Very good speakers, nitpicks only for downsides

The following review is for 41KSS674, which is a part of the bundle you are viewing.

I got these after realizing that I was pushing the JBL GTO628s too hard with my amp and needed more power handling. I did a lot of shopping and almost got the Polks but I wanted enough power handling to be bullet proof with my amp and I have Kicker 6.5" subs in the back holes so figured I might as well stick with one brand. I was hesitant due to the higher price and my underwhelming experience with the lower end Kicker coax speakers I listened to in a retail store. I do not regret my choice however.

I'm driving them through a Pioneer GM-D8604 being fed by a Pioneer MVH-X560BT head.

First the one real down side: The crossover is huge. I still found room in the doors of my 2000 Corvette, but they were much larger than I expected. Good news, they don't look like they'll be failing anytime soon. Beefy is a good adjective. Only other niggles, documentation could be a little better, crimp on connectors for the crossover would be nice addition to the package.

The look great, they're convertibles, so you can use them as coaxial speakers if you want, the power handling is fantastic, and they sound amazing. I had to modify the Metra adapter for my Corvette doors because it was a 6.5" hole and these take advantage of every bit of room they can find in the 6.75" package. I used a drum sander to open the mounts up a little and they work great. They did a great job of maximizing speaker area and it shows in the low range. It also keeps the installation depth quite shallow. They even have a channel in the back if you run it as a coax so that the wires don't stick out past the magnet.

I mounted the tweeters with the angled bezel in the door adapters as well and the staging of the highs is great. The silk dome tweeters aren't harsh or directional like a lot of less expensive tweeters. With the coax JBLs the highers were much more directional. 4x the price, you expect better.

All in all, great speaker, handle lots of power, flat through a very wide range, including some decent bass. Paired with the CVT65s in the back I'm extremely happy with the sound. I don't have booming lows but there's plenty of tight punch. It's no heavier than the blose system I removed and I didn't give up any storage space.

Bottom line: Be nice if they were cheaper and the crossover more compact, but I don't think you can find anything that compares for the price point with this much power handling.
