Good deck - with a couple caveats.

This is a good head unit. Works pretty well. I would consider myself a 'power user' of tech gear, I always work to get the most out of my technology purchases. I did a lot of research when putting my system together for my van. I put this in a 2009 GMC Savana. I chose this particular deck for 2 reasons:

1 - it promises to support Apple's CarPlay with a coming software update.
2 - it supports dual zone entertainment.

I installed this unit with all accessories in my van. I also got a 22" flip down monitor for my setup, a 12" Kicker sub and an Alpine KTP-445U amp for the rest of the speakers in the van. It's not that the radio can't power the speakers, but cranking it up would start to make things less clear. The Alpine amp took care of that - it sounds great with the sub.

Issues I have with the deck itself:

1 - it will not recognize either my iPhone 5 or my iPad Mini Retina. (!!!) It did at first, but that has changed now. All I get when plugging them in is an 'Error 02-60'. I've googled my fingers to death and cannot find a solution for it. My girlfriend's iPhone 5 performs perfect with it. Go figure.
2 - When playing a movie off a USB drive for the kids on the display in back, playing music off my girlfriend's iPhone 5 would occasionally stutter. Sure, I'm probably asking a lot of my electronics, but nothing beyond what they are advertised to be capable of.

I also had to modify the adapter kit that mounts the deck in my dash - the motorized screen wouldn't move in and out. I realize these kits are made for any number of manufacturer head units, but I was kind of disappointed that I had to hack at the thing to make it work.

I'm hopeful that the software update with CarPlay will rectify the issue I'm having with my iOS devices.

In one word awesome! you must get this product pioneer has hit a homerun!!

AVH-4000NEX

Excellent head unit. Upgraded from the AVH-8600BHS which was also a great unit.. The 8600 was a lot easier to get APP Radio to work without rooting the phone. Again excellent SQ. Very responsive display. And the added feathers such as time alignment improves the SQ even more. Great unit if you can afford one get it, and pair it with a good Amp..

There comes the minor buts...

- Pioneer Matrix software is very basic and only allows you to set your crossfading.

- Matrix sometimes become unresponsive when changing tracks via skip button on the device it self or steering wheel control.

- I bought a 2TB USB3.0 drive for it which didn't work, however found a old 500GB 2.0 which works fine.

Quality Unit

I've had this unit for a little over a month now, and I have to say it is a major upgrade from my previous. It was also double the cost though. The sound quality is great. It remains perfectly clear at max volume. There's plenty of customization options. Now I'm just waiting for the CarPlay update.

Pioneer 4000NEX

Amazing deck. I always buy Pioneer decks as they have never let me down. I have had this deck installed for only a few weeks & haven't even hit the tip of the iceberg on how much this thing has to offer.

You Won't Regret Buying One of These

I'm really liking this Pioneer head unit. The sound quality is excellent and the user interface is not overly complicated considering all the features this unit has. I have it paired to an Android phone and have not had any issues with hearing or being heard during calls. Being able to control Pandora from the unit instead of the phone is really nice. This is my first HD Radio and I had no idea FM could sound so good. The equalizer and crossover settings allow for unlimited customization of sound settings. I haven't tried AppRadio yet. Maybe I'll get around to it one of these days.
I highly recommend this unit and since I've been the victim of car stereo theft twice I will be taking advantage of the removable faceplate so I will be able to keep this one.

Has all the features I wanted and needed, especially the app mode for my android phone!

I have always liked and owned a few pioneer DVD & CD receivers, I replaced my AVH-P4400BH with the AVH-4000NEX which is a big difference, the 4400 is good but the 4000nex is great, and I recomend to a friend And anyone who wants a great unit.

Awesome product! Completely satisfied!

I have had the AVH4000-nex for about a month now, and it is an amazing unit. Everything I expected and more. After going through the process of updating the firmware(which was very simple) I am able to use app radio and car play.

love this thing!

Seemed a bit confusing at first (has a whole lot of functions ) but after a few days of figuring out becomes really user friendly. Love the auto connect to my phone.
