Tempermental, But Does the Job

I bought this for my 2006 convertible mini cooper. An audio/ alarm shop was able to install this with no problem. The ipod output cable is one of those older 30 pin lightening styles so I had to buy an adapter, which was fine.

When this works properly the sound is great, the ipod charges, you can see the title of the song, and you can change songs using your stereo or steering wheel vs having to use the ipod itself.

I have no trouble when I use my brand new iPhone. However, when I use my ipod touch which is only a year and a half old (5th generation), 75% of the time the screen on my stereo just says "attached" and won't register each song. This is a bigger problem than you think bc it's not just the slight inconvenience of not being able to read what song you're listening to on the stereo, you also can't advance tracks using your stereo or steering wheel, you have to use the ipod. I learned through some research that you have to make sure your ipods screen is off and locked so that it knows that you don't want to operate through the ipod, you want to operate through the stereo. As a result, each time i plug the ipod back in i have to go through 5 mins of plugging, unplugging, turning it on and off, changing modes on the stereo several times before it will act right. Ultimately I am going to have to get an additional ipod that I can just leave plugged in in the car so that I don't have to go through this ritual every time.

Other than that, once it's operating it's great, and this problem doesn't exist with new model iPhones.

I have not used the satellite connection but was disappointed to learn that it does not work with the cigarette lighter/portable style sirius satellite tuner, which is what I have.

Overall despite the bugs, a good product and great way to bring my car later into the 21st century.
