Dj Displeased

I have been on the decks since the mid 80s. This seemed like a good entry into digital dj'ing with many features at a mid range price and 4ch so I can plug my turntables in.

I have not ever been so disappointed with a purchase of this type. I have had nothing but problems.

The sound will turn up by itself, gains and other controls completely unresponsive often only working after several tweaks, sound coming from channels that have the levels turned down omg, a very faint hum/signal noise from one channel and often one deck will just stop working. The dreaded sync button fails to respond, the level indicators get stuck at one level and the sound quality is poor. The overall feel is very cheap and flimsy. The lights don't work depending on which of their recommended software is used.

Overall, if you buy it after reading this, you are mad and it will probably suit you.. If you are not mad, you will be after a few months owning it. Don't do it. Save your money and buy one of the $1000 offerings but DO NOT BUY THIS if you are in the least bit serious about dj'ing. Dj Orion Australia - 42yo, 25yrs djing, 10,000 records, played with the best, CDJs and vinyl etc etc... not a kid with no idea and no basis for the above evaluation.

Note: This review has no bearing on Sonic Electronics who provide a great service.

Numark N4 - Decent midi controller

I've been using my Numark N4 with Virtual DJ for about 6 months. You can read the "features" section on any website to see most PROs...so i won't bore you with them. Here are some shortcomings of this controller...

- The thing i hate about this controller the most is the "Cue point" functionality. You have to hit the SHIFT key to get to your Cue points. I use my cue points pretty extensively and having to push the SHIFT key each time is a pain.

- This controller can handle up to 4 channels. Hitting the deck key to switch between channels is also another headache. Its not something you get used to very easily. Often times i wonder why my song isn't starting even though I'm hitting the play button and then i realize i have the wrong deck selected. I think there could've been an easier way to switch between decks.

- Sometimes when you play songs on more than one channel the volume level on one or more channels can be very low...you have to keep fiddling with the "gain" knob to make the volume levels acceptable.

- Another issue is that the buttons "misfire" if you hit them at an angle. I sometimes use the controller while sitting down on a chair so that the controller is a little below my chest level. Because of this angle when i push buttons on the controller (e.g. PLAY or CUE or LOOP IN and LOOP OUT or RELOOP) it presses the button twice (double click) when i only pushed it once. This sometimes causes my songs to go out of sync because i hit the PLAY button but it pauses it (PLAY button pushed twice), If I use the controller standing up i don't encounter this issue for the most part.

For me the biggest issue is the "cue points" functionality. I gave it a rating of 3 because of this problem. I think there's a way to re-map the controller to work the way i want but its too much trouble to learn how to do remap. Other issues are fairly small and can be ignored or lived with.
