Does The Trick!
I purchased this model hoping it would last longer than the previous 3 single disk bookshelf CD players I had. The previous ones were in the $35-$40 range so this one was twice the cost, but if it works it will be worth it. I have a special and single use for this type of CD player. I put it on a bookshelf right next to my electric fireplace. I put the speakers behind the fireplace with one on each side of the firebox. I have a CD with crackling fireplace sounds that I play on repeat and it sounds like a real fireplace. Now only to get the aroma of smoke! Not really. The previous models didn't have long enough speaker wire and the one farthest from the unit was hard to place. This RCA model had long enough speaker wires to reach (just). The previous models had the annoying blue displays that was difficult to read. Whoever invented that blue should be punished. Why they still us it I don't know. The RCA model has and easy to read display although it's best to observe it straight on as it tends to fade some at an angle. And the volume is good enough that I get the volume of the fire so it sounds real. Previous model didn't have enough volume. So far, after owning the unit a little over a month, I am happy with it.
My only complaint is that it does not have a battery backup. Unusual in this day and age. We tend to lose power frequently and we have to reset the clock.
Since I don't play music on it or the radio I can't attest to the quality of sound, but it is great for what I use it for. I would recommend it to others.
