My listening experience with the Sennheiser HD558
I had approximately one month using the HD558 and I am so impressed with the quality of the sound and comfort it provides. A full broad frequency spectrum so balance that I use it every day. I hate to take it off, but I have to go to work.. I have only one suggestion for any potential buyer. The cable was made long for studio users (I guess). For my use, I prefer a shorter cable so that I can roam around everywhere. Sennheiser provides an option of a shorter cable which I am buying and would recommend to buy that. You will have the option of using either cable.
Hope this information helps. Can't really rate the durability (too early) but it has quality materials that should make it last

GREAT balanced sound, amazing soundstage for gaming.
Very nice and balanced sound signature, still has that satisfying bass. Soundstage is really amazing for gaming (CS:GO, Battlefield 3/4) and movies.
Also very comfortable with its soft velour cushions on the ear cups and the headband. It does have a bit of clamp, so people with bigger/med sized adult heads might need to stretch it out over time, maybe put a briefcase or something in between the cups, but for my head it's fine.
The plastic material is very durable, just look for a bend/twist test on any Sennheiser headphone on YouTube! I of course tried it myself and it's very durable, no marks on the plastic or anything no matter how hard I twist it.
The detachable cable is a nice touch, in case the cable breaks, you can replace it. Or maybe the big long plug with the adapter is awkward to use on a phone, you can buy a replacement cable which just has a 3.5mm plug instead of using the 6.3mm with the 3.5mm adapter on it.
