powerful

Prior to building a new box, I put this in a 1.5 ft3 ported box that I had been using with a Cerwin Vega sub - just so I could get some break in time. Wow! This sub is built for sealed boxes, so I didn't want to push it too hard, but it took 500W RMS with no problems (aside from realizing a 3" dia. port is way way too small for this thing, now I know how bad chuffing can be). I then put it into a 0.8 ft3 sealed box inside my truck (200W RMS). I agree with the other review - the midbass is surprisingly good. I have used small boxes in the past and always felt they sounded too hyped up and really kind of bloated. Not so here - it's smooth, it goes down surprisingly low. If I had to sum it up in one word - powerful. Fit and finish is also a high point - there's such a huge jump between the SR components and the other Polk speakers. It's over 20 lbs, so using T nuts over screws is recommended for mounting. I picked this over the JL 10W7 - for me it was a decision well made. 200W will drive it nicely, but it really deserves 400W or more, you won't believe how well it takes it.

Great sound

This sub sounds amazing! It has clean crisp lows that are very detailed and musical. This sub gets quite loud but if your looking for a ton of volume get two. The reason for needing two is that at high volume levels the lead wires slap on the back of the cone. Also since this sub has only 16mm of xmax it has a tendency to bottom out but the bass is so clean even when cranked that you can barely notice. This is a sub that you really need to break in for a few months. It also sounds great in a properly ported/vented box as well as the recommended sealed.

Sadly this sub has blown after only 6 months. It was about 2°f and I had long night so I jumped in and cranked some All that Remains. Shortly after the sub just stopped. It will kick in when you push on the cone or at room temperature but sounds scratchy and cuts off or out randomly. I was running it off 640watts rms of a soundstream class a/b amp so it was neither over or under powered. This sub was great and if I could afford to run more than one I would definitely buy again but for me I need one sub that alone can produce high spl and sq. This sub could have been perfect but even with its flaws I still recommend it.

A Wonderful Secret Among Subs

JL Audio has nothing on this subwoofer. Polk delivers a superb, deep base in a 10 inch subwoofer that sounds many inches larger. As with every other Polk speaker I own, the price to sound quality ratio cannot be matched by its competitors. I am thoroughly impressed with my SR104 purchase. I don't even think my car could have handled the SR124.

this polk is bad

I heard two 10" and 12" the other day in a ported box and they blew my mind. I would definitely recommend these to anyone.

SR104 rocks

I bought this sub on the wise recommendation of my installer who made a custom box specifically suited for this sub and the available trunk space for an Infiniti G37. It is driven by a JL 500/1 and it hits solid as a rock. has very good low end that is comparable to many 12's and tight midbass that sounds like a 8'"...the best of both worlds...highly recommended.
