Clarion Z25W Hi-Res Digital Sound Subwoofer (Open Box)

The Z25W Hi-Res Digital Sound Subwoofer is designed to improve full digital playback quality. The Z25W Hi-Res Digital Sound Subwoofer has a custom developed LSI that transforms electrical power into sound pressure. The subwoofer does not use an amplifier (the Z3 processor is used) which means it doesn't require external power. Adding the NX706 Full Digital Sound head unit, Z3 Processor and Tweeters and Z7 speakers will give you the Full Digital Sound System.

The Full Digital Sound (FDS) maintains the digital signal up until you hear it so there is no loss in fidelity of the signal. The system is extremely efficient, using about 1/5th of most car audio systems. The LSI is a high output microchip that transforms electrical energy into sound pressure to further boost the output of digital sound. The Z3 processor accepts various digital and analog inputs and outputs so the system can be used with different sources including car stereos.

With a traditional system, digital-to-analog conversion turns the digital signal into an analog signal that’s boosted by an amplifier to drive the speakers. The Clarion Full Digital Sound System uses an LSI (Large Scale Integration) chip on each speaker to modulate the 12-volt power supply voltage which then drives the speaker - adding the program and power together.

The DC voltage and digital information essentially travels along the same wires. The voltage and digital combines via the LSI chip. The speaker's 6 voice coils combine their driving energies together to transform the electrical signals to mechanical motions to produce sound. This allows the system to draw little current which is ideal for vehicles without a lot of extra power for a big sound system.
