ok speaker exagerated highs

I like a flat response in speakers for realistic sound. I record music and reference the mix in my car also. The high boost makes it hard to judge a mix. might be good for some people but just too bright in one high frequency for me.

Sastifying Product

I got the Polk Audio db651 6.5 in speakers. I have a Dodge Dakota Extended Cab and got 2 pairs. I am VERY impressed with the sound clarity and just sheer power of these speakers. Granted it is in a truck cab but these things are extremely loud. They have great clarity at all volume levels and are able to play loud enough to make me yell at my passengers to be heard and they still didn't have any distortion. For $65 a pair they are a steal. I'm only running 22 rms thru my head unit and they can take 60 rms I believe. I highly recommend these speakers to anyone.

kind of tinny sounding

There seems to be one high frequency that is much louder than the rest around the frequency of a hi hat or cymbal. I prefer a flat response.
These speakers have that high boost which colors the sound and doesn't sound real.

Polk Audio db651

I had replaced the Polk Audio db61 door speakers from some kenwood speakers that I ended up blowing. Believe it or not, they sound better!
And for the price you cant beat it anywhere.

Need Power!

Awesome speakers, but they need to be amped! Head unit power will not be enough to show what these speakers can really do. In fact, it will make you not like them at all! Amp them and you'll love em! I installed them in my F150. Needed adapter plates and with a little dremmel work, they ended up fitting fine. I ended up installing the crossovers inside the panel under the window switches which worked out great. Polk is very good quality for the price. Just don't forget to feed these speakers power or you will not like!

Excellent Speakers

This is the first set of component speakers I have ever purchased, and I must say, the sound quality from these Polk component speakers is absolutely incredible. The Polk 6.5 component speakers replaced a set of aftermarket 6.5 coaxial speakers, and the Polk speakers are just so much better sounding. The power handling is pretty impressive, and I have yet to be able to make these speakers distort. The bass response is just so much better than you get with coaxial speakers. I know they are a little pricey, but I have found the sound quality to make them well worth the extra money. I would buy these again in a heartbeat if I had room for them...

GREAT

These speakers were installed in a 20 ft wakeboarding boat and without an amplifier these speakers get loud and clear with no distortion.

Major step up from stock boat speakers

Like others speaker clarity and loudness are great, bass is a little weak. I'm working on a set for my Tundra next.

Great set of components for the price

Even with the horrible base stock stereo in my jeep, these speakers made a dramatic leap in sound quality. Then upgrading my head unit to a jvc and adding an Alpine amp (KTP-445U), these components sound great. I have had some very nice sounding systems in previous cars. For the price, the Polks are a great buy and would be very difficult to beat.

My only advice to Wrangler owners, if you are going to place the tweeters in the tombstone, be ready to get out an exacto knife and sand paper. It took a little trimming/sanding/muscle, but well worth it.

Great for the price

Polk has always been a good brand. With a well adjusted stereo I can get good bass and treble as a two-way speaker is expected. The mids are alright as expected.

Four of these in my truck can provide enough thump to delay my decision on installing a sub. Everything from acoustical, rock, r&b, and whatever sound good. This is coming from an audiophile.

Incredible speakers (especially for the price)

Great speakers for an even better price. Very well built and sound phenomenal. Offer great highs, good mid, and surprising bass. They shake my truck even when they are barely cranked. I have a 98 GMC Sonoma with a JVC head unit running 18 watts RMS power and the speakers have plenty of power.

My only complaint is that installing the speakers was very difficult. The supplied mounting bracket was nowhere close to the right size for my truck so I had to re-drill mounts and use those horribly tiny mounting brackets they send you. The speakers are also much taller than stock and push on the door panels slightly. Grill did not even begin to fit.

Overall, though, I would recommend these speakers for anything from a stock head unit to a powerful aftermarket head with an amp. They are a major upgrade I should have done years ago. I plan on putting these speakers in every future car I own.

Power hungry

I bought these speakers and installed them in an 03 avalanche.
I spent all night installing them with a decent 4 ch. kenwood amp pushing them. When I finished they sounded decent but I still heard distortion when I raised the volume to max. The next day I pulled the kenwood and put a pioneer 700 watt 2 ch. amp on them. I kranked the volume all the way up and the sound was incredible. No more distortion and and it is so loud now I want to close my eyes when I turn it all the way up. I won't be turning the volume more than 2/3 of the way up anymore unless I just want to show someone what they can do!

So SICK!

Put these in a friends car and the first day they dont sound very good. No speaker does right out of the box. They take a little breaking in. The next day BOOM! The car is shaking! Especially paired with some sound dampening material these speakers along with the db651 coaxial is just amazing! Really rich highs and very surprising that with just a head unit giving out 52 wats per channel and with no amp the amount of bass is crazy! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Polk Audio db6501

great speaker for the price, Not as good as my Alpine Type R components but did the job

Very clean and crisp

I installed these to replace the stock speakers in my RAV4. It was almost shocking to feel the difference in weight between the light plastic/paper stock speakers and these heavy metal/poly ones. The old crossover was marble size and these ones are more like a deck of cards. I was already impressed.
Installation was easy--I cut out the old tweeters and the new ones flush-mounted into the stock brackets with enough room to put the cross-over behind it. Wiring was simple to strip and tighten in the terminal strip. I had to drill one hole for the mounting bracket in each door but that's not all that bad, all things considered.
I'm still using the stock head unit (this will be fixed soon) and I noticed a huge difference. The stock speakers had a lot more low-end but tended to be very muddy with a lot of definition lost and no staging. These polks have a much more open feeling to them with crisp, well-defined highs and mids and a very neatly defined stage.
My criticisms of these speakers are twofold. First, given the robustness of the rest of the system, the relatively flimsy plastic brackets surprised me. I can't imagine putting real power to a speaker with such a weak support. Second, while the sound is a lot cleaner, it lacks the lower end now. This is a big surprise because the old speakers were 5.25 and these are 6.5 but maybe it's just they are now under powered with the stock HU.
All in all, I'd say this has been a huge improvement and, with more power and/or bass enhancement (think sub), it'll be audiophile level.

Really well made and accurate speaker set up.

Absolutely love these speakers. Bought these for an upgrade on my 2010 Scion tC they fit right in and sound amazing. I have them hooked up to a MB Quart QA1100.5 5 channel amp that was an absolute chore to tune and will be removed shortly but they still sound amazing. They are heavy and sturdy in construction and give adequate wire and extra hardware . the crossovers have a tweeter -3 db, neutral and +3 db setting which is great i suggest playing with that before you seal the x-over box behind something. And the mounting brackets that came with fit my tC without buying aftermarket speaker brackets!

Great! But power hungry!

I bought these speakers for a 2003 Avalanche.
I replaced the factory with these using a decent 4 ch. kennwood amp. I mounted the tweeters flush with the supplied housings. When I was done I was a little disappointed with the sound. When I raised the volume I got distortion. I was sure I just needed more power. The kennwood was probably putting out about 100watts per ch. (it was given to me & wasn't in great condition)
The peak on the 6501's is 300 so I swapped the amp with a pioneer 760 watt 2 ch. I left the gain all the way down and tried it. The sound was incredibly loud! No distortion and I couldn't stand being in the truck with the volume all the way up! I wanted to close my eyes and cover my ears. I read someone's review saying they can't handle power. It's a lie! They can handle it! If you want the most bang for your buck a head unit by its self won't do it. My stereo does 80 x 4 and didn't do the speakers half the justice they deserve.
Keep in mind the location of your tweeters makes a difference. Drill your holes big enough so they are free enough to swivel. If you have to fight them in your holes too small.

phenomenal speakers

Received them as a gift on christmas. I installed them in my jeep grand cherokee. Im using a Phoenix Gold 4-channel amplifier too power the Polk Audio component speakers. Before I had the Polk Audio, I was using Rockford Fosgate coaxial power serieries 6.5 speakers. the Rockford sounded nice but the sound was coming from my knees. The tweeter on the Rockford was not as bright or clear as the Polk Audio but of course due to the fact that the Polk Audio is a component speaker and it has a crossover. I was able to mount the tweeter on my dash so the sound was bouncing off my front windshield making the sound much fuller. the Polk Audio are wonderful speakers they sound amazing. they are the only component speakers I ever had so its hard for me to compare the Polk Audio two other component speakers. But I was debating on the Polk Audio or the infinity component speakers. FYI the crossover is small enough to mount in the door.

db6501

These are the most "natural" sounding speakers I've ever owned. The install in my 96 OBW was super easy and all required hardware was included. I left the crossovers in the small door "pockets" up front so I could adjust the treble +3/nom/-3db, but I found that the nominal setting was fine where it was. I am feeding them 75watts RMS @ 4 ohms via a 4 channel Alpine Amplifier. They are very clear, and very accurate. If you want these speakers to sing, use an outside amplifier as IMO the head unit amp just doesn't have the wattage that these speakers desire. They crank. Totally satisfied with my purchase.

all i can say is u are not going to get a 6.5 that will keep up with these for under $200. i have a v12 old school 75x4 amp on them with the db6.5 coaxials in the back and ththey keep up with my rf t2d412

Great buy for the money. I installed the Polk speakers in my 2001 cadillac DeVille,the 61/2 will fit in the front door but not the rear, had to go with 51/4 and they sound amazing when hook up a 500watt 4ch amp.

Great set of speakers

I bought this set of speakers and the clarity is superb. I put it in a Nissan Pathfinder with the matching db6501 in the rear. Powered off an Alpine MRP-F600 provide more than enough power to drive these speakers. They get loud enough without hurting your ears as long as you set the crossover on -3db. Easy install as well. The only thing I would say is I wasn't too fond of the options of tweeting mounting. I prefer if the tweeter didn't have a housing on it so that I could put just the tweeter in the stock location. Overall DEFINETLY RECOMMEND THESE!

AMAZING SOUND !!!!!

I love the product. I have always wanted to try out some Polk Audio speakers in my car, but never had a reason to. I recently had some Kenwood 6 1/2's and 6X9's and they got the job done, BUT when they finally blew I had a reason to buy these and let me tell you! They are amazing!!!

Great Speakers

When my factory radio, cd player died I decided to update my car stereo and purchased a new cd player with bluetooth. I also purchased a new set of speakers the Polk Audio db651. I have polk Audio speakers on my home stereo and that is why I selected these. I am very happy with the purchase. The sound is crisp and clear great for listening to Jazz and all types of music.

Bought this speakers 8 months ago and all I could say is wow!! Sound is crystal clear! Big difference from stock speakers. Paired this with a cde-102 a ktp-445 and a sub. You have to hook this to an amp to really appreciate this speakers!

Great Clarity and Volume

i have 2 pairs of these components hooked up to an SPL Gorilla 1200 watt 4 channel amp. It is the perfect audio combination. The midwoofers hit amazing mids and the tweeters hit amazing highs that balance with the rest of the sound and they don't leave your ears ringing. I would recommend a subwoofer for the lows, but that may just be my obsession with bass speaking.

Great highs/mids - watch out for the lows

All the reviews are right about the highs/mids - they are awesome. I have the crossover switched in the middle (not - or +) and the treble on my head unit is set pretty flat. You may want to set the switch at -. My VW supposedly used a 6.5 inch driver but when I took the old one out of the car, they were bigger and I lost lows going with this speaker. When i turn up the bass way up on my head unit to compensate, my head unit distorts sooner than it should and I don't get the volume I'm looking for. Maybe an amp is one solution. I have a subwoofer installed as well so I'm okay with the loss of bass. The drivers seem to take a while to break in as well when it comes to the bass. If you don't have an amp or a subwoofer, you might want to look at a lower wattage component set to get the full range easier with head unit power.

Broke these in with 40 watts for a few months, got my new amp and deck and they're now running at 80. I've been in metal bands for quite some time and I can't even handle these guys at full volume. I just got the 6901's in the mail and I'm a little scared...NOT! These speakers by themselves and a Fosgate in the trunk = awesome! Install was easy, fit the speakers in the stock speaker and tweeter locations of a G6 GT with the Monsoon sound system and was able to mount the cross over on the inner side of the door panel. I have it at +-0 now, thinking of going to -3 in the tweeter crossover, they sure are BRIGHT. Would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone looking for a loud and full sounding (if properly amped) component system at a very reasonable price. Polk guy for life.

Great Value!

I ordered this product to replace some stock speakers in my 2004 Tahoe. For some reason, I thought the the speakers would fit right in, but I needed an amp to connect them to. That was a mistake on my part. After having the speakers professionally installed, along with some extras to replace all the speakers in the Tahoe, I am glad the situation played out the way it did. I love the sound quality and everything works perfect with the Polk Audio 12" subwoofers that were installed years ago.

GREAT component speakers for the price!

Great Product

I bought these about 6 months ago and was blown away how good the clarity was when you turned them up on and amp or on an aftermarket cd player. The only draw back I found on it was that I blew one of the tweeters and I know that I didn't exceed the recommended RMS wattage. But hey I play my music loud for long periods of time, and maybe they needed a break lol. Overall I definitely would recommend these.

Decent speaker set

I bought these speakers to put in the rear of my Honda Del Sol. The woofers fir in the OEM brackets though I had to drill a matching hole pattern. No biggie there. Figuring out where to put the tweeters were another issue. I am always hesitant to put holes where there were none before. To that end, I ended up buying a used set of panels that hold the OEM trim and drilled holes in them for the flush mount option. This put them pointed at about the shoulder.

Actually installing the tweeters was a bit challenging. Popping the tweeters into the flush mount housing required an extraordinary amount of force and I slightly dented the grill on both units. Once they are in, good luck on trying to utilize the swivel feature to aim them, They aren't moving.

I am running a Kenwood KDC-HD545U CD Receiver which provides a fair amount of options for sound levels. Sitting still, I can make the system sound real nice. With the top off and windows down, I start losing the bass and if I crank too hard to get it back, the highs start getting tinny. A small sub might help the issue but if you are familiar with this car, there just isn't a lot of room to work with.

For a typical installation, I figure they would be real nice, providing a lot of sound without a lot of power. The Kenwood unit is rated at 22 watts nom and will seems to do ok as long as you don't crank it up incredibly high. At lower volumes, you can tweak the controls to provide a good range of sound without losing clarity.

I would consider these for a regular hard top car but would steer somewhere else if I had to upgrade a convertible or targa again.

Weeeeee these sound amazing!!

Put these on my Eclipse EA 4200 running only 60 watts RMS per channel and they absolutely scream! It is almost comical how great these sound even at the highest volume levels. I couldn't have asked for better sounding components for the price :o)

got these today installed them great mids and highs running them off an old xm503 amp with 2 4x6 db651 and 2 8" kicker subs on a mtx amp this combo rocks

Loud and clean

Bought 2 sets for my sons ski boat, he had clarion prior to these. He has them amped at 80 watts and they sound great. Service from Sonic was fantastic, very fast and exactly what they said.

Super value for the money.

I have had Polk audio speakers before so I figured I buy this pair for my CRV. I was looking at speakers that were at least three times the cost and almost bought them but the car is older and didn't want to spend too much on them. I have been amazed at how good these speakers sound. They have plenty of base and good treble and mid-range. These speakers are crystal clear. I highly recommend them.

Broken lead

i have had these for about a year and they worked great. they sound good but require an amp. they worked great until one of the tinsel leads broke. the tinsel leads go through the spider so not easy to repair. just replaced them with some cheap autotek atx6.5cx that sound just as good but need less power and cost less.

These speakers sound great. but they could definatly use a amplifier dont get me wrong they sound perfectly fine off the headunit but to make em shine get a amp.. good price for a quality speaker!!

Good Speakers

Reasonably priced and sound really good, even at loud volume. Clear highs and mids, decent lows. Also was able to fit these in the stock locations which previously had 5.25 set. Would buy again.

Great speakers, great price

Ordered a pair of these 2 years ago to replace blown OEMs in the front. The rear OEMs finally gave out so I'm buying another pair. Quality and ease of install added to great sound from a well-known company made this a complete no-brainer. Sonic Electronix was great then (price and service) so, of course, I came back. Next, a new head unit.

Good Speakers

I put these in my 2002 Subaru WRX. They are powered with the deck and sound good. I'm assuming they'll sound much better when I install my amp. I've heard better component systems, but not for this price. A built in crossover would be the only thing I could ask for. I replaced a pair of 6.5" Pioneers and the OEM factory tweeters. What a difference!

I got this set about 5 or so months ago. I really like mine, works perfect with my system. Real clear over the bass. I also have the polk component set and love them. Also works really good with loud systems.

Very Good - but spring for the MM6501

I currently own both the DB6501 and MM6501. I had the DB first set up in the front of my '07 Pathfinder, then I ordered the MM's and replaced the DB's (the MM's went in the front and the DB's were moved to the rear). All I can say is that the difference was night and day. I was very happy with the DB's so if you are on a limited budget then don't shy away from them, but I will wholeheartedly say that if you are on the fence between the two series that you should definately spring for the MM's. The difference from DB to MM is 'almost' as big as going from factory to the DB's! In the end, VERY happy with my 100% Polk set up, all being driven by a Rockford 551x 4 channel amp.

Polk db6501 in a Jeep Wrangler

I had recently put a pair of db521's in my overhead soundbar, but they just weren't loud enough while driving down the road with the top down. Then I read that the sub portion of the db6501 would fit within the hole in the soundbar that was originally made for a 5-1/4" speaker. The 6-1/2" sub fits perfectly without any cutting. Then I was able to easily install the tweeter and crossover on the surface of the soundbar. I only had to drill a couple of small holes for the wires and screws. I then moved the db521's up to the dash location, although this required some cutting and a new metal mounting bracket. I also added an Alpine MRP-M500 amp to power the whole thing. It all sounds great, but it's still a Jeep. It's hard to find something that will sound awesome at 70 mph with the top down. But this is the best I've found so far. Especially for the price.

Happy after six months

Bought these six months ago and installed in a 2004 Avalanche after my daughter blew the stock ones. Installation wasn't bad. Had to drill a little bigger hole for the tweeters. Also had a make a spacer for the woofers to have them seal tightly against the door panel. Used Velcro to attach the box inside the door frame so I wouldn't have to drill new holes. Was able to use existing covers so you would never know they weren't original equipment. Sounds great. Clearer at louder volumes than the stock speakers and my daughter hasn't blown these!

polk db651

I have used these speakers with and without an amp. They sound much better with than without. I think polk makes an excellent product and I would recommend them to anyone.

These speakers are my latest puchase from Polk. I've had four other occasions to buy speakers from Polk and have come to believe they represent excellent value for the price paid.

Two sets of these particular speakers were installed in my boat with an amp and sub-woofer. Even the installation guys were impressed with the audio quality (I think they are tough to impress). In any case, they sound great to me and I'd recommend them to a friend.

best bang for your buck

installed these in the front doors of my dakota quad cab with a set of kenwoods in the rear doors. have a 8in sub behind the rear passenger seat. Polks and sub are amp driven and kenwoods are deck driven. Honestly...don't really even need the sub. The polks deliver comparable response imo. Wish I would have put another set of 6501s in the rear and forgot the sub. great speakers!

Polk Audio db651

I really likes these speakers, I put them in a golf cart, speakers were exposed to the elements and held up fine. Sounded great and looked great!

All round good speakers

One thing to note is that the DB651s do not come with mounting brackets as they are the slim version. With the DB651 however, they are included in the box. Overall the speakers are great. It's definitely not a very 'bassy' speaker, I would more compare it more towards a set of studio monitors, providing clear/clean sound.

I had the Polk's installed in a 2001 Cadillac DeVille. The front door has the 61/2, but the rear doors will only fit the 51/4. Once I installed the 500watt 4ch amp to them and now they sound AMAZING. Thanks Sonic.

Good sound & great value

Installed 6 months ago to replace the oem crappy front speakers on 2011 Hyundai Tucson Ltd. Sound quality improved a lot. Easy good fit installation with the accessories provided, but the simple manual does not help. The good looking grill covers cannot be used which is a waste. I got a good deal/bargin from Sonic, cheaper than I buy locally in Canada even with all the shipping, handling costs.
In addition, I feel the Polk Audio db651 sounds even better than the Infinity ref 6032si I installed in the rear doors.
Highly recommended at this price range.

Okay speakers

Lets me start by stating these are my first set of Polk's. I was debating between these and some Infinity Reference component or Kappa Coax. I have them in a 98 Accord being pushed with 75 watts RMS. Overall they sound good but not as expected. Mid bass is ok. Maybe I am dreaming but I really thought they would sound better. The amp also pushes a set of Kenwood 5 way 6x9's on the rear deck. The Kenwoods totally blow these away...maybe because they are 95 db vs 91 or 92 on the Polk's. Basically the Kenwoods are twice as loud. I have to compensate by turning gain all the way up on the Polks and to about half on the Kenwood's, then set the fader to F 3 or 4 to get a decent soundstage. Problem is then my Kenwoods are way under utilized. I dont have a sub yet so the 6x9's provide the bass in my setup, hard to do when you cant push the speaker or all you hear is sound coming from behind you...This is not something I expected when I was shopping. All things equal I bet the Infiniti's would be louder as they are 2 ohm so they would be sucking 100 watts RMS out of my amp. Just some food for thought...I probably should have thought of this when shopping but, oh well, I didn't. Once I get a sub I hope to tune to a sound that makes me completely happy. Till then...

i have these speakers in my 07 impala with the polk audio 6x9s,first off polk audio dont bs. i had both pair playn off my factory radio with factory tweets and man my car sounded just lik my sudio room but not as loud .then i also added 2 pairs of kicker 1/2 inch tweets a pair in the factory spot in front and a pair on the back panels with a kicker 350.4 amp powering all 8 speakers now my car sounds like a concert. this mix is the best i promise.everybody at my school including my teachers and principal. i paid around $800 for this set up and im not stressing about it. this web site is killn the store prices if u can aforde my set up do it. 100% positive your getn the feed back u want everywere u go!

Excellent product

Installed these in my fj cruiser front and rear and the sound quality rocks! Clear, crisp highs with some really tight midrange. Can't beat it for the price! Compliments the 2 JL audio 10's I have for bass.

Not very happy, but fair enough for a decent sound system

This component has an excellent tweeter performance, but drivers lack of sound pressure and sound quality as well. Good only for well endowed amplifiers, but expect no much.

Cons: 1. One speaker's surround is messed up... It looks like the seal on the frame didn't completely seal. So the surround was dented a little. It still works, but I'll be keeping everything in case it rips or something. I don't know who to blame for that, but since shipping took way too long I'm not going to return it til it breaks.
2. OEM install of the tweeter is impossible in a Scion xA... but what can ya do?

Other: If you get a perfect pair of these, you can't go wrong. They are great for the price. I have them on 45RMS each and they get loud and have great bass! Definitely would recommend them.

Good speakers for the money

I have yet to amp these and am running them off my Pioneer AVIC-X920BT double din HU and I am very pleased with them. Clear sound with a nice wide range of sound. Bass isn't that crazy but with any component a sub is ideal. Highs and mids are great. I would buy again. These are my only speakers in my 370z and the sound is fantastic even without an amp or subs. Two thumbs up.

Polk 651

These are a nice upgrade from the one-way speakers that were in the sound bar in my '08 Jeep. They fill out the spectrum well and, with a sub-woofer, you get a nice, full range. Excellent bang for your buck. The adapter ring (included) is needed so be prepared for a little drilling.

Extremely disappointed

I purchased from a local electronic's store.....less than a week, speaker is already cutting in and out. I am an electrician and I determined it was a bad solder joint to the voice coil on the woofer. I hope Polk honors their warranty. I will update this review based on their response.

Very nice coaxial for the price

Great coaxial, for the price. Good sound. Plays much cleaner than the factory speakers that I replaced. Not as much bass, however, so you'll probably want a subwoofer.

I have 5 sets of Polk Audio speakers on my boat, 2 sets of 6x9s, 2 sets of 6.5s and the last set added was the components. And the components are just as good as the 6x9s. In fact by next summer the 6.5s will be replaced with 2 sets of components.

Did not work for me

I bought these hoping to get the same kind of sound as my Polk monitor 70's I have at home. This did not happen. These are the first Polk speakers for car audio I have ever owned I and I am a little disappointed. It is more my style of listening that make these speakers not work, I like it loud! My problem with the polks is the tweeters get over saturated quick at high volumes and cut off. That really bothers me on a good song.
Long story short, they won't work for me.

Good deal

Picked these up because my stock speakers had gone out. Great replacements, only issue I am having is that my driver side speaker and tweeter have disconnected once already. I'll have to go back in there and solder them so they don't come apart again. Great speakers for the money, don't really need to use the Xover to boost the db's. Especially if you have a stock stereo. I would suggest these with an aftermarket stereo, EQ, and and a couple amps. One for your mids and highs, and an amp for your sub. Will be buying another set soon to set up the rear doors.

Bad A** Speakers

I am a big fan of Sonic Electronix. I will always purchase my car audio from them. That being said. These speakers are very nice. I put them in my 02 Dakota and for only being 6 1/2s they really are very full sounding. I highly recommend these speakers and Sonic Electronix.

have a set of these in my 2004 350z, front are component and rears are coaxial. they are being powered by a JL 500/4 they sound amazing. they're not too loud, have good midrange and are very clear. sounds like what the bose should have sounded like.

Sound Great

My buddy heard my Polk Mobile Monitor separates and wanted me to put some speakers in his truck. I put these in the doors and the matching 4 x 6s in the dash. While I was putting away my tools, I could hear him cranking his radio. I looked into the truck and he was grinning from ear to ear. I told him they would sound even better once they were broken in.

good cheap upgrade over stock

These were the first real set of component speakers i have ever owned. They are good overall speakers for a normal cheap upgrade and please run them off an amp. Any amp would do. So if you are on a budget or just looking for a cheap upgrade over stock i would say get these speakers. If you can spend a bit more look at their MM line they sound pretty good.

Polk db6501 review

I was looking for a decent set of 6.5 components for my trusty 2002 Subaru WRX. The problem with my Subie is very shallow doors. I chose the Polks as the best speakers that would actually fit in my doors. Mostly I listen to classic rock, and the Polks are great for that. They have a balanced, smooth sound that is good for most music. They do produce good (but not great) bass, much more than my doors can handle. The only music I find they can't handle is very mid-bass heavy groups, such as MGMT. On such music the speakers bottom out and end up sounding like crap. This problem can be reduced by drastically altering the EQ, but that has drawbacks, too. These speakers are probably best for most rock, jazz, and even classical. I am not sure they would hold up for hip hop and rap.

Excellent speakers

The speakers will amaze you at how good they are for the price. I am currently running these off an aftermarket deck and they sound phenomenal.

The highs are crisp and not too harsh, and the mids to mid-lows are punchy and full. No regrets at all.

Excellent Sound

Installed these in the rear doors of my 2011 Maxima together with 3 way matching units in the front (db651). Very dramatic improvement in both bass and high frequencies and the overall "open" and clear sound typical of Polk speakers. Very pleased with the improvement for the relatively low cost. Installation took me a morning due to havng to drill the door panel with a holes saw for the tweeters and needing to install the crossover. There are no harness plugs for this vehicel.

Good system

I'm not an audiophile but this system was a lot better than the stock system that came with the car. Many people recommended these speakers for use with Honda CRV's (which I have), had no drama with the install and cannot fault it.

Good for those wanting a bit of bass without requiring a subwoofer. I can't remember what I paid, but I'm usually on the lookout for a bargain, or at least top value.

Now in my car the side door speakers are just mid bass but i went ahead and got coaxial because components wouldn't have fit. Anyways the are loud, decent mid bass, great tweets, cant wait to hook up a amplifier.

WARNING: when i was installing the 3/4 bracket didn't fit, and it was made for my car. i made some adjustments and got the speakers to go in without the bracket but do note it will not fit dodge neon !

Great Speakers

I installed 4 of these in my Jeep, powereed with a 200w amp and they are loud and have a very clear sound. Definitely a great value. I have yet to test their 'marine' capabilities.

Definately an upgrade!

I bought these to replace some worn out Sony components, and I have been very happy ever since! The tweeters are crisp and clear, the woofers almost kick as well as my 6x9's in the back! A very good product that would be helped greatly with an amplifier. I had to use double-sided tape and super glue to hold in my tweeters, and had to drill new holes in my door panels, as the woofers use 4 screws (my door panels had 3). Overall, I am very happy with these!

Nothing is better than having you speakers amplified! The clearity of sound increases significantly. I think for the money, these polks are the best on the market. Reputable company and a great product line. I have two Of the speakers in the back coupled with Polk 6x9 version that handles the same wattage in the front. Rockford Fosgate R400 amp sending 75 watts to each speaker. Had these speakers for about 4 years now and I've had a couple blow from cranking up the volume a little to much but they are cheap enough to replace every couple of years so it's no big deal. Definitely recommend!

Decent speaker

The speakers offer little to no bass but that wasn't a huge problem considering I have 2 rockford p3's. these speakers however do not offer a lot of mids either. The highs do get very loud though. Maybe if I would've amped them up that would've help with the mids. I've had the speakers for about 3 months and they are starting to rattle. However that is after turning them up to 35 (on a 60 volume scale) but most aftermarket speakers should be able to do that with ease. I'm not sure how these sound with an amp. But if you are not looking to amp these up and you have a sub that puts out pretty good bass.. These are not the way to go.

Pretty decent

I purchased these a week ago, and put them in my car yesterday. I ran the factory amp to both, the 6 1/2"s and the tweeters, not even using the crossover assembly. There is a lot of high frequency and mids now with these speakers. I had to turn down the treble and mid range on my radio to half way. WOW! As far as the sound, they blow my stock Clarion speakers out of the water. Yes, I'll stick with Polk Audio. :D

Nice sounding speaker

These speakers are very impressive. Very clear sound with decent bass on head unit. HOWEVER If you choose to install an amp with these speakers, you will be rewarded with clarity AND bass. My system has these two speakers and one 8" Infinity woofer with a 1600 watt amp. Installed with one speaker per channel and bridge the other channels to the sub. Awesome sound. Great speakers !!!

Great Speakers!

These are one of the best speakers you can buy without getting into components or needing to run an amp to them to make them loud. They are very crisp and have no distortion when the music is up louder. I would definitely buy these speakers again.

wonderfull if you amp them

these things are the perfect componet systme if you amp them if you dont they will soun d like stock factory speakers. but when you even put a small amp behind them. they are dead on and are so accuarate. just perfect i have two sets of them in a single cab truck, not needed but i just cant get enough of them. you wont be unsatisfied with these things.

37 coupe. Small cockpit but big sound. In conjunction with a 60 RMS Kenwood amp and an Infinity basslink. iPod as head unit, GLI, volume control knob, and Y splitters into the amp and basslink. Couldn't be happier.

Polk 6/9 Audio Speakers

I ordered the 6/12 speakersfor my Harley. This product is so Awsome, The quality of the speakers,the durability of the product is just amazing, I'm riding at speeds of 75 to 80 miles an hour. It sounds like i'm sitting in den at home listening to my surround sound speakers. Very satisfied. Order actually arrived before delivery date. Completely saitsfied with speakers. I would definetly arder again from this company.

Best 6.5" components

I own 4 pairs of these speakers. I have one pair on my ATV and it was the first pair I purchased. I also have 3 pairs on my boat that will make your ears bleed. Nice bump from the bass and clear highs. I have a 6 channel JL XD amp running them at 1 pair per channel 4ohms @ 75w rms. They can handle 100 RMS easy. I have all the gains set at a couple notches above half way. Probably 60% gain, I would say. I would definitely recommend this product. They are of great quality and Marine certified. The external crossovers are nice too. Their price is an added bonus. I personally wouldn't buy the mobile monitors that are $200 a pair. these are just as good.

Excellent Sound!

I replaced the factory speakers in my Correct Craft Super Air Nautique Team Edition wakeboarding boat. Sounds awesome! The sound is way better than any of the speakers that I tried out at the local stereo shops and I saved a pile of money by buying them through Sonic Electronix.

Wicked set of speakers

As a Canadian, I was looking for the best deal shopping in Canada for these component sets. My first quote was $279 CDN, next quote from C********* for $220 CDN, then went to Ebay and found these through Sonic for $99!! Even with the shipping I was still ahead of the game. Anyhow, so I decided to buy 2 sets of components for my 2000 Jetta. I replaced my existing stock speakers with these, juiced them with a 5 channel Alpine PDX-5 amp at about 120 Watts per channel and they are nothing short of incredible. Sweet, silky highs and great mid range. The fifth channel on the amp is a dedicated mono channel for a 10" nakamichi sub and my HU is an Alpine X001 connected to my ipod.

The only thing during installation, I couldn't use the provided spacers, I had to buy those separately.

The only negative I can say is I have to be so cautious with my hearing. I'm finding, with no distortion at loud levels, and such incredible dynamic range, I'm always cranking my stereo up to dangerous levels.

For this price you simply can't go wrong!

AMAZING

I am a huge Polk fan- always have been! And these speakers live up to my expectations! I have had Kicker speakers before, and I have also had JL speakers too. I have to say- they are right up there with the best. The Highs are smooth and pristine, the mids are just right, and the lows are tight and smooth. I love em!

Good speakers, kit contains a conversion ring which is nice. Sound is very clear up to about 1/2 of my radio's volume then distorts. This is because I do not have an amp and not the fault of the speakers at all. I would definitely recommend these as a budget replacement to door speakers, but they definitely need an amp.

Polk Audio db651

I recently bought a second set of these speakers to go in the front of my truck cab. I have to say that for the price they are great. I would recommend them to anyone that wants a clear high end sound without distortion. The tweeter in the middle sticks out a bit more than a normal speaker of this type but that doesn't make the speaker any less great.

Crisp and clean

I installed these in the rear of a RAV4. This was an upgrade from a single 5.25 inch paper cone mid to this coaxial comp. The difference is amazing. The factory speakers were very muddy and unfocused, with undefined sound and no staging. These Polks have beautiful definition and staging and give my back seat guests access to nuances in the music they didn't have before.
Installation was easy- I was able to simply connect the supplied leads to the stock wiring and thread it through a hole in the door panel. Physical installation required me to drill an extra hole for the one screw in each door for the mounting bracket. The speed clips worked fine for this and installation overall was quite easy.
My gripe are few. The brackets dont seem that robust, especially compared to the beefy construction of the speakers themselves. This would be an easy place for Polk to step up a bit. Second, unlike the matching 6501 component set , there is no way to drop the treble off on these. It would be nice to be able to match them to the fronts since this is likely a common combination. Third, I'm a little surprised by the loss of bass, given that I upgraded from a smaller speaker to a larger one. I'm still using the stock HU so maybe that plays a role, as does the fact that the bass is so much tighter now, but I do feel like there's something missing at the low-end now.
All in all, I'd highly recommend these speakers.

DB651 (not the slimline speaker)

After doing plenty of research I decided to install these in my 99 Toyota tacoma Xtracab. Was looking for a bit better power handling 2 way speaker and these filled the order quite well.

Pros: Excellent power handling speaker with plenty of highs and lows and the materials to handle high output with clarity.

Cons; These are not a direct bolt in into a 99 Toyota Tacoma Xtracab, you will have to do some modifying, but not much. Not really a Con per say, as I knew I would have to modify before the purchase.

solid speakers!

I settled on this pair of components due to price and quality balance! They sound great, and I love the component features. Great representation of all range of sound, especially bass. Have owned those for around a year and enjoying them so far! I had to make custom brackets to mount those, but that's just was my idea for very solid installation and sound proofing.

Clean smooth speakers

Bought the pair after comparing several other brands like kicker, infinity, alpine and other well known brands. Well this speaker set has smooth highs, not harsh like other ones. The speaker looks well built and comes with alot of extras for mounting the tweeters. The mid bass is not as strong , but thats why you get good 6x9s in the back. I have 90 watts RMS running on each speaker. YOU REALLY NEED AN AMP to run these to there full potential. If not they just sound like any other speaker set. Polk Audio has been doing home and car audio for a LONG TIME. So don't hesitate and buy these speakers.

Bought this for a RV and I have to say WOW. The Bass this things put and good. I have two pair and the amp is a Hifonics-TXi-6408-R-B. The highs and lows sound great. The lows are great too. I would tell any one to buy these.

This component set is too true to hear. The highs tweeters are very clear and crisp you won't mess a tone. The midbass 6-1/2 woofers are very nice, they're not deep bass, but they push very nice clean bass that is good for a component system.

Great all in one amp

This amp is fantastic, power is true as advertised and the sub section is stable to 1 ohm. It's really tiny and fits perfectly under the seat of my 2013 Mazda CX-5. I have it running off an audiocontrol LC6i and powering my OEM speakers for now and a single 12" MB Quart PS3 sub at 4 ohms. I get a clean, noise free signal from my factory head unit. Everything on the amp seems solid, and it's marine certified so you can use it in a jeep or a boat as well. It is capable of running all 5 channels off a single pair of RCA's if needed which makes installation very flexible. The included bass boost knob is great and there is a green light on it that is on when the amp is on. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and would definitely buy this amp again.

Go Polk

I have never been disappointed with any speakers I've bought from Polk. These 6-3/4" went in the doors of my firebird and fit great. They are powered by 50w pioneer head unit and seem to be getting enough power for my purposes, but more never hurts!

In the hatch I have 2 RF 6x9's in ported boxes and amped 100w to each. This has a good stage for music; clean mids and sharp highs up front from the smaller polks, and more low end presence from the back 6x9s.

These are awesome for the price and they're marine certified so they should hold up fine to being swung around inside the doors, exposed to weather.
Low end Hz are somewhat disappointing, at least in my setup, but match these with subs and it would have awesome range.

Great Budget Speakers

I purchased 2 sets of these along with a set of Polk db351's for my dash. These were installed in a 2004 Trailblazer EXT and I have to say that they offer way more than I anticipated in terms of sound quality. I have the 4 651's attached to about 80w rms and the 351's running off of my head unit (17w rms).

I had a set of cheaper coax's previously and there is no comparison between those and these. They look great, feel sturdy, and perform way better than I thought they would. I would absolutely buy these again and would recommend them to anyone looking for speakers in this price range.

Through many communications with them and verifying on Polk's website, these do handle 100w rms per speaker. Even better deal for 65 bucks!!!

Solid Performer

Purchased these Polk db651's to replace the stock Clarion speakers on my boat and am very happy with them. They sound good and play very loud. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a budget speaker. I will probably replace with the MM series at the end of the summer, as have added an amp and have Polk MM650UM's in speaker cans. Overall very happy with these speakers and all of my Polk products.

As all the Polk coaxial's, these have a nice clear sound from the silk dome tweeter and plenty of bass. But putting the amp on them is the only way to fully appreciate their sound.

2nd set of these, highly recommended!

I started with replacing the factory door speakers in my 2001 Golf TDI 2 door and at that time I also installed Dynamat in the doors and along the rear side panels. WOW. Huge difference is hearing the sound at all levels.
Of course I then had to order another pair to replace the factory rear speakers. Again a very noticeable improvement in sound texture and quality. Very satisfied with the Polk Audio db651 product and with SonicElectronix.com for their low prices and fast shipping.

Excellent product!

I am running these with a Sony CDX M60UI, a pair of db521s and a Bazooka 8" passive sub. The sound is wonderful. Very crisp highs and soft lows. I have heard that they sound even better with an amp. Not much room in my little boat to mount an amp, but these sound so good, I really don't need one. With a 92dB sensitivity rating, a few watts will give you great sound. I would recommend these to anyone.

Best bang for the buck

Bought these speakers to replace the 4 OEM speakers in my 1999 Toyota Tacoma xtra cab. Fitting in the factory location requires the scoshe adapter plates #SAC-656, and a bit of work, but they will go into place behind the OEM grills. Compared to my OEM speakers, they sound great for a 2 way speaker. Thanks for the excellent customer service SE!!

These speakers are great once you give them some juice! you wont like them directly off of the hu though. They lack any mid range when not amped. Presently feeding 75 watts per channel and they have come alive!

love these speakers. Sooooo much clearer. Rear honda speakers were muddy and no clarity. The imaging coming from the back is more pronounced now. Tweeters are crisp and bass is tight. i may amplify these later with a four channel amp, 2 channels for the rear and bridge the other 2 for a sub. Totally happy!

I bought these for my Audi A6 and they fit perfectly. Running them off an mbquart amp and they outperform the bose audio I had, and I only replaced the front two door speakers. They get loud and have good highs. Get an amp for these.

These speakers were relatively cheap compared to other in its class.
The high end performance out of these speakers is unmatched but need to produce a little more bass. If you have a sub complementing these speakers, they are well worth the money. Polk is a world class organization and produce products that fall in line with their reputation. Enjoy!!

great sound for low price

I have them in a 08 scion xb and they are great for highs and mids they do great with my pioneer 3200 bt along with a alpine type r 12 I would recommend to any who want better door speaker than factory at low price.

Good for the $

I have these in my front doors and they sound great. Be aware that these work well with a nice clear signal. I didn't appreciate these until I got a new deck with pre-outs that send the signal to the amp at 4v. They now have a near audiophile quality after tuning them.

Fantastic component speakers at a low price

These speakers pack a punch and don't give up. They handle high amplified volume with ease. I purchased 4 2 front and 2 rear, I've had them for 4 months now and sound better than when I first installed them. Great adjustable highs and the woofers pack a punch. good speakers, but incorrect rating

Put 4 of these in my toyota matrix, since they're really shallow they fit pretty well without much additional adjsutment in the car. They sound good too, i went with these over infinity kappas since it showed they were 100 RMS each and figured i'd save a little money and try these since they seemed better. I installed them with the amp I purchased. After a week 2 of them are already crackling pretty bad. I'm pretty upset that I pretty much just threw out money. BUT, this is not to say these speakers aren't nice, they're great. Shipping was, as always, fast from Sonic Electronix.

Cheap and sound that way

I would not recommend these for listening to spoken word, news or talk radio. Music they sound fine, but otherwise these suck. I will be replacing them.

Small Amp with lots of power!

I got this as a gift to replace another 5ch amp not worth mentioning (CEA rated amps are really worth getting). Enough power to run 2 sets of Polk db6501 components and 2 10" Polk MM subs in a 1.2ci sealed box. Just make sure to tune your amp and you'll get loud clean distortion free music out of this little thing. I would highly recommend this if you're in the market for a 5ch amp.

Not a bad set of speakers but wanted matching front/rear, and they 651s was too deep in front for my application. Had these installed for just a month or so, but was overall quite happy with them- EXCEPT- they were very bright. Had to have a lot of high end cut to make my ears not bleed.

I have purchased these to upgrade the audio in my 1982 Dodge, and am very pleased with the result. I am driving them directly from the head unit, and also have a pair of Kicker 6x9s that I drive from an amp. The two seem to work together quite well. The Polk has a slightly more refined sound while the Kicker has a little bit of an edge, but together they sound great.

They like power

I am running only 45 x 4 amp, so at lower volume levels there's not much mid and bass. For someone looking to replace stock speakers and keep original headunit, keep this in mind. At higher volumes, they sound great and apparently can handle plenty of power. With my system I can't listen to music loud enough to get them to distort.

These speakers are crystal clear with no destortion, even at high volumes. i installed these in a 2006 monte carlo SS Silver, these went in the door panel. These polks blew away my stock speakers away. so clear, and clean, for the price its a bargain.

Love my polk

I got this set about 5 or so months ago. I really like mine works perfect with my system, real clear over the bass. I also have the polk component set and love them, also works really good with loud systems.

These Polks we use heavily at our shop, they have a good sound and decent midbass, the perform well with after market head-units/receivers. for best sound thogh a proper component set is always better.

Also, Polk Tweeters, though Silk Dome, are notorious for being "harsh" that's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just their sound signature.

Hybrid audio makes some great coaxials that are worth every penny, but with any good speaker setup you should amp the speakers.

They work well with my 1000 watt amp. The only thing, the built-in tweeters can not handle the power. The tweeters sounds distorted when I turn my volume up over 28. Its better for me to have component speakers. But otherwise the mid range speakers itself sound good when I turn the tremble down. I would recommend these as a starter for a econmic buy.

Great for a boat

I installed 2 sets of these speakers in my 21 foot open bow boat with a Rockford Punch 200-2. These things get loud and clear and the
bass is really good if mounted where there is a compartment behind them. Out of the box highs are a little harsh but acceptable and can be toned down if your head unit has the capability. I did a some adjusting and i am impressed with how good they sound. I plan on adding another set.......soon! Get these you won't be disappointed!!!! I gave them 3 stars on durability because i just installed them and the grill has some spacing as far as protection.

Mids and Highs Good...

For whatever reason I did not have any bass with these speakers in the doors of my 2005 Hyundai Elantra. The factory junkers had better bass. However, if you are using a subwoofer they will sound nice.

These speakers are great for the price. They have excellent mids and highs. I have 2 pairs for front and back and powered by a old school kicker amp which gives them about 65w rms each. They get very loud and don't distort very easily. For the price I would definitely recommend them.

Ridiculously Good Deal

A bit short for most vehicles maybe. I used it in an extended cab truck and it was actually perfect for my install.

The price on these is beyond compare. I would recommend to keep them routed away from the power source as they're not overly insulated. Although on a bass install, doesn't matter at all.

Amazing if you have subs

A combination of these door speakers, Polk Audio 6'9" in the rear deck, and 2 15" MTX subs in the trunk sounds absolutly amazing. These speakers have a very very loud high end. Like if a high pitch sound plays, you risk a chance of busting your ear drums!! So i turned the high end down just a bit, and a combination of that, and the subs makes for a 10/10 sound system.

My set up is a simple consisting of a pioneer head unit, jbl gto 1004 amp, and polk momo (mm1240) subwoofer. The excel in both the department i.e. sound quality and sound pressure level.
I was surprise to see that this speaker sounds great without any distortion, secondly the build quality is upto the mark. The sound quality was good not on par with the momo series.
Cons: As compare to the polk momo subwoofer I found that this speaker were not keeping up to my expectation.

World of difference in a Zuk !

Replaced stock very cheap, tinny rear door speakers, 6 1/2", in 2009 Suzuki SX4 Crossover and am very, very satisfied. Had NO bass before and the extra benefit is the very crisp midrange now as well. Snipped connector plastic off of old speakers, snipped wires at cone and soldered to the tabs on the new ones, so still have a plugable design; necessary to drill my own holes for mounting and these are a perfect fit for the door panel ! This Zuk is easy to work on. And your prices are great !

Good bang for your buck!

I purchased these along side the DB691. I powered them first by an aftermarket head unit, then a mediocre under-powered amp, and finally by an Alpine amp more suited towards the RMS ratings of this speaker. In all three setups these speakers were leaning more on the 'bright' side. However, after a month of appropriately powering them with the Alpine amp they finally started to break in and sounded a lot more full. Even though they sounded a little better than right out of the box, there's still a lack of mid-bass. As long as you have a sub in your setup you should be good to go! Overall, I'd say these are a great bang for your buck!

Great amp, clean sound, compact

In Toyota king cab pickup, mated to NVX door and rear speakers and Kicker loaded 10" (dual 2 ohm driver) sub that fits nicely behind driver. Once frequency crossovers were properly tuned and levels adjusted--wow! Great sound--Rock, funk, jazz (horns, cymbals, real drums, etc). Tight punchy bass, nice ringing highs with low distortion. I rewired the sub from 4 to 1 ohm to take full advantage of the amp, and limited the voltage to ensure my kids don't blow the speaker!

Instruction manual is weak--needs better section on proper amp setup. When you plug in the Subwoofer level adjust, you need to turn it up to 50% or so to begin to hear anything. Or, first leave it unplugged from the amp, set your max levels, then plug it in. If the adjuster is left turned all the way down (as mine came) you'll get NO SOUND out of the subwoofer channel. Neither the Polk nor the SonicE tech's knew to do this during our "debug" sessions! Silly, in hindsight. 3 stars for durability only because I haven't had it long enough to know.

I payed damn near twice this price, mostly becuase it was near 3 years ago, and from a retail store. but none the less, the speakers perform as though they $150+ speakers, like noted before they only can truly be appreciated with an amp, I have them powered by an eclipse EA4000, 75 watts a speakers rms, EXCEPTIONALLY sharp highs, and i mean SHARP,and not to bright. once they are tuned right, they sound amazing, I have 4 of them, and 2 in the door and 2 on the back behind my seat's that use the trunk as a bass tube to give it a little more thump, with the bass turned up, and the low's turned right, they hit so nice you'd swear their was an 8" sub back their.

Great Speakers 4 Great Price

I have an 02 Honda Accord 4 door. Installed the Polk db651's in my front doors. For the first 3 months they were powered by 50 watt rms per channel head unit and sounded great. I planned on putting an amp on them from the beginning, but didn't, due to financials. After a few months I purchased and then installed a West Clast Customs 1600.4 amp (also purchased from sonicelectronix - $100 - free shipping - Great price for Great amp). Without an amp the db651's were already really crisp and clear, even at higher volumes. I didn't think they could get much better, but with more power and better tuning ability, the Polk db651's SOUND EVEN MORE AWESOME. Needless to say I would def buy these again. As a surprise for Christmas, I am planning on replacing all 4 of my wife's speakers in her 2011 Honda Fit with al db651's. Thanks Polk and Thanks Sonicelectronix.

Polk Audio DB651 Speakers sounding great in boat after 6 months

I put the Polk Audio DB651 Speakers in to replace some 8 year old speakers. They sit exposed, but under shade on the center console of my boat in the Florida sun. They sounded great day 1 with nice tight bass, clear mid-range, and bright highs. I listen to a wide range of music and I'm pleased with the sound. If you are looking for head banging bass, you'll need to add a subwoofer. For me, they were reasonably priced, durable, and sound great.

These sound great!

These speakers are just about the best around. The 1" tweeter gives you that high end boost that you always need. Before I bought these, my Sony speakers were being drowned out by subwoofers, now I have a clear crisp sound coming throughout my car. If you are looking for reasonably priced great speakers then these are for you. One of the flaws in Polk's design is that the cool looking grills that you see in the picture won't fit in most cars. I really didn't care about the grills after I heard them for the first time though. These speakers are great for any type of music whether it is rock, hip hop, or even classical. They give you a great sound in any environment.

This is the best 6.5 component set I have ever owned. Almost bought jl or rf till I heard a friends unamped setup. I have 60 Watts to each side and the tweets at- 3db and they are beautiful sounding speakers. The tweets are heavy and very accurate no tinny sound. The crossover is high quality and easy to install. Seamless split of sound. The woofers are very well made and sound excellent with more bass than expected. Heavy and good quality speaker wire also and the adapter plates are strong and I used them.

I just installed this woofer along with a 500 watt mono block and man I couldn't be happier! For the price this thing sounds great. Polk quality is legendary

I bought these to replace a set of DXi's that my wife abused, but they still lasted 3 years. Due to the design of the rear metal basket, they are the only speakers that can fit into the housing on my S2000 without modification. They do a great job, I only hate that their good looks have to be covered up by the door panel.

You will need an amplifier to get the volume and power expected from quality speakers like these. I drive them with a Punch BRT300x2.

they good but not great

put the in a 2015 silverado crew cab rear door, they sound good but not great, compared them to infinity kappa and the infinity's sound much better. i am running them with a pioneer 5 channel amp that is not acting right so i can not give well informed review. they look good , and do the job but i will go back with kappa's next time.

Absolutely as powerful as it states. I am using Focal components with this unit and a Memphis M3 12 at 2ohms. I am also using a capacitor and have nondoubt that this single all in one amp is top notch quality fairly small packge. Only hassle was mounting it. Clumsy design for screws. I ended up using 2.5 inch wood screws tonreach through corner mounts. Very happy...i have had other 5 channels before and had many issues...first time I've been happy with an all in one unit!

I have purchased two set of speakers, RF Punch P1650 and Polk Audio db651. The RF Punch P1650 is playing on the rear and the Polk in the front. Both connect to a Punch 600x4 amplifier. I found that RF Punch sound greater than the Polk db651.

Nicer sound at a low price

I replaced speakers in my 2001 Yukon which were all treble, no bass and one rear speaker did not work at all. These are a big improvement. Unfortunately the speaker that didn't work at all has a wiring problem and new speaker does not work there either.
Only catch was having to solder the old wiring socket to the new speakers as they came with no compatible sockets for my car. Great Sounding Speakers

I purchased these to replace the stock speakers in my Honda Goldwing's front fairing. They sound a lot better than the stock ones.
I would recommend then to anyone with a wing.

Party Pontoon

I installed 4 of these speakers on my Pontoon boat along with a Sony XM-604M amp and they sound great! Plenty loud and just enough bass to massage your bum when sitting on the seats LOL. The first time out we got yelled at from shore to turn down the music. It was the 4th of July so we kept rocking anyways... I just hope they hold up to the outdoors.

These speakers are loud and clear and handle bass well. i pushed 60 watts rms thru them crossed at 80hz and they screamed with well mids and highs and decent lows. they are best coupled with a larger speaker or sub that can handle the lower octaves as these are not specialized for that. These were used in many vehicles and always got great reviews from customers. will keep on buying these in the future. give them a try if on the fence.

Excellent Value - Clean and controlled mids & highs

I purchased the Polk 651's as replacement drivers for my 2016 Mustang GT. The factory speakers in my Mustang distorted horrible even at moderate volumes. As I didn't want to replace the factory head unit I needed something with good sensitivity, built in high and low pass crossovers, and something that would not require modifying the trim panels in the car. The Polk 651's checked all those boxes nicely. I should mention that I did need to disconnect the factory tweeters on the components in the front and would recommend doing this on any car where you are going from a factory component to an after market coax.

The Polk 651's did not disappoint. The speakers play with more than enough volume off the factory head unit and are clean and clear. The added detail to the mids and highs over my factory speakers is very much welcomed. The bass, while present, is not booming. For those that listen to a lot of bass heavy music, you'll want to pair these up with a sub.

Overall I was able to reach all of my goals at a very reasonable price point. Next step will be to add a sub to finish off the stereo upgrade.

Solid Value - Clear and detailed Mids & Highs

I purchased these speakers to replace the factory drivers in my 2016 Mustang GT. The factory drivers would distort (painfully so) at even moderate volumes. I chose to go with coax vs component drivers to avoid the need to cut out the factory A-Pillar tweeter and mount a new one (instead I simply disconnected it).

The Polk 651's became an immediate front runner. They have a high enough sensitivity to let me run them off the factory head unit and the -12db built in passive high and low crossovers help ensure the right frequencies go to the right driver.

After replacing all for 6.5's in the Mustang with the Polk 651's the sound difference was night and day. Clean crisp mids and highs with minimal to no audible distortion. Bass, while not booming, is present. For those that want a bass heavy speaker, these are not them. However, paired with a sub, they make for a perfect cost effective upgrade.

Good frequency response

I can't possibly compare these to stock as the stock speakers previously in place were in fragments. I had to modify front doors on my 02 GMC crew cab pickup. Drilling hole in the front doors was one of the modifications. Then splicing into the speakers wires to tie into what the Polk speakers needed to hook up was second. Rear speakers were easier due to the mount on the existing speakers. Then splicing once again into speaker wire to prepare to hook up speaker. The speakers sound tight and bass response is good for a 2 way speaker. The gasket in the install kit help with sealing sound. The install took me about 2 hours with lunch in between.

I'll be installing these in everything from now on, make sure to put them on an amp, a Head unit isn't enough power to get to their full potential. 4 of these on my tower, with 2 8" MB quarts and it sounds absolutely amazing!!!

Polk Audio db651

The product information indicated that they were replacement speakers for the OEM speakers. Far from it. The original mounts had to be modified to accept the replacement speakers, the wiring had to me adapted to make the connection and the design of the speakers would not allow the door panel to be replaced without modification. the adaptor bracket and cover bezel sent with the package are totally worthless for use with this vehicle. I am almost afraid to start on the installation of the db351 speaker installations.

Well first I got lucky and got amp wires on sale they are worth full price but just saying. I was worried that power wire may not be long enuff but had plenty no issues.
