    Infrared (IR) remotes require a direct line of sight to the stereo's sensor to work. Radio Frequency (RF) and Bluetooth remotes do not require a line of sight and can operate through walls, seats, or from outside the vehicle.

    This makes RF remotes ideal for marine and RV setups where the user may be far from the dashboard.

    Most brand-specific replacement remotes (OEM-style) are "plug-and-play" and don’t require programming. Once you insert the batteries, they are ready to communicate with compatible head units immediately.

    However, some advanced steering wheel control interfaces, or universal repeaters, may require a brief sync process.
