Lives up to its claim of rich bass depth
Billed as "extra bass" and will deliver depending on the source. I bought the XB800 because I liked the Sony MDR-XB600. With my MP3 players the two headphones didn't sound much different. I do not have a high end amp but plugging the XB800 into a computer, the Sony delivers remarkable bass depth with disco and electronica music. Doesn't have the crystal clarity in the mid-range MHz range of say a AKG 701, but then again you are paying 1/4 the price. Certainly, I found the XB600 (40 mm drivers) much lighter and easier to wear. The Sony MDR XB800 (with their 50 mm drivers) is perhaps heavier and bulkier than pricier headphones. Overall, good value for money.

Excellent Headphones! Great Headphones! BUT made for BASS heads
These are by far the most comfortable headphones I have ever used. The memory forming foam padding isolates like no other. They sit like pillows on my ears. The sound... well they are extreme bass headphones. Hence XB in the model. I just so happen to be a bass head. so yes, i am in love!!! however, i have noticed a few tracks where certain details sound different than in my car. I have a sick system in my ride and i love my headphones. but make sure you are a fan of the bass. if you arent, you may want to steer elsewhere. and you may want to consider listening to good music too :) hahaha!!!!!
