Disappointed in Rockford Fosgate Primes

I am sorry that I bought these speakers for my car. I bought them because of the size - fit was important. But I should have been more careful.
These speakers have no middle or base tones. It is all shrill highs, to the point where they actually hurt me when I listen at times. Ouch!
Maybe its the materials (Mylar cones?), or maybe the size (too small), or maybe I'm asking too much for the money (less than $100.00/pair)? But the OEM are almost better. And that is not saying very much.

Best bang for your buck!

I have 4 sets of these in my Subaru STI, one in every door. All 4 are powered by a Rockford Fosgate Prime R300-4. I am beyond happy with the clarity of the speakers. The highs are incredible. It sounds like the hi-hats are in the back seat. The mids are smooth and not distorted in the slightest. The lows leave something to be desired tho. Lows tend to distort at higher volume. I set my system up so that these components do not need to handle the lows, my sub does that.

All in all, I would recommend these to the person who's looking for clarity in their system. If your a huge hip-hop fan, these probably aren't the best option for you.

Great sound great price

I installed a JVC receiver, the components front and rear, and a 10" Fosgate sub with amp and cap...the highs, mids, and lows are incredible. You don't realize the acoustics you're missing until you do something such as this (chimes in background, etc).

GREAT SPEAKERS FOR YOUR MONEY

love these speakers, they sound very clear. I'm running a pair in rear doors and got the r1652s in front with JVC kw-avx730 head unit no separate amp

Love them...but

I love the sound and quality of these speakers but when it came to installing them, the mounting bracket and holes are too small for the opening in the door, so I had to make modifications using the old speakers, just made things seem mickey mouse but wouldn't have worked without it...but still love the sound!

Great speakers at exceptional price

These speakers are crystal clear and provide enough sound to over come the sound from my loud exhaust. Def recommended to all.

Fosgate Prime is better than you'd expect for the money

I'd highly recommend these for anyone running straight off an aftermarket head unit or as factory replacements on a stock unit. I have an OLD Alpine head unit that's 60x4 and it pushes these just fine. Very crisp, clean tweeters that are natural sounding and not too "tinny". The midbass and vocals are good...not spectacular, but good. That may be because I don't have the adjustments on my head unit for midrange though...only bass and treble. About the only drawback that I can see is that the tweeter mounting is somewhat bulky and really shows if you use surface mounting. In a flush mount situation they would look really good. I have an FI BTL 18 in a 5.5 cubic foot box tuned to 36 Hz on 1800 watts rms and they keep up just fine using just the head unit to push them. Great value for the cash.

Nice speakers all the way round. Just got em hooked up 2days ago to the head unite (no amp on them). I have a Jensen VM9214 7" touch that I also got from sonic electronics. Lil distortion when speakers are up real loud but nothing serious. Highly recomend these speakers.

Great replacement front speaker

I got these as a replacement for the front speakers on my 2002 Pontiac Grand prix, Non-Bose. I used the adapter wire set so it was a plug and play affair. I used the factory tweeter wiring harness and cut a hole in the factory speaker grille to mount the tweeters. Now the front staging is brilliant. Much better than the factory location. Total install time was around 3 hours. Buy a bunch of door panel clips because now is a great time to change them, Ask me how I found out. Now it is time to add an amp and sub. Rock On!!

these things get the job done. they are greatly balanced, and they also get loud without any distortion. not much bass but that's because its a 5 inch sub. but overall great speakers. the built in crossover is amazing. helps to make the car look stock. i will purchase rockford next time :)

Not the greatest

Well i bought these speakers. They were not my happiest purchase. In general I just found them to sound like garbage and they are not very loud. But I will say this I ran them at about 3 times their rated power, and they lasted for a good three months. And they actually sounded pretty good. So pretty much I feel you can get better with the money.
