Awesome subwoofer!!

I purchased this sub about 7 months ago as a replacement for my blown hifonics sub. The difference is amazing. Just the weight of the magnet alone was nearly doubled compared to the cheap hifonics sub. It hits hard, clearly, and accurately. I only have it hooked up to a Kicker ZX300.1 amp and this thing really puts out the power. With the gain only turned up between halfway and three quarters, it makes the hair on my head stand whenever I pump out tunes. It's very good quality and made exceptionally well. I purchased it for $80 from s
SonicElectronix and I can say that I will definitely buy from them again. Shipping was very quick as well!

Best Subs E ver

Great subs! I put them in a truck which has very limited space and the low profile fit the truck and they still hit really hard!

Good for trucks

Amazing sub for trucks had two of these in a single cab s10 and it was loud enough to flex my wind shield a little for not even breaking the hundred dollar mark these are by far the best for the money truck subs around for cars however I would recommend upgrading to type r's both however are very very good subs.

Ok sub

Ok sub….for a couple of months. I was very pleased when I got the sub. Pretty shallow mount and you don’t need a big box. I had it running off a MTX JH300 so it wasn’t getting a whole lot of power but still fried the voice coils in about 6 months.

Good Sub, Awful for my Amp

The subwoofer sounded like the greatest thing to ever sit in the trunk of my car. However, the only problem was that when wired in parallel, my Alpine MRP-500 overpowered the amp. After about 2 months (as mentioned in another review) it burned out. Use a less powerful amp and hope for great results.

awsome subs!!!!!

these subs are awesome i love them i've herd many subs before and ive installed several different brands and so far i like the alpines the best a friend of mine bought a set of the Type-R's and they were insane i couldnt even stay in his truck when he would turn them up. they wer a bit much for me so i took it a step down with the Type-S's and im still extremely impressed for only being 300 rms each there awesome and they take one HELL of a beating i have them in a sealed box hooked up to a 900 watt rms audiobahn A16000V at 4ohm and they POUND!!!!!!! i cant turn the gain up more then a 1/4 of the way cause i cant keep my rear view mirror on lol i would recomend these to anyone looking for a great sub at a great price. i promise if u have these things hooked up to a good amp you wont be disappointed

Alright subs

I had 2 of these in a sealed box for about 4 months hooked up to a Alpine MRP-M500. About a month ago one of them blew and the other has been producing a burnt smell even when the gain is low. I would recomend these subs to someone who wants sound quality over volume.

Pretty Good

I had these subs for about 4 months and they were pretty good. They bump pretty loud. They Shook my whole car! Made my trunk go CRAZY! Even with it insulated. People down the street called the cops on me because they were so loud. Woke up the old man down the street and made him come up to my car and asked me what was in my trunk. I had them running at about 600 watts a piece. Just get them hooked up right and you wont be disappointed. Had them running on a JBL BP1200.1. These are great for the price. Just buy them!

Great sub

I have bounced back a forth between Rockford and alpine. I had a type r first then i switched to 2 type s 12's..And i loved the type s's way better than i like the type r. The type r hit lower and such obviously but the type s hit harder and better quality bass. Then i went to rockford fosgate p3 and it was ok...not my favorite but now i went to the type x running it on a 2 ohm load at 2000 watts and its very loud..but i love it..But if anyone here is debating on the type R vs the type S it all depends on the music you want to listen to but I think all around the S's are better than the R's.

Great Price

Wow is all i have to say about this subwoofer and the price on this website. Any store you go to wants at least $110 for this sub. I have two of these in a custom alpine box hooked up to a 1500w alpine amp and i have been pulled over 6 times in a year. A definite must buy.

This sub hits pretty good. My friend helped me install it and he was comparing this one to the sub he has in his truck and although his was a little deeper, he loved the sound of this sub and so did i.

great SQ sub!

I am a car audio installer, I do this for a living, and a car audio Fanatic (I am more of an SQ kinda guy, but I like a good back rub when I crank a dirty dubstep track...)

That being said, the Type S is a great SQ subwoofer, it "snaps" more then it "grinds", it blends beautifully with your mids, and it really plays in a linear fashion...

Both sealed and ported box will play fine but if you go ported, don't tune it too low or else, it has a tendency to botom out quite easy (wich could explain some of the bad reviews based on the fact that they blew the sub quickly... poor box desing is the same as having a bad sub, both the box and the sub needs to be matching and good quality otherwise, you just wasted your money. Box is 50% of the sound, put the same sub in 3 different boxes and it will play in 3 different ways...)

I do not suggest that sub for a "bass heavy" setup, go with the Type R for SPL... But for a Loud SQ setup, Type S all day, you won't be dissapointed! It's got the quality that you expect from a brand like Alpine!

P.S. DO NOT OVERPOWER THE SUB! GIVE IT A CLEAN SIGNAL.

Sounds great!

I put this sub into a F-150 MTX Thunderform enclosure, powered by an alpine MRP-M500 amp. It sound great, and the price was right also. No complaints on this purchase.

Don't hook it up at 2 ohms it get's way to hot, I've had it for about two month's in a small ported box behind the seat of my single cab gmc, it sound's great but i could use a bigger box!

Alpine SWS-1243D

Woofer is a pile of junk. It burned up after about two months. I would never buy another one even if it was $40.00. The worst speaker I have ever owned. Don't buy one!!!!

Hard Hitter! by E=Mc² St. George

All I can Say is HOLY $#!* this thing hits hard I have this hooked up to an Alpine 450W v power amp and with 450w alone it feels like my jeep GC is going to Explode!!! only complaint is I had it jumped for 2 ohms to get the max 450w from my amp and the dual voice coil got smoking hot... and I do mean Smoking!!! so I re did the jumpers to 4 ohms and all is well, its not as powerful as the 2 ohms but still a hard hitter if you need a 2 ohm sub better to get the sws-1223D from sonicelectronix

best subs i have ever had!!!!!

I have 2 of these in my 06 chevy under the backseat with an old kenwood 1000 powering both and a $40 dual deck and they hit so hard! They are very clean and I haven't found a song yet that they can't dominate! I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want to pay a lot but wants an insane system!!! They keep up with my friends 3 12s with 1000 watts to each in a Durango no problem!!!!
