Works perfectly...

Great install kit from Metra for 06-08 Audi A3 with *existing* double-DIN headunits. For cars with single DIN factory HUs you will either need to use a different kit (to install a single DIN HU) or convert your car to double-DIN first and the use this kit (if you need to do this, search on google or some Audi forums for a how to, on conversion).

With this you can install an aftermarket unit in your double-DIN-dash A3. Either as provided with a single DIN aftermarket unit; OR, you can easily use a double DIN head unit with this kit, just remove the pocket and cut out the centre plastic bar and you're all set for a double DIN aftermarket unit. Nowhere does Metra tell you this, but it works nonetheless.

Similarly Metra's site says it's only for 06-07 A3s but the 08 is identical, it works fine (I have an 08); it will probably work in 09+ (facelift) cars as well as the dash appears the same in it as well.

The kit is a simple plastic dash part plus snap-in pocket (applicable only if you're using a single DIN aftermarket HU) which forms the frame for putting a standard sized HU in the car. The plastic matches quite nicely with the OE plastic finish and colour, so it looks great.

Install is pretty much tool-less though note that you will need four Audi/VW radio removal "keys" to take out the stock unit. After that, you just install your aftermarket sleeve/cage in this dash part and then it clips into the dash cavity and you're ready to slide in your aftermarket unit.

Only negative really is the price. It's pretty pricey for a simple piece of plastic. I've seen lots of other dash kits out there with lots more parts (and even more packaging) than this, that cost far less. I guess when you buy a newer luxury-branded vehicle, they really like to make you pay, lol.

Other than that the kit certainly does its job and is exactly what you need to install an aftermarket unit in a double-DIN A3.
