Solid Preformer

Our Model Club has used the Pyramid PS52KX to recharge batteries for our electric powered R/C airplanes for the past 4 years. We get the most for our money with the PS53KX.

Good product and service

Good power supply for my uses. Ordered through willcall and went to Sonic to pick-up, had my power supply within 1 hour of ordering.

Excellent power supply that is very affordable

We have 3 of these in the laboratory for testing ABS controllers after remanufacture. They work great. My only suggestion to Pyramid would be to add a current limiting control. That way if the device we are connecting has an internal problem, current limiting will protect the component under test/power from further damage. 12V at 50 amps from this monster power supply will easily vaporize traces off a shorted circuit board.

So we test the control boards on a 2 amp supply. When they pass, get installed into the ABS hydraulic unit with motor and solenoids. Then that entire assembly goes to the PS52's on their rack for full load testing.

Transformer is very hefty as is the rectifier pack. This is not a mil spec item, so don't expect construction of that caliber. This product was intended to be affordable for consumer use. For the price, these are a great value and have proven to be reliable for our moderate industrial-duty application.

My primary quality concern for this unit (price being as low as it is) are the capacitors and their quality. I didn't open to see what brand they use. But we have not encountered any issues. Power is regulated perfectly and no ripple even at near maximum load.

Durable and handy

This is the second PS 52 KX I've owned. I used the original for about 5 years and then it got placed on the shelf where it sat for about 11 years. It performed flawlessly from the first time I used it. When I took it off the shelf, all I had to do was replace some capacitors and it was good to go. I like the unit so much that I bought another one. The price is right and delivery very fast. It's a great addition to my ham shack.
