Excellent Player
I bought the Denon DN-HS5500 over six months ago from Sonic Electronix, and have been using it consistently ever since.
The player itself is stylish, brushed steel & plastic, heavyish and feels very durable. The control vinyl is transparent, allowing you to print your own slipmats to go underneath, or it can be swapped completely for a 7" piece of vinyl (using an included mounting ring) which gives the player a nice look.
The player itself is easy to use, the two-decks-in-one feature is absolutely beautiful... I have this setup on its own with a Denon DN-X120 mixer, and can do full mixes using just the one controller. It can also connect to DJ software like Traktor, VDJ etc, but it's fairly pointless doing this as the player itself is more than capable of running things on it's own.
Compared to my other digital turntable (the Numark HDX) the interface is a breeze to use, the easily added HDD space (via USB hub) means you will never run out of storage, the screen is large and easy to use and scratching becomes surprisingly easy once you have a feel for the product.
I received my player after the most recent firmware had been released, and I have not experienced any of the problems which I had read about online (cue slip, time warping, folder searching etc). I believe these have all been addressed by Denon.
This product has actually been discontinued by Denon, but not because it's not a good player... they are just concentrating their efforts on building and supplying other pieces of hardware.
All in all, this is an excellent player & easily a competitor for the Pioneer CDJ range, and given the price tag attached, there's really no comparison to be made in my mind.
Top work Denon, keep it up.
