Great Products; Great Prices

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I've had previous Alpine Type R 12" speakers, and purchasing their most recent version from Sonic Electronix was good move! Great product for way less than you'll pay anywhere else. I'm consistently impressed with Sonic Electronix 's product selection and shockingly low prices. I will continue to support and recommended this Company.

For clean tight low end response

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

This is definately the sub for the true audiophile that is not looking to spend a fortune, but demands the best in sound quality and true clean bass respone, this is a great purchase and a well built driver.

Don't be fooled

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

Alpine say's that this sub will run 1000 watts. Don't be fooled I Bought one and blew and 3 months after the break in period I blew a voice coil. I had it hooked up to a JL Audio 1000/1 V2 slash series amp. The sub is worth the money if you're not gonna run 1000 watts to it but if you are you might want to go with the type x.

the hardest hitting subs ive owned

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I have had dual Rockford fosgate p3 12s and dual hifonics Brutus sq 12s and neither compare to these sub's. You can not beat the price and quality of sub's. Must buy!!!!!! Only issue for me is the extra rubber that hides screw's. It would stay on so I didn't use it but they still look and sound beautiful in ground shaker bandpass box.

question

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I want to ask someone who really have owned this new type R and owned a type x also, I had bought a type R in 2009 and it wasn't loud so I changed to a type x, I am wondering if this new Type R is the same as a Type X since as they discontinued the Type X?

Alpine type R

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

This is a great subwoofer, for 159$ this and the RE audio line, are the best for the price. I chose alpine however for the significant power boost. Just so you guys know you really don't have to worry about power, just watch your gains. I'm giving mine 1200 rms and it takes it like a beast. Highly recommend this in a sealed box for rock, and really it gets to a great volume in a sealed, but ported for sure if you're into volume and you will only need one of these.

Sub Gone Bad

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

Purchased this sub about 6 months ago and installed it in a ported box and it sounded great until the cone came unglued and now I am having to have it repaired. I am hoping after the repairs are complete it will sound as good as it did the first 6 months and that it will last a lot longer this time.

great sub, good deep bass

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

Pros: deep bass, can be loud or soft and sound good, box doesnt matter, sounds good in sealed or ported, only need 500 watts to get it pounding.

Cons: will blow easily if you try to run it close to max watts (stick with rms), doesnt have the high notes that other subs do (this is more of a rap sub than a rock one).

Excellent product

I have this sub in a sealed box in my truck running at full power and it sounds very good. It doesn't distort at all and the bass hits very hard without any distortion. Highly recommended, I'm very happy with it.

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

Have had mine for at least 3 months or so. I have an 1100 watt peak 550 rms amp hooked up to this and I am not gentle with it. Just one 12 in a custom ported box and this blows away my friends two kicker CVRs. Definitely worth spending the extra buck to get these. You wont be disappointed.

Alpine 4eva

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I have 2 12s wired down to 1ohm and I almost forgot what these sounded like! I owned 4 ran off 2 1500.1 kicker amps a couple years ago and they were dual 2 ohm wired to 1. Dual 4 put out the same head pounding bass, extreme lows with little or no distortion at high volumes. RE 1500.1 bridged are runnin mine. XS 1200v cell with .5 farad cap and yellow top optima for SERIOUS power. Sealed enclosure for my 97 continental.

Hard hittin

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

Bought this along with an RF Prime R500.1 (528RMS).
At first I had this in a sealed box and I was happy. Then I got a ported 1.8 cu ft box and this thing hits so dang hard. When the back seats are down it shakes my winshield and side mirrors like crazy. So many people ask what I have in back and they are amazed when I tell em its only 1 12". This thing out does 2 kickers easily. Almost nothing can compete with this sub in its range. The only thing that you have to watch on this sub is the low lows. After playin rack city at max volume they started to smell a bit. For all other Hz this thing is a beast.

Make sure you get a box designed to spec!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I had one alpine type r in a walmart box and was very disappointed. So I decided to get a second one and put them in a ported box designed to spec. WOW what a difference. I was bumping so hard my rear view mirror fell off! I would definitely recommend this sub just make sure you buy a ported box from sonic instead of settling for a walmart box!!

If you want loud get these. They dont change notes very well between high and low hits but they are still loud. If your lokking for everyone around to hear you get these. Two of these in a ported box is all the bass you would ever need.

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

The subs showed up on time and in new condition. Hooked them up and put them in a prefab box and could only do 130db berore clipping...the subs will not take 1000 watts rms...I'd say 600..taking them out and putting in 2 sundown x 12s

Not only do they hit hard with a small amount of power but they can take a beating. I started off with about 350 watts per sub... I am now pushing 1300 per sub and they don't skip a beat. Tight solid hard hitting/low frequencies for low bass.

Quality

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

Don't like seeing the hate on these subs about overpowering them. List the amp you have pushing them and the settings. I have an NVX JAD 1200.1 powering 2- Dual 4 ohm 12's. My electrical doesn't support it just before clipping. Backed it down just a little and voilà. There you have it. Haters quit hating and adjust your amps correctly or pay someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you. Damn good subs. Highly recommend.

Great sub, so-so in reliability

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I have been an Alpine fan in general since the mid to late 80s. I have always relied upon a great head unit, amps, and even subs. This sub is no exception. However, here's my take on the matter.

The sound quality itself is really good. Toanlly accurate, tight, deep bass in my sealed box. Power handling is exceptional as well (hitting 2 units with about 700w RMS RF power). Not bad at all.

However, recently the cone has separated from the surround from daily use. I do not compete, and I don't listen at compettition levels. I listen at moderate levels only. When a sub recently blew, I thought it was the voice coil. But in this case it was not that. I think Alpine quality has been slowly dgrading over time. Still a GOOD product / good value for the money. But there are better subs out there, you just need to do your homework.

As always, you get what you pay for. I am in the process now of having the defective sub replaced. Sonic has been really good overall since my first purchase years back. I love them overall and will continue to do business with them.

Nice Sub

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I have a single 12 dual 4 ohms pulling 2 ohms from a Alpine M110. It sounds nice but the amp is just a little to powerful for it, I have to keep all the levels down in order not to damage the speaker. I'm thinking about changing up and maybe getting two subs just to be able to get the most power out of everything.

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

These are great subs for the price, but dont beat them to true 1000 rms playing dub step or hip hop. 30v at 1 ohm with 50hz tone and this soon will blow easily! After first one failed, then the replacement failed, i own a hippo 122 and now unleash my amp at 39v 1 ohm load and am afraid of my car falling apart! If you have over 1000 rms amp just get 1 hippo 122 you will make your friends jealous when they see it's only one 12 in the trunk! Thanks sonic for the great prices and selection!

I have been through 3 subs since i had put sounds in my 2009 Eclipse. 1st one was a 12" Orion Xtr Pro, was pretty decent but i blew it. 2nd was an RE audio SE, Liked it a lot but i wanted to see if the new Apline R Type was better. Lol. Lets just say that i messed the hatch up with just ONE of them. The hatch flexes now. i had to turn down my Power Bass 2000 watts. Will be buying another one and plan to bust peoples ear drums. lol

Really great sub!!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I ordered this sub because I have ears great things about it and wow does it live up to the hype. I also ordered a sealed box to go with it and am very happy with the quality of both products. I've got the sub wired at 2 ohm to an alpine mrp-m500 and I must say it sounds amazing, with both good sound quality and bass. I am however considering upgrading the amp and also getting a ported box because it is currently getting 500 watts, half of what it's rated for and i want to hear it at its best! I would definitely recommend sonic electronix to anyone looking for the best deals and super fast shipping.

ALPINES NEW TYPE X+

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

Alright maybe im over my type X but this thing is like, man I can't even explain it properly you gotta witness this before you even talk about this sub. There are some people writing neg reviews cause they don't know how wire and give power to this baby properly. My experience of this sub. It actually hits harder than my type X and weights less and takes less space inside my enclosure. It's sexy and sleek, had some dudes trying take pictures of this like it won a competition or something. You can't go wrong with alpine I got a alpine CDA-105, got a sub now and speaker system on the way. Easy install, beast connections. In and out like a 1st night stand but this baby you just wanna KEEP ON HITTIN! This the baby u wanna introduce your family to cause she is a keeper.

Awesome

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I will go ahead and mention, I am definitely an Alpine guy, so I am biased. I have several of their products and I love all of them, which is why I decided to go with this subwoofer in the first place. I have never had a problem with Alpine.

I had an older Alpine Type E before I bought the Type R, and there is a big difference between the two. It is much louder and you definitely feel it more. It vibrates everything in the car. And I only have one. Two of these would be crazy.

I am running it off the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D amp, which powers it very well.

I put the Type R in the same ported box I used the Type E in, which isn't a even a good box, but I'm planning to get a proper enclosure built to the correct specs soon, so I'm sure that will make it sound even better.

I can't really speak about the durability yet, but based on my prior experience with Alpine, I have no doubts this sub is made well and will last a long time. It weights almost 30 pounds!

This sub sounds great, looks great, and you really can't go wrong with Alpine. Buy it!

Best Investment & Sub!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I bought a pair of these after some idiot stole my L7's. I used to have a pair like 2 years ago and they were good so i bought them again and i would have to say this is one of the best investments I've had. ive had them for about a month now and they are flawless. They're not over expensive and they POUND! I have them paired with a Rockford Fosgate T1500-1BDCP amp and they shake everything in my jeep. These hit alot harder than my L7s ever did. I put them in a Sound Ordenece box with 1.61 cubic space each. I will have videos up on youtube soon. Feel free to check them out: Rockford Fosgate t1500 with 2 type rs.

Alpine Type R SQL

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

First thing I notice was the tightness of the cone. I switched from CVX to these. I had 1732 real rms watts on the CVX's I have a new amp putting 1949 REAL rms watts to these bad boys. They sound so good. I 20mm of xmax, they catch all the notes that the CVX's missed. Alpine really out did themselves with these subs. They even match my trunk's carpet. My buddy has two T1 12's on a T1500CP and my systems is louder than his. I metered at 148.2 and he hit 143.6. Not bad for Type R's.

Alpine's uppin their game

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

My friend has one of these wired at 4 ohms he has a cheap amp so it probably gives the woofer around 200 watts, I connected the sub to my Rockford T1500-1bdcp which puts out over 1000 watts @ 4 ohms and the alpine really started slappin (no audible mechanical noise at 1000 watts either). 1 of these is good on 1000 watts, I would definitely get one if looking for good bass out of a single sub. 2 of these on an amp up to 2000 watts rms would be super loud. This is a nice sub I recommend.
Don't know anything about its durability.

I bought this sub about 6 months ago. At first, I had it running on the stock amp (about 60w rms) in my Cobalt, enclosed in a 1.25 ft^3 sealed box. As one could imagine, it just wasn't loud enough, so I bought a ported box (also from this site) and added a Fosgate amp. I am a guy who enjoys his low notes, and the Type R delivers great low end response! Overall this is a quality product (as is everything Alpine has made) and Sonic is the best site to buy from. I would highly recommend this sub! Combine it with a good 500w amp in a ported box, and you will NOT be sorry.

Greatest Investment Ever.

OMG! Ive been in the car audio game for two years. Over the years ive had everything from cheap to expensive, one to four subs, ported sealed all of that... Finally decided play with the big boys and get nothing but the best.

Super Duper Bass. I have just one in a ported box paired with the Rockford Fosgate Prime R500-1. Perfect Combination. If U Only Want One Get This Pair! Wont B Disappointed.

a good all around sub

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

The alpine type R is a sub that nobody could be disappointed with. The type R will play very, very loud and still remain clear. I have a civic with the sub bumping i am unable to light a lighter in the car because of the air vibrating (I only have one), I would recommend this sub to anybody.

There's a reason why this sub is rated 5 stars.

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I bought two of these straight off of sonic electronics and received them around a week later in perfect condition. You can't complain with Sonic Electronix. THE BEST car audio website in my opinion, and i use many many many of them.

If your looking to get into car audio and you want to start out with a really nice set up. My advice would be to go with these alpine type R's. Alpine really makes sure the customer is happy.

The product:
One thing that really confuses people new to car audio may be how much power can this subwoofer really take? It rated peak is 3000 watts. NOW, although alpine does underrate there subs for the safety of you not blowing them, That doesnt mean you go and get a 4000 watt amp. 2 of my R's ran perfect on a 2000 rms amp. The subs always ran cool and never got warm for me once... and im picky about checking that stuff. This sub shines in style. REALLY good looking sub.

The bass!
This is obviously what everyone wants to see. and let me tell you, you cant go wrong with this sub. If you have the money, and are looking to get a quality system. Look no further because this is the one. For 169$ per sub I was blown away at how loud these things were. Along with them being loud the quality of the sub is beautiful. They really punch out clear bass notes. Defiantly a 5 star sub, I still have these currently hooked up in a buddies car and he loves them, never given him a problem for a year and a half.

Surprised!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I was doing a lot, and I mean a LOT of research on woofers. After I blew up one of my Infinity woofers I knew I wanted something that could handle the power. I have a BRZ1200.1D and even though these woofers can take up to 1000 watts rms a piece, they still slap on 600 watts rms which also isn't what they're actually getting because my charging system tops off at 14.0 instead of 14.4 like the specs on the brutus says for 1200 watts. I showed my friend who got me into car stereo stuff and he said one of these woofer weighed the same as one of his 15" Kicker CVR's. They're not even broken in yet and I played a song that made my rear view mirror just aim straight down that I could never do with the Infinity's. If your considering getting these, just go ahead, you won't be disappointed!

sounds good in my single cab

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I have 2 12" dual 4 ohm in my truck in a custom box I made, internally braces and sealed all the way around. Even though this box was made to specs and solid as a rock I wish they could go a little deeper. But for what I payed these are great and they still hit deep enough to shake windows when I pull up somewhere. Overall this woofer is very versatile and sound good when in the right box.

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I have this hooked up to a Powerbass XAX-1200d or something like that and I'm so impressed with both. i have this in a sealed box in my prelude and its so loud! I have one of these and all my friends think its awesome and it hits the notes I want it to. its quite heavy...but then again its a sub haha but it looks clean in the car and makes my rear view mirror start to fall haha. Everyone at the installation shop I went to was asking what i had and were trading in their Kenwoods and MTX and Pioneers for this. highly recommend this sub. i have not looked back on my purchase at all. i just wish it was a little more flashy...i love the simplicity but a little something more i think would be acceptable also. btw i listen to all sorts of music. im from LA so im big on hip hop and rock. this sub in a sealed box with my amp is just perfect. GET IT!

Just WOW!

First off, I thought I was getting the previous model type r which was like over 50$ diff but they upgraded me to the newest model without telling me (which is awesome).

Secondly, this thing performs!!!! It will vibrate your nose hairs and sometimes causing a sneeze (NO JOKE). on the mrv m500 amp and a 1.5ft box its louder than what my head unit can produce volume for the music. And this is just for 1 alpine type R. couldnt be happier

I built my own box for it and im pushing around 1000 watts from a hiffonics amp that i bought from here as well and its really nice, low, and loud!!
I WOULD TOTALY RECOMEND THIS SUB!!

Thourougly impressed. Clean. Loud. And DURABLE.

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

Sometimes people say "you get what you pay for." Well, this is definitely NOT the case. Alpine has surely been generous in this deal. I bought one of these back in march only to watch my cheap 1600 watt lanzar push the sub until it went into thermal protection (which was a 6 hour trip from Dallas to Lubbock) the sub though: a little warm. Alpine must have solved the heat problem for sure.
I guess the next thing to note is durability. Being a teenager in high school I always have people in my truck and with a console box, people touch the speaker while its running and stuff gets put against it. Worst it got: a scratch
I recently upgraded in September by buying a second one and building a new custom box. So end result: 2 swr12-d4's in a 6.67 cube box (yes I know it's oversized) running abt 900Wrms. Got a friend with a meter: pushing 116.
Recently bought a Hifonics glx2200.1d and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. My friend's meter cuts out at 130 so now I have to go find a term lab to test it. Now with the right power this audiophile-to-be can't be any happier because I can now have the sound quality to match a system many times more expensive but also possess the power to show off upon occasion.

I have a single 12 in a box a built tuned to 32htz and 2.68c ft of airspace, this thing whollops its louder then my 2 15s on twice the watts, btw I'm running an alpine Mrp500 but pros it seems very sturdy and is very stylish but for how much the surround moves at 500rms 1000rms seems like it would really over push it, I might post again in six months on the durability of it.

I purhased this sub brand new a week ago and i love it. I have always heard good things about the type r series and had to invest in one. Still breaking it in so the gain on my mx-50 Alpine amp is only up 1/4 of the way and this single sub shakes the mirrors in my olds alero and gives a nice back massage! Cant wait to hear it slam when i adjust the gain! Very crisp and clean sound.

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I initially got the previous model which could handle only 600rms and I cracked the spider so I wanted to get something that could handle more power. This subwoofer put in 1.8cu ported slams lows like I have two 12's in my trunk. PLUS I am only feeding it 3/4 power on my alpine mrp m500. Compared to the previous model this sub is more than worth it.

Very satisfied--recommended

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

Usually when I see a full 5-star rating I think it's just a fan boy who doesn't really know what he's talking about. This is an exception.

*Value* - $200 for 1000watts? That's incredible
*Design* - Dead sexy. Perfect with black interior.
*Durability* - Very strong. See below.
*Features* - Included jumper cables and connections - very convenient to wire the sub to its final ohm rating.
*Ease of use* - Manual is very descriptive and includes diagrams of all the different wiring options. Wiring the jumper cables and the speaker connections to the amp was very easy.

This woofer was a huge upgrade for me. I went from 2 DUAL 12" in the rather large, flashy bandpass enclosure of theirs to this Alpine sub in a Sound Ordnance ported box. I've got a Hifonics Brutus 1200.1 powering it at 2ohms.

While I'm still breaking it in and tweaking some settings with the tuning, I have to say I'm very happy with it. With my bass knob, I can dial it down and get very clean, subtle bass perfect for really any genre. Upon cranking it up, it hits *very* hard and I soon forgot I only had one 12" in my hatch.

It seems to keep at a low temperature, and I have my gains and bass boosts set pretty conservatively. I tuned my amp with a multimeter to reach the desired voltage. It looks amazing--huge upgrade, in my opinion, from the older type R's. Flexes well, no noise, etc. I do sometimes smell the woofer at high levels, but I think it's just being broken in (with the DUAL's I learned what voice coils smell like). Also, that magnet is *heavy* and this thing is tough.

Overall, if you want a sub that hits very hard cleanly, or one that cleans up and compliments the mix, this is perfect.

A friend of mine recommended these to me because I was looking for tons of power without a huge hit to sound quality. So bought one, it hit so hard, and sounded so good i bought another! My Only complaint is the way you have to put the speaker wire into the sub i found it quite hard to get the wire to stay in place. Really this sub is just a great mix of power, sound quality, and price! As long as its from sonic other websites this sub was $279 bucks!

Good all around sub

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I really like this product. It is loud and pretty crisp and I only have it on a 500 watt memphis amp. It does smoke a little when I turn it up but im pretty sure thats my very old amp, and not the sub at all. I didnt like how the bannana clips for bridging the voicecoils felt so I just used speakerwire. They were just very loose. I listen to hip hop, punk, rap, dubstep and it compliments them all very well. Oh and if youve never listened to dubstep on subs then dont hate on it just yet. Its totally different. It is really about the bass you just dont get on headphones. Lol

I am running this sub on a 500 watt JBL amp at 2 ohm and it is bumping. I've only had it for a month but so far it works. I previously owned at JL Audio W3v3 and this thing is way louder and has very similar sound quality for a cheaper price. With just one sub is enough for me and I'm not even pushing the sub to it's max. My car windows aren't rattling but the bass is enough to still turn heads when really pushing it. Really enjoy this subwoofer and I would definitely buy another one.

Alpine made a fake advertisment for consumers but!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

I would highly recommend the alpine type r they hit very hard and clean unless you don't have the electrical, a powerful amp , the right box , the right gauge and battery and everything , then they wont hit. alpine really did change the type r completely i mean the previous hit harder but the power wasn't still balanced because it has 1800 peak and 600rms that's not a balance sub-woofer if you look it the rest of the company's they have there rms half of what the peak is for example if the sub-woofer is 1000peak then the sub will be 500rms, alpine usually doesn't do that that's why they always have problems but finally the first time they have the rms of the new alpine type r balance with the peak thats how you'll get a good system in your car especially when it comes down with the rms power, but iam still breaking in the subs, and i kind of smell something weird when the sub-woofer hit maybe iam breaking into them ill wait more time and see what happens just recently still bought them, the alpine type r does not do 3000 watt peak that's for sure because i heard a 3000 watt sub-woofer and it pounds super hard compare to the new type r and that's a fact and proven that type r doesn't do 3000 watt peak its 2000 peak 1000rms look on alpine.com and see for yourself and if you have the these subs you could tell they hit 2000 peak and for sure 1000 true rms they lied about the peak power but not the rms i have 2 of these in a sealed box with an alpine pdx m12 which mine is rated 1450 rms at birth sheet at 12 volts which is plenty enough for the type r each getting about 700rms each that's good you don't want to go over you could but i like to be in the safe side and not put pressure on the voice coils even thou they build the new ones strong. and my system pounds super clean and sound quality is amazing for the money you pay for. my chest pounds and my teeth rattles but for a fact not 3000peak or else I'll be ****in up car alarms in the parking lot like crazy because a peak means how much can the sub pinch it doesn't pinch 3000 it pinch 2000peak for fact and alpine even said it , so they made a big false statement to the consumers and thinking there going to get the same power as the 13w7 jl audio because it has about 1000rms and 3000peak. lets be straight here the previous version has 1800 peak and now the new ones have 3000 peak now lol that's funny the news still pinch about the same as the older ones just 200 peak difference not 3000 watts my ass.
but overall the the previous type r hit good and hard but not enough rms power as the alpine type r d4 which does 1000rms clean and true, and the new ones to let you know i still bought them but since it hit truly hard and clean and sound quality is outstanding , i have to wait more time and I'll see what alpine really did to the new type r and will see what there up to if its worth, but other than that i would recommend to anyone buying these sub

I need more juice!!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

These things are beasts. If you can't afford the really expensive stuff go with these. They won't dissapoint you. I started with one of the older models and it pounded on my amp pretty nasty for a single 12". Kind of reminded me of my w6 in a way. Now I have the newer model to go with it. I have the Kicker 750.1 running them in a sealed box in a Camry and its not enough by far. It sounds like one still. I have everything wired to the lowest ohms I can get em. I wish I would've gotten the 2 ohm ones to give em a bit more power, but I can't complain. I think they would be better off with a slot ported box but they sound very clean the way they are. With the right amp and set up you can run just one of these and be happy.

High output, Good sound quality

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I wanted a sub with high output and good SQ at a low price, after doing a lot of research, I decided on this woofer. I tossed it into a 1 cubic foot sized sealed box as recommended by Alpine for SQ (I mainly listen to rock music). I juiced it with an RF bdCP 1000, 900 watts at 4ohm.

I used to own 2 RF 12's powered by the first model Bd1000. This single 12 hits at least 70% as hard and has better sound quality.

I bought one more of these, and I'm thinking of sending it back, a single one is so loud. ( I will probably keep the extra one and hook it up)

I havent tried wiring this sub at 2ohms (My amp gives 1500 Watts at 2ohms) But I would imagine it would probably sound even better.

This sub sounds good for rock and rap, but for some reason, it makes techno and dance music sound great. It feels just as bulletproof as it looks in the pictures.

Insane Bass

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I have one in a 2009 Ford Escape for my wife. It's running off a pr2.100 Memphis 2 channel bridged at 300 rms. This sub is by far not getting enough wattage but the sound and clarity is superior than 2 PR Memphis 12's. This one sub is plenty for her car and I recommend this for all. This sub is well worth 200.00 range easily. I fiberglassed a box with 1.9 cu internal vented tuned at 32hz. This is a 5 star sub.

Two SWR1243D on a BXI2607D at 1 ohm

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

These subs can get really loud they can almost handle all the power my bxi2607d puts out at one ohm but I cant run all the power to them.
I would recomend these to someone who likes mid low to mid bass they dont go too low so if your looking for low lows like 5-30 hz look somewhere else I put them in a box that is 3 cubes per chamber tuned at 32 hz and the aw1208t's I had in the same box really hit the lows crazy but these r's they are more for 30-60hz bass that most rap plays and they sound really great just don't hit vary low like i would like or Im used too lol

Alpine type r great sound for great price

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

got this a few months ago for a good price. lows on this subs is clear and deep. running it with alpine cda117 head unit and alpine mrp-m500 mono amp at a stable 2ohms. the thing about this sub is you can't just go out and buy a cheap prefab box, you need to get a box built to its specs to get the full use out of the sub otherwise your system will sound like crap and you can even ruin the sub. spent $250 just to have the box built to its specs. overall great sound for great price.

awsome for the price

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I bought two for these subs in June and man do they sound good. Ive never had alpine. Ive had kicker cvrs solo baric cvx Ive also had memphis and to be honest with you nothing has compared to these other than I really liked the solo baric l5. I have the bxi 1610d running two of them in a ported box I dont know the cubic feet of the box lol but the bxi is rated at 1600 rms but ive talked to several at sonic and this amp pushes about 1400 rms but they do hit pretty hard I have 0/1 gauge ran and I upgraded my alternator to 150 amp and I soon will be getting the sk-bt60 and another sub! sonic is a great place to buy from ships fast I would recommend this sub to anyone for the amount of money sonic has them priced at you cant beat it.

They Punch Kittens

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I bought a pair of these to go into just over a 2 Cu. Ft. sealed enclosure (MDF sides and back, glass front, separate chambers) They hit very well for being in a sealed enclosure. They are a bit heavy at 26 Lbs. I'm pushing them with a pair of PDX 1.600's with LPF's set to 100 Hz. Even with the gain set to the max, which I don't suggest unless you are using an inline bass remote, I don't get a hint of distortion even when the volume is to a point of being physically painful.

Just what everyone needs!!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

Picked up 2 of these alpine 1242d 12's and put them in a ported box hooked up to a mrp-m2000 amp and they can handle the amp on some serious shake work. the ring on the sub flexes great. I had to turn the amp down for sure as not to blow the subs but have them running now @ 4 ohm parallel and they love it. i for sure am going to pick up another set and run them @ 2 ohm b/c they can take it all easily. def competition grade for the folk with a low budget.

Loud Sub

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I listen to one of these all the time in my friend's car. It slams! He pushes it past the rms too often but this subwoofer handles it well. I have seen this sub pushed obviously past it's limits for a couple minutes straight and it is DURABLE! Luckily, it just wont blow. The sound quality isn't there. I have W3's and they are noticeably cleaner. If you put this in the right size ported box, it is well worth the money.

Much Better Clarity

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

Had a store credit, added some bucks to it and got this ALPINE SWR-1242D with the idea of swapping it out with the Hifonics BRUTUS I already had in a ported 1.75cf enclosure.

Part of what made the decision was because Sonic listed the cutout diameter as 11". * * * IT IS NOT... IT IS 10+7/8". * * *

That was a minor annoyance as I had to graft a 2nd baffle piece on top of the enclosure over the original hole (the original whole was just a hair too big, the screws would have ripped-out of inside of the circle in the wood for sure).

Anyhoo.... ON TO THE GOOD STUFF....

The clarity of the reproduction of the bass tones with this driver I noticed definite improvement over the Hifonics BRUTUS. And I'd have to say there's even a little more of a punchy crispness to those certain kinds of kick-drum type hits too.

Theirs no comparison when it comes to the stiffness of the cone/dust cover on top. The BRUTUS could be flexed easily with fingers.

I'm only running this with a HITRON HA-1000.1 @ 2 Ohm and it gets loud and sounds damn good. However I get the feeling that with a more powerful amp this thing could be pushed even further. I dare not push it too hard with the HITRON for fear of underpowering it and burning the voice coils. That being said the SPL is already ridiculous and gives respectable migraines (HeHe).

The box comes with banana-plug jumpers for the voice coils and the voice coil connections are all right together. Nice and easy. It also comes with a rubber push-in ring which covers over the screws for a clean look to the install.

The documentation pamphlet shows a ton of different ways to configure connections to one or multiple amps connected to one or multiple woofers showing the Ohm load presented for each configuration. I was always curious about 3 woofers configs so that was kinda neat to read.

I love watching my watter bottle dance around in the cup-holder. =)

I didn't know Alpine made such good subs, thought they were a speaker company. but not only do these shake the trunk of his mustang, the sound quality is not half bad.

BASS! How Low Can It Go?

These sub is hands down the best one out the collections of subs I have. The overall design and build of the sub is amazing. I really appreciate how Alpine had the terminals on one side and can easily be bridged with a less than 6” inches of wire. I currently have them in a sealed enclosure that is a little too big but sounds so nice. The bass sounds tight and hits hard. I may switch to a vented box to hear and feel the difference.
This sub will not disappoint and is money well spent. I also highly recommend getting the grille to protect the sub.

Great subs for the price!

I have two of these subs, with each one being powered by one PDX-M6 Monoblock 600 watt amp. They sound amazing. Very clean, tight sound that I hadnt experienced with my past sound systems. You wont find a better subwoofer in this price range. Currently, I'm running 600 watts to a sub that runs at 600 rms, and it appears to be a perfect match in conjunction with the rest of my system, as I want a clean, blended and loud sound, not huge Boom Boom from the trunk and nothing else being heard. If you're like me, you read nearly every damn review before you punched in that credit card. Buy them!

For the price and quality I would highly recommend these subs to anyone who is looking for sum slap.

Serious Sub

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I have this in a SonicElectronix slot ported box and wow does this put out some serious SPL's with 600 clean watts from an old Diamond Audio D5 600.1 amplifier wired in parallel. This combo sounds and feels like it's going to rattle my Civic Si Sedan to pieces. I am going to need some serious Dynamat to keep it all under control! I highly recommend this sub. There simply isn't anything better in this price range.

Some of the Best

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I have two of these hooked up to an alpine MRP-M2000, getting about 750-800 watts rms each. They hit real hard. Mine are in a sealed box stuffed with polyfill. Get these and give them lots of power.

very affordable entry level sub

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

This sub is very affordable and doesnt require that much power. I had 2 of these hooked up to a hifonics bxi1200, that was a pretty good match. I originally had it in a prefab vented box, didnt sound to good so i made a sealed box with the exact specifications in the owners manual. Very clear subwoofer i tried them free spaced and they sounded a little better in my tacoma i would buy again.

LOUD and CRISP!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

Well, it bought two of these 12's to connect to my BOSS amp (very fine product BTW), and these thangs HIT! I bought these to replace my older Infinity References and it was the smartest move. Not only do they hit harder, but they take as much juice as you can throw at them. If you get two (which is a bargain at this price; almost the price of one from other places) you can wire them for either a 1-ohm or 4-ohm load. At 1-ohm they are the loudest subs on my block. I've never seen a lower price for these kevlar reinforced 500-RMS monsters.

Huge Improvement of Product

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I had bought 2 type r's back on 2002 and I was very disappointed with their performance. Now that they have been redesigned and the surrounds made to mimic the type x with 500 watts rms rather than 300 rms you get an awsome bang for your buck. Also with the sealed 12" boxes available from sonic you can run more power to them and not worry about blowing this sub. I plan to run it at 2 ohms with 1000 watts rms daily. I definately suggest running sealed but that's my personal preference on any sub. I've seen several with mrd1000's and they thump.

I had it goin great sub fuckin slammed so hard for one but then one day I was slamin and not even turned all the way up sub just blew. Good sub

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

Just installed one with an mrp-m500 and it hits good. Bought some more for me and accidentally spilled some epoxy on it. When getting the epoxy off, it peeled some of the cone with it which is when I noticed that the cone is not really "kevlar" but pressed paper with a metallic paint coat on top. Other than that, its a great sub...just wish alpine didn't twist the truth

Well not sure yet

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

I bought these to replace my kicker cvr 12s, thinking higher x max would allow them to hit deeper than the kickers.I put them in sealed boxes and run each one with a Kicker 750 amp. They dont sound as loud and are distorting when turned up.Might be bad amp match up or I need ported box? I have however heard one of these subs in someones car ported and it sounded great so that is probably the answer.

God Damn!

I had a single original 12" type r in my caviler with a directed 1100d blew it but thats bound to happen when you double the rms to your sub then i bought two of then next series same directed 1100d in the same car sold them for 15 kicker l5's "dump stupid idea!" now i have four of the current models 2011 little r's 100 more rms then the last two series so yeah i know what i'm talking about when i say buy these muthaf***** subs they take a beating and sound great and for a this price s*** you would have to be stupid to pass them up!

This sub is a great high quality sub 4 the money!!! I have one 12 type R sub in a in a slot vented box, The box is 2.7 to 2.9 cu ft .it is twice the size recommended, but still slam,s. i have this sub powered by a Jackhammer jh 600 amp, thats 673 rms of power!!!!!!!! This sub will take every bit of it with no fear. but i only have the amp at half way and it is still heard from 3 to 4 blocks away from my house. I got my first ticket for noise pollution a couple months back. The officer testified that he felt coming from well over a hundred feet. Hits HARD

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

This sub is crazy. people think (me once included) that if it wasnt a kicker or something equally as hyped, it wouldnt hit hard. I read reviews and actually just got lucky with these. My sub (audiobahn) blew out due to installers mess up and so they gave me this one for free. I thought there was gonna be no way it would be better than my old one which hit pretty hard... It blew my old one out of the water!! I loved it so much that a week later i bought another one with a bigger amp and box. I loved it. It is easy to underpower these things so unfortunately u need 2 buy a decent sized amp that will cost u a little bit but its worth it. Do yourself a favor and save money (contradictory to what i just said but compared to a kicker u will save) and get these. You wont be disappointed... btw my amp is a alpine 1000 watt rms amp. (these give out 500 rms each but can go higher. my amp mite b underpowering them)

I honestly wouldn't put one of these in my car again but i will have to admit, this sub is really nice. I just don't like the way it looks in my trunk lol. But if you want a damn nice sub that can take abuse and can hit lows, this is for you. This sub is durable as can be. No tinsel leads to worry about because they are under the spider and the excursion is ridiculous. The SQ is quite good too. Definitely needs to be ported i think, but it depends on what you like boomy or flat response. I would recommend this sub if you want a really good quality sub that will last a long time.

way more than I expected, very impressed

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

Just installed mine tonight and I had to go riding a couple blocks. I am hooked on alpine after hearing my two in a 6cu ft box tuned to 34hz in the trunk of my 1993 cadillac devile (which has a one inch firewall between the cabin and the trunk) powered by my soundstorm cr4000.1 at 1 ohm. The bass is insane at low volumes with the bass setting on my head unit at the very minimum. These subs do way more than I expected them to do. The best part is that they require so little power to do it my amp might as well be on vacation. I had to reduce the level of bass boost on my amp. Thanks /////ALPINE and Sonic

SPL bro

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

First off, I have my Type R in a 3.4^ft gross box with a 4"x5" round port (build us slot port, it sounds better). It is powered by a JL Audio GMAX giving it 49V. Stock100A alternator and stock battery. Voltage drop down to 13V at full tilt.
The first week I broke the sub in, I used a 1.2^ft sealed box.DO NOT SEAL THIS SUB! It will sound like garbage compared to a ported box. And if you really want to get max SPL, make a ported box a little bigger than 3^ft. If you put it in a box that big, you cannot give it more than 800 RMS. YOU WILL BLOW THIS SUB IF YOU DO!
Not particularly sloppy or muddy, but definitely not tight. Personally, it works good for me. Sounds good with metal, country, and rock. This bad boy really shines with trap and dub.
Extremely loud for a 12". Rear view mirror always faces my shift knob now. Slight difficulty breathing, hearing loss after extended listening, and free bass back massages are all side effects that come with this basshead prescription. Enjoy!

P.S.- Go with a RE Audio SXX. Nothing hits harder for the money.

Fantastic--best subwoofer for your money

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-12D4).

Before installing these I had previously installed (4) 6X8 Type-R door speakers powered by (1) 400 watt Pioneer GM-D8604 amp hooked to a Sony XAV 64BT head unit. I can't say enough good thing about the Type-R brand: these door speakers are impressive.

I lacked that extra bass push that I really wanted though, so I decided to stick with the Type-R family and install two 12" Type-R subs powered by a 1900W BRUTUS X-14 Series Class D Monoblock 1-Channel Amplifier.

The result is a system with full, rich audio that will slam when needed. I chose to install my subs in a sealed box, and I wired them at 1 ohm. I highly recommend these subwoofers to anyone looking to build an affordable yet very respectable system.

Awsome Sub Great Sound

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1243D).

Alpine Subs just rock, I have had Kicker CVR,CVX, and L7s, DD, Rockford, and JL W7s sure those are good subs great SPL so so sound quilty. For the price Alpine can't be beat nice SPL but also amazing sound quality ever at max volume, if you thank there not good it is prob your box you need to always have a custom box built for your car/suv for your subs to be the best they can, sure a prefab box works but the box makes night and day in quality. I have two in a custom 4 cf box ported around 30hz for SQ the higher the port the more SPL but the less SQ. There running off a clarion PDX11500 1500w RMS at 1 Ohm and its more then then Kicker L7 15" I just took out. Will always buy Alpine as long as they keep up the great work.

Best bang for your buck

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

They slam hard. My rear view mirror fell off from them, and I set off a few car alarms too. They hit a bunch of the low notes that a typical 12" cant hit. I have them hooked up to a jl a1800 monoblock amp, and they sound amazing together. my only problem is that it lacks on the higher notes. I may need to make a bigger box, or power my subs at 2 ohms instead of 4. Overall, they're the best

Power

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

The hardest part to any system is to find the right amount of power, for the alpine SWR 1242 i found the best result came from the Kenwood KAC-9104D. it preforms great, if you are looking for a system with some heavy kick but just one subwoofer. i look forward to making a full transition to an alpine system within the next few months.
i gave it a 5 for the Durability features and ease of use because well, it has not let me down yet, and probably will not anytime soon.

Amazing

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I have one alpine 12, with a jl 500/1 powering it, and this sub is louder than most two twelve systems. i built my own box according to specifications and wow.

my rear view mirror is about to fall off.

i also have 4 alpine type s speakers which make the highs so clear even with the loud sub in the back.

very very clean bass, very low bass as well...

i highly recommend. very highly, after the speakers and the sub both being amazing, way beyond my expectations, i would now have to call myself an alpine man.

Great Tight BASS

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

the Type R's surround makes it have tight and very deep Bass sounds a lot deeper than a 12, great sub, i have 2 in my roush mustang and they are extremely nice, i got 3 of my friends to buy them and they all love them, a lot cleaner than kicker cvr's and close to as loud as them too. i'm powering them with a Kicker ZX1000.1

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

LIKE THE LAST GUY SAID ALPINE IS A GREAT PRODUCT. GREAT POWER AND DEEP BASS. I HAVE HAD LOUDER 12'S THAN THIS BUT NOT NEAR AS CLEAN SOUNDING. ONLY PUSHING 2 R'S AT (300RMS) A SPEAKER BUT PEPS THINK THERE 15'S. LOL I TELL THEM STEP THEIR GAME UP. PLAN ON ADDING ANOTHER (100)RMS TO A SPEAKER. TYPE R AND X ARE RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE NEW OR OLD IN THE GAME.

IT THUMPS SOOOO HARD!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

i have a 4 door truck so i don't have room for a big box. i bought two of these and put them into a box that is only 30" wide. i'm running them off of a boston acoustik 2000 watt amp. this is my ninth pair of subs and i wouldn't trade them for anything. they hit the hardest, go the deepest, and vibrate my car like no other sub i've owned. i gave up kicker cvr, mtx, JL, type E, and another pair of mtx's, but i will stick with these! i will challenge any other 12's at this price!

I looked around for places to buy these particular subs. One vendor from Amazon sent the wrong model, I had to return item. Tried Ebay, after purchasing the subs from them, got a message the item was actually out of stock! Finally tried Sonic Electronix, they shipped faster than the vendor who shipped the wrong subs, and sold a better price. Glad I found Sonic!! Subs sound awesome to say the least! Great sub for the price

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

This is a great sub for the price, a lot of bang for your buck. I bought this as well as a Boston spg555 and although the spg555 dominates this sub it still packs quite a punch and is well worth the price. If you're an audiophile i wouldn't recommend this sub though, this is a heavy hitting sub and although better then some subs I've heard, not audiophile quality, would recommend something like the spg555 for an audiophile. Still a great sub though.

This subwoofer is amazing, I'm running one to an alpine mrp-m500 at 2-ohms with roughly 500 watts going to it and it hits sooo HARD. It blows away my friends two 10" alpine type S's. This subwoofer will put out the best quality of bass that you have ever heard. One important thing tho is to let break in good before you bump it too hard. After she breaks in it is the best sub EVER. please buy this subwoofer if you are looking for extremely goood bass at not a bad price, so worth it!

Subs are great

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I bought two of these 12 inch type r's today man do they hit. I did have 2 10" boston acoustic g2's so my 8 gauge wiring kit isnt enough but I will be buying a 4 gauge tomorrow or tonight so these subs will pound, hard. I can't wait my trunk already rattles to all h*** and people love riding in my Plymouth Breeze (I know) because of the clean, hard hitting bass that gives everyone a back massage because of the vibration. The 10" boston acoustics were also awesome, but these are better. I would definitely recommend either of these brands.
Stay loud!

Alpine's Type-R is a great

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

A friend of mine ran a pair of these on a VA Audio VAAM 1600 in his S10 Blazer for about a year or so. I took them from him and put them in the trunk of my Volvo on the same amp for a few months, and then wound up selling them to another friend of mine to run on, once again, the same amp in his Honda Passport. All I can really say about these is that they are great for what we've spent on them. We've been running them at only 400w RMS per sub (way underpowered, you can hook one of these up to the amp by itself and the full 800w RMS won't distort it by all that much.) When my friend in the Honda upgraded from his Sony Xplod 12" subs he'd had about a year he was amazed at how much louder and cleaner his bass was. Even in the sealed trunk of my Volvo, I would set off car alarms and shake my rear view mirror to the point that I could hardly use it.

Great subs. If you're looking to spend less than $500 for two subs, an amp, and a box, these are a great choice to start off your system.

Note: Even in 3 cars, on 3 amps, being wired countless times in more than 4 different boxes, I've yet to notice ANY drop in sound quality or loudness. They still haven't even began to wear out, which is impressive for any stereo equipment over 2 years old. We even dropped one and cracked the back casing, and it didn't effect anything more than cosmetic damage on the sub. Durability, and therefore resale value when you're ready to move up later on, definitely show here.

If you need a speaker that will sound good in a small box then buy the TYPE R. I have a very small custom box that I've build for my trunk, while doing the research, Alpine speaker said it need minimum of 0.57 cubic feet for enclosed box, and that was perfect for me.

It's in a f150 extended cab. Let me tell ya these subs when powered to their extent, will make your lungs rattle. the only thing that has come close is two cerwin vega strokers.

Alotta Bang For The Buck

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I just ordered two 12" alpine type r's and hooked them up to a 1000 watt RMS amp at 1 ohm. They have been in use for just a little over a month and they definitely pound. Though the subs hit very hard, the bass isn't as deep as I would like. I only listen to rap and if you're looking for subs with very deep bass, go for a sub with a larger magnet or even 15's. But with the price from Sonic, I guess I can't really complain. All in all, if you want a good choice in subs and want to stay at a reasonable price, go with the Type R.

A+

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

Alpine is famous for premium products. The type r line continues this tradition. The alpine sub hits amazingly hard and is amazingly low priced on sonic electronix. WHen matched with an amplifier from alpine however, be sure to test for true rms wattage as the alpine amplifiers tend to put out more power than advertised. IT may say it pushes 600w rms @ 2 ohms, but it can actually be pushing around 700.

Bottom line, this is a wonderful product, and I'm am going to get another one. This will be my first purchase from here, my first time owning a type r, but not the first time hearing one.

Great sound when in the proper enclosure

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

This subwoofer sounds real good when in a proper enclosure, however, this subwoofer does not do very well in a sealed enclosure, so i recomend getting a properly ported enclosure, and it will sound much better & louder then with a sealed enclosure.

This subwoofer has a excellent sound quality for a subwoofer in its price range. Just a single Alpine Type R subwoofer, in a properly tuned ported enclosure will make your windshield wipers bounce off your window.

I Purchased this sub about three months ago and first put it into a 1.0 cubic foot box. I kept it in that box for a while and realized that it needed to be in a larger box. Amazing sub. make sure you put it into a larger box than recommended. This sub will pound harder than anybody at my school.

I have one of these pushed by a kenwood 1100 watt monoblock amp and it is in a custom box that i built just to the numbers alpine recomends and this thing absolutely pounds. It hurts my ears to listen to for more than a few minutes. It vibrates everything in my car. I would strongly recommend this sub to anyone who is looking for a lot of bass....it will get the job done and the price isnt even that much. I can have it one and people can hear it 2-3 blocks away. its insane

best subs ever

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

So im 17 years old,and i wanted 2 have a thumping system. i went to best buy and heard these. WOW!!
i just stood there and watched as they played. The song playing was Lean wit it rock wit it by:DFB. they were playing on an 800 watt kenwood class d amp. so the next day i bought them. but i decided to go with a bigger amp. so i searched around and found a PYLE 2000 watt mono amp. that pushes out 700rms @4ohms and 1000 watts @2 ohms. so it was the best match ever.i put them in a audio innovations vented box from b*** b**. and hooked it up 3 weeks ago. OH MY GOD!!! it shakes everything in my car. Oh by the way i hit 152Db at a local competition. SO in short BUY THESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfect subs

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I've checked over the web for months before buying new subs for my accent 99 hatchback.

The alpine type R were highly suggested everywhere. You know when a product is great when nobody on the web diss it. That's the case with the 1242d or 1212d.

So I hooked two into 1.3 separated chamber powered by an hifonics 1606d. At first, i tought my cheap pionners subs were louder, but those were cleaner.
Then, me and one of my friend build a 4.2 net ft/cu enclosure tune to 32hz and now.... that's insane. Everybody want to get in my car to hear them. My whole car is dynamated, but the subs make everything shake anyway. The Sound pressure is inbelievable. Don't know how i hit, but it's over 140 that's for sure. I can't stand in the car more than few secs at a time.

So, buy those, get yourself a big ported box, get youself ear plug and listen to those subs. Even with -32 db attenuation, the bass is jaw dropping loud and hard hitting. Song like "i wanna love you" by akon are ridiculous

I bought a pair of these subs and put them in a sealed enclosure hooked up to a Hifonics 1206Bxi running at 1 ohm impedance. These subs hit pretty hard but nothing to write home about, I think that the amp is drawing more power than my Tacoma can handle and therefore not really pushing these subs to there limit. I have two of these hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate RF 7 amp. I have them running at 4Ohms so I'm getting at least a total of 1000 watts from my amp. They pound hard and with accuracy. The only subs I've had or heard that were better are JL's. I also have a Kicker L7 05 in a Kicker(Godzilla) box....the Alpine's don't get as much SPL as my L7, but I think the reason why is the box. The box I have them in was custom made for JL W6's version 1's...which had an RMS of 300 watts each. So once I get a new box, I hope I'll get just as much SPL as the Kicker with as much SQL as JL's!

One heck of a sub!

The following review is for a previous version (SWR-1242D).

I got one last week and it hits so low in my 1.4 cubic foot sealed box. It should be in a smaller box but this one was already built. The banana connectors are very handy but note that it does not come with any mounting hardware. It comes with recommended box dimensions also. This one 12" sub rumbles the hell out of my car and the best part is that it goes louder! I bought this sub based on reviews on this website and I don't regret my purchase one bit even though it cost me $370 Australian. I would recommend this subwoofer to anyone!
