Vega Pro Knocks!

This woofer had some good specs compared to others that I wanted to buy. The staff at Sonic had good things to say about this so I gave it a shot.....Got it hooked up to 500W rms and this thing knocks for blocks! I want to get one more but waiting to get a new amp with more power. It has a really cool terminal to change impedance with out wires too! I highly recommend this woofer that wants to be louder than his buddies with over priced big name brands. Im a Cerwin Vega fan for sure now.

Perfect bass

I purchased 2 of these and they bang I got them in my single cab pickup in a seal box but I'm thinking of ordering 2 more and cutting into the bed and doing a blow through I would highly recommend these subs by far the nicest cerwin Vegas I've owned for the price

Great Value

Needed decent bass on a budget, this sub had good specs for the price, and I liked the looks and Cerwin Vega name (even though it's hardly the same company as the old-school stuff).

Installed two in a dual (separate chamber) 12" ported enclosure, with approx 1.7cu. ft NET volume each, tuning is approx 36-37hz. This is close to the recommended size by the manufacturer. Did some box modeling in WinISD beforehand and it's clear that a ported enclosure favors SPL (for this driver) over sound quality-- huge gains between 30-45hz boosts SPL/volume enormously over a sealed box. Great for volume/output, not the best for sound quality-- I would suggest tuning as low as possible (28-30hz), which will reduce the peak somewhat and give greater low frequency extension below 35hz.

I'm pleased with the results-- I've heard subs that sound better, and have heard subs that get louder. The catch is none of them were this affordable. It's a good mix of SPL and SQ-- gets PLENTY loud and the SQ is decent enough for most any type of music I listen to. If you're on a budget, these are an excellent value.

I'm running an Audiopipe APMI-1500 amp-- at 12V, it is probably putting out about 550-600W/ch. clean power to each sub. At max volume (without distortion) the subs get warm, but I've not smelled any voice coil burning and the subs don't show any signs of being overworked at that power level.

Given that it's in a ported enclosure, a subsonic filter is a must, because the driver will unload below tuning frequency. I have mine set at 35hz so that it tapers volume off below that frequency. If you don't set one, you'll likely damage the sub suspension, or even bottom the sub out.

This driver has a 10.7" cutout which makes it rather small for a 12"-- the benefit is that it fits in most any 12" enclosure, but the cone area isn't as large as some other 12" subs-- but then the larger 12" subs sometimes require you to cut out a larger opening. So this attribute is not a good or bad thing, just something to be aware of. Just looking at it, it almost looks like a large 10" sub-- which was probably just what I needed because as it is, the box I bought just BARELY fits in my trunk.

As long as these hold up well (time will tell) I'd recommend giving them a shot. I haven't used enough subs in this price range to say whether these are the BEST 12" sub for the money, but I can certainly say you can do a whole lot worse. Glad I bought them.
