A great unit that is loaded with features! I wanted to get a navigation head unit but decided to give the Android Auto of this Pioneer a try. I could not be happier! This is Pioneers entry level Android Auto head unit and a very, very good one.I did a double-din conversion in a 2002 Yukon Denali and wish that I had done it a long time ago.I am not a audiophile but i am kinda picky about my music.If you are considering this one,don't wait any longer I think you will love it! I do! I have only had it for 1 month so I can't vouch for the durability yet.

Can't beat it for the price

I'm very pleased with this head unit. The touch screen is just as sensitive and easy to use as a smart phone. Also the quality of picture it puts out is very nice as well. Sound quality was very great. Could tune your system in all kinds of ways without crossovers it's all built In and works well. Only downside I could say about this radio is in the app mode you kind of have to raise your voice and talk perfectly clear for it to pick up your voice right and sometimes glitches but could just need a update well worth the money best head unit over owned

Very nice.

Installation in a 2015 forester was pretty uneventful. I did source harness items from a vendor on Subaru boards to allow maintaining oem usb, aux input locations and steering wheel controls. Now on to the Pioneer: very cool. Screen is very clear and good definition. Downside is fingerprints. A matte screen protector might help. Set up is menu driven and easy. Good EQ adjustability-either preset or custom. States only 14 watts RMS but drives kicker speakers (factory upgrade) without sweat and with plenty of headroom. (Prob need a small powered sub to get audiophile level but I listen to a wide variety without wanting more). The really big question: how's CarPlay? Interfaces nicely with iPhone 6. Main apps on screen (music, phone, messages-listen and dictate response, maps, etc). Seems to move seamlessly without glitches so far. Having 2 USB ports is nice as I can keep an iPod plugged in as well as iPhone (CarPlay requires hard connection) and toggle back and forth pandora, other music apps work well (and I have cut the tie with Sirius due to this). I highly recommend this headunit based on my 1 month experience.

Pioneer AVH- 4200NEX

This is a great head unit. In fact it's so nice, that Pioneer released it twice. In 2016 as the 4200NEX and in 2017 as the 4201NEX (same unit but with a backup camera included). It has a ton of features like Apple Carplay, built in HD tuner, direct Ipod controls, Android Auto, and a detachable face panel for security. It also has a ton of fine tuning features for full customization of your sound system. I just upgraded from the AVH-p8400bh that I've had in my car for 5 years and there's still nothing wrong with it (just wanted newer technology). All in all, this is the one to have if you're a Pioneer fan.

Great stereo at great price

Excellent sound and features, as long as you have iPhone. Android Auto only works with very few android devices. No support for Samsung, so check your phone for compatibility first. Pioneer does not publish a list, Crutchfield is the only place I could find one.

No android auto if you have a USB C phone!!!

I have an android phone with a USB c cord. Android auto did not function with original cord or when I purchased a cord recommended on the pioneer website as one that would remedy this problem. I chose this product over others for the android auto feature. I would not recommend this product unless you use an Iphone. I works fine otherwise, but this is a deal breaker for me.

Pioneer AVH4200

This is a great deck and has surpassed all of my expectations. I last had a Kenwood double din DVD deck and this ones simplicity and ease of use are amazing. It looks great, sounds great, and has every feature that I need. HD radio, CDs, DVD, XM, and Android Auto all work flawlessly and sound fantastic. You cannot go wrong with this deck. Android Auto looks a little pixelated, but the other source interfaces are crystal clear. I think it is a limitation of the Android software, not the Pioneer hardware.

Feature Packed and Amazing Build Quality

I finally found the perfect headunit in my budget. The 4200NEX checks every box with your standard HD Radio, Sirius XM support, Bluetooth, etc. but takes it a step further with Android Auto. I haven't used Apple CarPlay but AA is great and works flawlessly with this unit. You also have AV input for cameras, SD card, AUX, CD, and iDatalink capability.

Overall the menus are very snappy and there is no lag or choppiness when scrolling or changing sources. The 13 band EQ is nice but you also have features like time alignment and individual speaker level adjustment. Crossovers are very easy to set with many different configurations allowing you to adjust the frequency as well as the slope.

I was concerned to motorized touchscreen would be fragile but that is not the case as the entire unit feels solid and very well made. One complaint I do have after owning the AVH-X3800BHS is the lack of built in Spotify support. The cheaper and older 3800 had a native Spotify app that was very easy to use and my favorite feature of the radio. However the 4200NEX no longer features this app and only natively supports Pandora. You can still stream Spotify though Bluetooth, but outside of skipping tracks you have to use your phone to change the music.

Android Auto is amazing. The maps work great with AA, and there are several supported music apps. The voice commands work well but I've had issues when driving in areas where cell service is spotty. I do dislike the 6-tap limitation Google implemented for safety - I feel like this will just cause more people to use Bluetooth to stream their music instead of AA and just rely on AA for maps when needed. Let's say you are trying to find a playlist or artist in any music app through AA. If you tap the screen 6 times it will freeze and not allow you to continue searching until you pull over or stop moving. If you can get past this then AA really is awesome with you music, maps, phone dialer and voice commands all accessible from one simple homescreen.

Overall the 4200NEX is a great buy for someone looking to add a lot of versatility when it comes to playing music in the car as well as being able to use your smartphone for navigation. EQ and crossovers are done right and easy to set allowing for great control over your sound before it's played through your amp or speakers. I would definitely buy this product again...and probably will for my girlfriend's car.

Great unit!! AVH-4200NEX

This unit has it all for me. HD Radio, Apple CarPlay, 2 usb outputs, direct control for my ipod, front and rear camera inputs, dual zone outputs and a beautiful 7” full detachable face screen. The fine tuning controls are awesome and it even has time alignment and Pioneer’s AutoEQ. I upgraded to the Avh-4200nex after 5 years with an Avh-p8400bh which I never had a single problem with. I suspect I’ll have the same reliability with this unit.

Nice unit

Nice head unit, can see the screen during the day in glare, works well with both carplay and android auto, works well with idatalink to retain factory satellite radio and wheel controls.

Love the interface with Android Auto. Getting texts played over the stereo on an older vehicle is pretty neat. I purchased the radio for Bluetooth phone features more than the sound quality. I also wanted a backup camera since I am driving a truck. Sound quality is significantly better than the factory GM radio thanks in part to the13 band EQ. Setup and use of the radio is very easy and connection to Android Auto is simple.

I would definitely recommend this radio.

Great for SmartPhone (iPhone) User

I purchased this for a 2003 vw Golf to replace the factory Monsoon sound system. This Radio is more than i expected it made the factory 8 speaker system come to life! I would recommend this stereo! Note: USB and HDMI cables must be purchased separately. I installed the Rerii 2 Meters 6 Feet Length USB & HDMI AUX Extension Panel Flush Mount in place of my factory cigarette lighter plug.

Awaiting second unit

I just shipped my first one back) four days all good then unit would not load operating system or allow any interactions at all. It loaded backup camera live view and stayed there every time. I Cycled power, disconnected battery, removed and bench checked the unit with only positive, negative and switch wires connected--ALL FAIL I'll try one more unit--this time I'll wire a toggle switch in the ground to perform manual reset without shutting down the vehicle. Shouldn't need any of this at ANY price point. I won't buy a third

Android Auto + CyanogenMod 13 = Sweetness

I bought this to replace the boring stock stereo that came in my 2012 F-150 XLT Crew Cab. I chose this unit solely for Android Auto so I could use Google Maps (Yay, quick traffic!) & Google Music directly from my phone. I was a little worried that Android Auto might not work properly with CM13 (if you have to ask, you don't have CM) on my Galaxy S5, but it is completely seamless. Google maps runs even better than the navigation in our brand new 2016 Fusion SE w/Ford's Sync.

***If using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, or whatever, be sure to plug in the correct plug for your device before you close up your dash; for example, I am using a USB 3.0 plug for my connection, so Android Auto has to be in USB slot #2 in the back of the 4100. I had to take apart my dash just to move the USB from #1 to #2 :).
This 4100NEX is way pricey for me, but considering I plan to have this truck for years, it will be money well spent.
