front aux input: My friend used this input to connect her iPod because she didn't have her USB connector with her. Maybe it was her cable, but she had to use the iPod to control playback with this form of connection.

+MP3 CD playback: the one knob design makes it easy to control volume, tune to stations, and select albums.

+Sound quality control: Easy to adjust bass, treble, etc.

+Sub toggle switch: Holding and pressing the knob up turns your sub off, great when you are cruising thru parts of town where you don't want to be heard.

+Expandability options: At this price, not many head units are compatible with Satellite radio, HD radio, and Bluetooth.

Cons:

-Multi-jog: Seems like there could be an easier way to control iPod playback. You have to press this key once, turn the knob to select artist, push the knob, and then turn the knob to find the artist you want, once you find the artist you push the knob in again. I guess the good news is that after you go through that process once, you can skip thru artists the same way you would a MP3 CD (press knob up or down).

-Clock display: you can either have song info scroll or clock display during playback. There doesn't seem to be a way to get the clock info to appear. Even when you turn off music and go into standby mode, the clock doesn't appear. I'm a little picky about this because I relied on my last deck (a Pioneer) for the time.

Overall: I definitely recommend this stereo, I have had it for a year and a half and I haven't had any problems in terms of durability. Great value at this price, the hangups are minor (mentioned above) and do not take away from the fact that this unit offers tons of options and does everything else as expected.

UPDATE to my previous review

I just installed new Kenwood KFC-6982ie 5-way 6x9" rear speakers, KFC-C1739ie 6-3/4" 2-way door speakers, and Clarion SRG920C 3-1/2" dash speakers to this deck and WOW! This deck amazes me more and more every day! It's like all my speakers suddenly woke up. The highs are outstanding and the mids are awesome. The 6X9's even pump out enough bass to shake mirrors and doors even with my bass setting set to zero! Still the best deck I've ever owned when powering speakers with no external amps! I can't wait to install the two Kenwood KAC-7204 and the single KAC-9204D amps I bought from Sonic to power everything! At that time, the deck will only power my Clarion dash speakers and Kenwood tweeters, but I have no doubt I'll be even more blown away! BUY THIS DECK! You will NOT be sorry. My only suggestion is hooking up the power wire to constant 12v rather than switched ignition 12v because of the long delay in powering up after you shut off the key, especially when reading the USB drive. (I still have not put in a CD because I have 1600 songs on my USB flash drive!)

Nice Reciever im satisfied

Where to start umm well this is a nice piece of work. it sounds amazing and with me myself being a music producer, i am always after the best quality. i have a nissan altima and the set up is 2 pioneer 6x9s in my rear and i bootleg my door speakers to fit my pioneer 6x8s instead of the 5x7s that are supposed to fit (note: 5x7 and 6x8 are not the same in mounting!!!!). also i have a pioneer premier "12 sub running at 300w rms and wow my music sounds amazing!!!. the navigation is a bit tricky but it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out how to get da basics down. one problem is that there really is a glare on the screen during the daytime and i dnt like dat but its no big deal. the quality of the systems makes up for those lil minor problems. the usb and aux input is sweet. just pop in ur usb and start listening to ya joints. the price of it is good and you will get more then what you pay for. this is nice and it looks good too. i would defiantly recommend this to you...

Excellent!

This stereo does it all .. it plays any type of file I have put in it either on a cd or through a usb device. Many people have asked where I got and want one for their vehicles. I absolutely love this product and sonicelectronix.com was wonderful to work with. I received my stereo in two days and it was the cheapest price on this product that I could find. Thanks so much!

Kenwood KDC-X492

A very nice unit. Hook up is very simple and it is very easy to use. Have another one of these in my other vehicle and both are working great with no problems. Quick shipping from Sonic.
I am very satisfied with Sonic Electronix and will order from them again in the future.
