WOW! Did Rockford ever drop the ball on these! Forget these!

Plain and simple... NOT one of Rockford's better products. Not even close!!

No matter how I configured these... bi-amped, single full range amp, passive x-over, electronic x-over... Even with no amp at all. It didn't matter. They ALL sounded bad. Large or small enclosures... Even free air. Either the bass was really sloppy and boomy. Or it was not there at all. No mddle ground.

The highs... In a word... HARSH! Even with the x-overs set at -3dB! It took even more deck/EQ adjustment to keep the "finger nails on a chalkboard" sound in check.

I honestly thought all four speakers were fried and had them tested at a high end car audio shop. According to them, all was as it should be. The only way these even started to sound passable was when I hooked them up inline with Boston Acoustic passive x-overs using only the amp in the head unit.

These will remain in my boat as hole covers until I can afford something MUCH better. Then... these so called "speakers" will confined to Davy Jones' locker! It's too bad I can't rate these less than zero.

Learn from my costly mistake and save your money or invest it in a different set of speakers.

My first and LAST Rockford Fosgate purchase.

Rockford really dropped the ball with these speakers. Off the deck or run with a decent amp, these sound TERRIBLE! I could never find a happy medium with tone/EQ. Always very bassy and very tinny. NEVER a full sound spectrum. Forget about turning these up. And beware if you do, the "fuse" (actually a SPENDY 12V bulb) will pop repeatedly! Even idling with a very quiet 4 stroke outboard. Turn it up a bit to get over the engine. POP goes the fuse. EVERY TIME!

I've been into home, auto and commercial audio longer than most of you have been alive and let me tell you... Buy something else!

The only reason these are still in my boat is that it's now in storage and won't be available until April. When spring rolls around, these M162S's are GONE!
