Having a pair of 2-way radios is good, I mean, you can't talk to another person unless you have a pair, but having two pairs of the Cobra CX312 is even better. With two pairs of radios you have a radio for the entire family (unless you have more than 4 people in your family in which case, just get some more). You'll be able to keep in contact with everyone on hikes, camping trips, various other outings such as amusement parks... There's too many uses to name. More importantly, you can keep in contact during emergencies just in case anyone splits up.
