Tecnique ICBM-9293

First item was defective and returned for a replacement. Since the replacement has been installed, if has worked flawlessly.

Kudos to Sonic for their customer service in the replacement process.

Spare instructions, stobes for some reason.

Just had one ICBM-9293 installed today for $200 including tax.

The positive points: Is better than a regular rear view mirror because you get more of a fish eye view. This is not possible with a regular rear-view mirror because you would see too much of the inside of the car. Picture quality is in color and is sufficient. There are adjustments for brightness, contrast, tint, and saturation as well as an on/off/ button and a button to switch to DVD (which is not present and only goes to blue screen).

The negative points: when light hits the camera at a certain angle or brightness, the screen strobes or flashed quickly. Not sure why it is doing this and because the instructions are extremely spare, there are no hints as to why it might be happening. The installer switched out the camera for the same model from a different box, but it did the same thing. We tried putting a little piece of window tint film over it, but that made it worse. I am thinking that it may be due to the angle. Because it is mounted on a tilted bumper, it points down a little and I think the strobe could be the camera telling us that we are getting close to something and need to stop. Again, instructions are worth a nickel, so there is absolutely no troubleshooting information. The dealer is ordering a new camera for me from a different company. Don't know the outcome yet.

hidden warranty requirements

This is NOT a "do it yourself" kit which is only revealed upon opening the package, removing the mirror and SUPRISE! To validate the warranty you MUST have it professionally installed which is made easy because there are NO instructions included.So if you are up for a good frustration just accept the fact that YOU won't be doing the install. When I get it installed, I'll let you know if it was worth the trouble.

Kool Tool

I brought this unit just to have something different but it turned out to be a really Kool Tool I used this camera for front view on my 97 ram pick-up already have rearview cam. This unit also became a spare monitor for dvd video play. don't really have problems, only used it handful of times. ok buy for money
