Reliable and simple alarm unit

This basic alarm unit is perhaps one of the best car alarm deals online. The key FOBs are high quality, look good, and are very durable. The alarm unit will work for a very long time without failure if installed properly.

The alarm is very easy to install, program, and use. Everything about it is simple and easy. The ScyTek G40 can lock and unlock your doors, open your trunk, kill the starter circuit, or help you find your car in the parking lot.

The most impressive feature is the sturdy remotes. They're made of high quality plastic and metal, and look very much like nice original equipment car remotes. The range isn't great, but who wants to unlock their car from half a mile away anyway? That would be silly.

I give this product 5 stars across the board, EXCEPT for features, for the following reasons:
No on-board lock / unlock relays. This unit must be interfaced with a lock control module, or relays need to be added. It also only works with negative lock polarity. Check for vehicle compatibility - you may need to buy additional parts to get your locks to work.
No on-board starter relay: add relay for cutout
Siren chirp programming only: not compatible with a programmer unit (Directed Electronics products such as viper, clifford, and python are easier to program if you have the tool for them)

If you drop the remote, the buttons can get stuck, causing your car alarm to go into panic mode. A few taps of the remote on a solid surface will correct this, or you can take the remote apart while the car is beeping like crazy and straighten the batteries back out. This is not a big problem - it just happened to me a couple times because I'm an idiot and I drop things.

Conclusion:
This is probably the best simple alarm unit for the price, provided your car has a simple ground wire switched lock system. If it's positive side lock switching or otherwise, you may want to consider a unit with better vehicle compatibility.

The G40RS remote starter has been a wonderful addition to my vehicle. It was easy to install, and it operates just as described.

Great Product, Great Value!

I bought 2 of them, one for my car, one for my wife's car. Great product, very inexpensive. I paid roughly $35 per set. Also really satisfied with the range. I had a different product before in another car and the distance was not great. But this one I can start from a block away through walls.
Quality is great. Been using it excessively for a year now and neither fob shows any wear on the buttons.
The design of the fobs is very simple though.

Great Remote Start

Installed on my brothers 1994 cutlass ciera. Very easy install and straight forward, the instructions are very good compared to others i have seen. Overall a great remote start for only 40 bucks. The thing that impressed me the most was the range of the remote, i didnt think a non 2way would reach from one side of the house to the other.

Great Value

We live in Colorado and in the winter, it can get brutally cold. This is why an engine starter comes in handy. I see it as a need, not a want.
I am an installation technician and have installed alarms and engine starters for over 25 years. Take it from a man that knows, ScyTek systems are a great value for the money. Just make sure you get it professionally installed. Most of the time, the problem is not the unit, but rather the installer. I have had the unit for over 6 months now, with no problems.

Great Product Support

This has been a great experience ! I have been trying to find a product that would turn on a 12 volt light on my rural roadway gate. I spent months trying to locate a motion detection device to no avail. Then the idea of using a car starting device came to mind. So I ordered this one with the idea it operated on 12 volts and again had a remote capability. I received it promptly after ordering and went to wire it all up. Well changing the application from starting a car to turning on a light didn't go as well as I thought. So I tried what we all fear i.e. send a note to the manufacturer asking how to make it work. I thought asking for custom insturctions would lead to a big non response. BUT I was surprised and very gratefull when a quick reply came telling me what to do. I ran out to the garage and took out the unit and did what they said and IT WORKED JUST LIKE I WANTED!!!!!!!!! I then went out to the gate and hooked it all up, pushed the remote button and IT WORKED!!!!!!
My thanks to ScyTek for not just a great product but the willingness to be there for their customers even in unusual circumstances !!!!!!!

Great Basic Remote Starter for an Excellent Price

This is a good basic remote starter for an excellent price. I've had it since about November and haven't had any trouble. The instructions were pretty clear and it is very easy to program. I installed it on my winter car which is a 1991 Lexus ES250, and I don't think I'd ever go another winter without a remote starter. Since my vehicle was so old I didn't have to worry about a bypass module. I would have ordered another one of these to put in my girlfriend's vehicle, but it doesn't have the data bus to connect to a bypass module and I didn't want to be stuck manually wiring everything and have a big bundle of wires to hide. One con is the range isn't the greatest, but it's good enough for most scenarios. Don't expect to be inside W*****t and start your car from the checkout unless you're parked right by the door. It also doesn't have horn honk confirmation, so I'm confused as to why I even needed to hook the horn up to it. It only honks if you hit the panic button.

I would highly recommend this unit to any vehicle owner looking for a outstanding add on remote start system. This unit has worked flawlessly for months, programs and works to specs. I can even turn the unit off, and continue using my factory key fobs with no problem. The price may lead you to think it's lackluster in quality, but this remote start unit is superb!!!!!
