I bought this model last year for my 8yr old son, good enough specs and reasonable price. I bought my oldest son a pr of Beats and they are just way overpriced for their specification and performance but he just had to have them. I perform a lot of video editing work at home and work and had been searching for a new pair for myself. I considered price ranges up to $200+ but they were just hard to justify on a combination of my budget and performance levels that would really make a difference. I bought myself a pair finally and am very happy. Bought my 3rd son a pair as well. Dynamic range is good, good bass but not overdone/muddy like some other more expensive ones.... needed realistic sound. Foam comfort is good but foam padding weakens easy although still comfortable. I wish they folded smaller but not a big deal. The best thing?... the flat cord! Ever turn your earbuds into a bird's nest?.. not with the MDR-XB400. Also like the 90 degree plug. This review is based on professional audio work for an adult down to an 8yo shooting basketball with them on.... after buying 3 I would definitely advise someone to seriously consider this model. If you have a deeper budget you can consider some higher models but you may not be gaining much vs other items you might want to buy.

head stripe

The one and only problem I've noticed: it is not comfortable to wear it all day cause there's not a soft part to cover the head stripe. It hurts after 3hours of use.

most comfortable headphones ever!

these are incredible. I wish my pillow was made of this. the bass is insane! overall they are incredible headphones. I cant imagine having anything else!

Decent pair of headphones

The soundscape of the headphones is quite wide and detailed.
The thumpy bass and undistorted highs made listening to dubstep and hip hop an extraordinary experience.

I found the sound of the headphones a bit tinny though and wondered if this was because they needed abit of wearing in.

The headphones are of decent quality for their price and i am satisfied with what I got for my money.

Sony MDR-XB400/BLK

I purchased these headphones some months ago and I am certainly happy how they held up. Great on the price as well. The sound clarity is clear, they handle the highs and mids nicely, not top of the line but it still sounds really good. The thing that sold me on this was that these headphones were made for bass and these headphones meet my expectations, especially for the price. They are not overly powerful as I was hoping. Though they do hit pretty hard with the right songs (such as bass boosted songs). Not meant to be noise cancelling but they do block out the exterior nose fairly well. Also ergonomically, they fit/sit on the ear very comfortably. The ear foams are softly padded and feel nice on ear. They are adjustable and I can wear them for long hours without any 'ear'itation :)

If you buy these headphones I doubt you will be disappointed or regret buying them.
