Keeps blowing me away more and more!
This sub just keeps hitting harder and lower! I'm amazed and blown away! I was underwhelmed for a while there because I realized that I actually killed my previous sub by sending a very strong and very clipped signal to it by having the gain set too high for my head unit's preamp voltage. To reach the ~250W RMS the amp is rated for with my head unit, I need the gain knob LESS than half way up. Any more than that and it starts distorting, and this is not because of the sub but because I'M SENDING A CLIPPED SIGNAL FROM MY AMP. I feel like I've officially made that step from n00b to experienced installer. I had read all the instructions and guides before and never understood what they meant by matching the head unit's preamp voltage. Now I do and I know how not to kill a sub (and/or amp, for that matter).
Anyway, I had never broken in a sub and this sub is STILL blowing me away! It's hitting harder and it does better throughout the entire range. The lower notes (centered in the mid to high 30Hz range) I could barely feel at the start are now making the car have a slow, deep vibration when they hit (remember it's a sealed box). Being a 400W sub I feel like playing it full-blast at 250W RMS is good enough as 'breaking it in' and it is just finally beginning to impress me. It's hitting almost as hard as the Memphis sub that was getting a clipped signal with a few extra watts to compensate for my bass-trap trunk (thick leather seats, kills any bass trying to come from right behind you). Right now I'm keeping my rear seat's backrest down so I can feel the full effect of the sub.
I just can't wait to give it 400W. OMG. What a great sub. If 'you get what you pay for' is true 99% of the time, the HFX12D4 is the 1%, by far!

I just bought this, and installed it in my 2000 accord. Don't be fooled by the price, this thing kicks. I hooked it up to my Pioneer GM-5500T amp putting out around 400 watts RMS. This sub sounds great so far.

I've had these subs two of them hooked up to a crunch 1500 powerzone amp in a sealed box and they bump!! I've had them for two weeks and still working great! I had a previous set of subwoofers that hit great lows and I'd say that these subs don't hit great lows but they hit really crisp mids and highs :) I love them either way at great price I don't mind I'll probably get a third 12 that mainly hits great lows to even out :)

Good sub for moderate power systems. Doesn't like peak power tho. Went thro 2 of them with 750 watts max. If your going to dump some power into your system (+1000 wats), subs are not the place to save some $$.

I bought two of these and I installed them in my Honda Civic. Have them wired at 4 ohms and they rock my little Honda. I don't even have them in a ported box. I've had them for a month. The only downside are the wiring terminals.

I have some custom speaker enclosures built in 1975. The woofers have been replaced over the years due to the foam surround deteriorating. These have a more durable treated nitrile rubber that should last and slightly larger voice coil. The speakers sound better than the originals!

i bought a set of these to replace some blown woofers in my house cabinets. of course after reading reviews i was curious since a lot of people have great things to say. i'm running mine in some older sear's fisher cabinets with decent crossovers ( not sure on specs ) off of a technics 5.1/stereo and in stereo mode i get about 150 watts per channel.
first you have to rip the plastic magnet cover off the back cause i could tell it was going to rattle just tapping on it. i wouldnt compare these to my L5's in my 7 cube ported box, but wow they sound amazing! my wife was amazed, and my brother in law who thinks he's an audio engineer was thoroughly impressed. i can't speak for the sound in a car. if i had them in a car i wouldnt feed the pair more than 1000 watts at most since they sound so good at lower power. if you are reading this i would say do it. buy one or 2 or what ever cause they sound good and only cost 35 bucks. absolutely perfect for house stereo woofer replacement. i gave it a lower ease of use score since you have to rip the stupid plastic cover off right away

I've been a car system fan for many years and had alot of setups. These Hifonics Subs are more than you can ever expect from a low priced subwoofer like this one. If you are looking for a setup of two or more speakers these are the best. Great looking, powerful, CHEAP(money wise) and built to last. I have 3 of them and let me tell you they hit so hard my ears ring. Oh yea one more thing Sonic Electronix - a super glue should come with these subs cuz my rear view mirror fell right off. :)) That should tell you (buyers) that these product is worth of money. Thanks for reading this hope I helped.

found this helpful.Not Cheap Subs!
These subs may be priced very low, but they kick VERY hard. Almost as good as my friend's Kickers. Of course it's not broken in yet so, I think it can hit harder than the Kickers pretty soon. Bought 2 of these, maxxlink amp wiring kit ($29.99 here), Autotek 1000.2 amp, and a Ground Shaker box ($59.99)! All with $200! Cheap doesn't mean bad. Get a good amp, wires, and box and you're good to go! Trust me, these will not disappoint!

I purchased this sub not knowing much about it, but I have it hooked up to my Hifonics 1000d at 2 ohms in a ported box and it KNOCKS!, the bass is so crisp and clear, I really was blown away. Most people think I have a much larger sub. Great job Hifonics! If you are on a tight budget, do not hesitate to buy this sub.

The hifonics hfx12D4 is the best subwoofer on the market if your on a budget, yes the price may scare you, you say well with the sub that cheap how could it possibly be true that it sounds to good, well take it from me, i was very unsure of the purchase i made with this sub, i strictly went off of reviews, however, this subwoofer i my home theater sub, it hits. i owned 2 alpine type R 12s, so believe me i know what it means when a subwoofer hits. but the cold hard truth is, this sub is amazing the quality is so precise you cant help but to be cautious. BUY THIS SUBWOOFER YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!

found this helpful.great with one easy fixable flaw
because of the design or the cage. the plastic cage rattles against the metal right below it. at first i had thought i had messed up my friends subs. then i realized because of the design of the cage it made it rattle. its a VERY easy fix. just go to your local hardware store and get some all purpose silicone or caulk and put it right underneath the plastic cage inbetween the plastic and the metal. let it dry. hook up your subs. problem solved! these are great subs. for the price of the subs i think its worth spending an extra 5$ and putting silicone on it.
one of my FAVORITE subs. they hit NICE AND HARD. i would definitely recommend

Great deal!... bumping just as hard as some 130$ subs. Embarassing to see these overpriced brands like kicker and pioneer get thought of as the best when these "not so famous" brands throw out better deals with better quality. I have just one of these in a sealed box and it even moves my rear view mirror a bit. For the price you cant go wrong by ordering this.

I got 2 of these and was surprised with what I got for under forty bucks each, they sound great, and look decent, however as some other people have stated, the plastic cover on the bottom is really annoying. I'd recommend using rubber cement or sealant to keep the plastic piece from rattling on the basket

found this helpful.Cheap Price = Cheap Sub
I bought one of these subs just because I already had a ported box that fell within the recommended enclosure requirements. 1.8 cu ft tuned to 35 hz. First of all, the sub looks good from the front. the rear looks kinda cheezy. Its lightweight. OK construction. Installed in box. Noticed a rattling sound just moving box around on shop floor. Turns out to be the magnet cover. Tried it anyways. Powered it with a PPI Sedona 550.1 which should be perfect for this sub's rating.
The rattling sound got way loud. Immediately removed sub from enclosure and ripped the magnet cover off. That helped with the funky noise.
The sound output of this sub is pretty good for rock. If the box is tuned say around 40 hz, it should slam pretty good for the price. However, when the lows kick in, this sub falls off BAD!!!! Not good for Rap or Hip Hop. Sounded like it wasnt getting enough power, but I know it was.
All in all, not bad for the price, but not good enough to warrant purchasing again. Not really worth the time and effort to install these subs. Just a cheap experiment for me.
73
found this helpful.pretty good for the price
I bought 4 of these. One: to replace a sub that I blew. 2: as an experiment to see how well these subs actually are. $110 for all of them, why not? Ill call these subs EXTREME BUDGET SUBS. Baskets are plastic chrome. I have them in a 4-12's prefab separate sealed chambers. I have all each pair hooked up in series/parallel for a final 2ohm load on a RE Audio ZTX 5000.1 amp. According to my amp specs, at 2ohms im getting 1700 watts rms. Using my DMM and OHMS LAW CALCULATOR, I set the voltage so my amp is only pushing out 1600 watts rms. After 2-1/2 weeks of being easy on them to break them in some, meaning keeping volume around 15-18 out of 35.I started pushing them HARD. Volume at 27-30. All 4 are loud as hell. my kids wont get in my car if I put volume at 30. Theyre older teens, NOT YOUNSTERS. My car is a 2007 ford focus 4 door. Playing DECAF/bass songs that have very low notes I dont recommend for ling periods if time. These things heat up quite a bit trying to keep up and I have smelled the voice coils a couple of times. Maybe because I only took it easy on them for 2weeks. I would not recommend putting more that the rms rating through them. ALL IN ALL....im impressed with them for the price. My review is based on the 1 month that ive had them so far and for the price.

I got two of these and they're pretty good for the price. I've had them for over a week now and they do hit pretty hard. I have them hooked up to a cheap nitro amp and it's powering them but for the kind of music I listen to these subs can't really handle it. They're great for country and rock music but not songs with deep low bass.

I have these in a 1.75 cubic feet per chamber ported and let me just say wow. These are cheap and give lots of spl. I have two Rockford Fosgates and these hit harder for less then 1/3 of the price! Overall these are wonderful subwoofers.

found this helpful.Amazing Value
I have 3 of these in a slot ported ebay box in my game den being powered via a Behringer EP2500 amp wired parallel / series for a final load of 6-ohms (meter reads closer to 5-ohms which is a plus). They only have a few hours on them so they are a little bit stiff still. They are the best value out there as far as I am concerned and Sonic got them to me within a weeks time well packaged and un-damaged. Although not a typical installation, they MORE than fill a 1,000sq.ft. room with authority and will do the same in a car. I am giving them about 1,400RMS and they take it all. My ONLY complaint is the connection terminals (spade style). A little bit of soldering is no big deal though, especially for the price point these are at. Very satisfied and would highly recommend them to anyone.

I've never been so impressed with a product until I've invest my money in these things. If you're on a budget and you want loud reliability go ahead and click that purchase button because you wont be disappointed.
70
found this helpful.Better than previous model
I have 2 of the older HFi12D4 in one box and two of the HFX12D4 in another, both in parallel, so they took same exact power and the Hfi burned up at around 250W RMS (1000 divide by 4) while these remained unaffected.
They sound great, and even though the HFi12D4 looked prettier with the chrome on the edge, and the nice pressure terminals. This one is better because this HFX12D4 actually outperforms them very slightly AND take more power so they won't blow on you at higher watts!
The HFX12D4 are supposed to replace those HFi12D4 anyway.
These woofers are a good alternative to the expensive competition woofers because they SOUND good and they are LIGHTER so the weight won't drag your car down, especially if you have a sporty car you want to keep weight at a minimal.
They're not as loud as the loudest, but they are great for lower power setups as they sound deep.
I would say they are as loud as any woofers around $100 and below price range, and have a nice bassy hit to them.

Have had everything from W6,TypeR,Comps,CVR,IFINITY,VEGA IT,MTX 8500,ECLIPSE,RF P3,TypeS,TypeE,Coustic, W3,and more, got these ones on EBAY $48 pair and a Boss 1600/2 As I was unemployed and needed my bass fix on a broke man budget was a sceptic.I had them about 1/3 gain to break in at 2OHM. They have better than impressed me for price.Only issues as most people have said on here is crap terminals and plastic dust covers.I Put two in a Obcon labyrinth dual slot port box with 3/4 spacer for extra Cu.ft they Hit HARD. Almost better than CVR'S. EITHER remove or glue plastic basket and DON'T over power & take time break them in. I now have them mostly up on gain just trying to fine tune the bass on my Kenwood Excelon 397 is at -6 and they RUMBLE THE S*#@ out of my 2001 TAURUS. I order another pair so I can run a triple and at $75 for three it will out perform setups TRIPLE in cost. my deck cost more than subs/amp. If you Take time hook up right break em in and tune I have no doubt they will perform beyond expectation.Would probably be best uf have extra $$$ run RF 400/2,KICKER 400/2, Alpine Mrp 500,JL 360/2 OR 500/1(not slash), other wise a cheaper 1500-2000 watts monoblock or 2ch will match best for 2 of these. Watch EBAY AS WELL can get Boss/Power Acoustik/Planet Audio Etc. in that wattages around $60 and the other Namebrands Around $100. I just scored a power acoustik BAMF 2000/1D @ $93 to run three of these should push and not overpower giving a long life(longer than I will have them)

Not only does it look cool, but it sounds great. Put it in a vented box from Sonic with correct recommended volume spec. I am powering it with an "old school" Hifonics "Odin" amp with 75 watts per channel. It produces "vulgar" bass......For that kind of performance, with relatively little wattage, it is very efficient. It is similar sounding to my Alpine single coil 12 inch. Without a scope, it is hard to tell which has lower frequency response.

I looked at these subs for awhile now my cousin got one i hooked it to my 800 watt rms legacy amp no gain in a sealed 1.25 cube foot box and it hit just as hard and my 2 duals do in a bandpass i was amazed on how great it sounded. So i bought my self 2 today will be switching out the duals for these. Get these if you are tight on money they will hit harder then kickers if you know what you are doing.

Right out of the box and into another box, lol.
I have it hooked up to an alpine mrp-m500 amp with the gains corectly set then pulled back a little, as I want to have even amounts of bass in comparison to the other speakers. This sub sounds excellent, I know you get what you pay for but this is too good! The sub hits hard and clean and can handle the s*** I give it. I have the sub wired down to 2 ohms at 500watts, which is the happy max of my amp. It handles the max power without issue.
The only drawback is that poorly affixed cover on the magnet, some frequencies make it vibrate, but it can only be heard when my trunk is open and I have my volume past 70%. Solution? Tape wrap your favorite tape along the gap between the cover and the chassis of the speaker. Viola best speaker ever! You don't get this quality at this price anywhere else.

I bought 2 of these to go in a ported box. They are currently under powered by about 150 watts or so, but they still hit pretty hard in the back of an 07 Aveo5. Would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for some pretty good bang for the money.
Only one small complaint though, One of the dust caps on the sub started to come off shortly after the break in. Fixed it with some thin compound hobby glue. Other than that I love em'. Also would have been nice to have some different terminals than the ones on there but no big.

found this helpful.Amazing, especially for the price
My life is littered with Subs of all sizes and brands. I've probably owned 20 different ones, and currently have 4 or 5 sitting on the shelf in the garage. To me, the mostly sound the same, and I've spent $30 to $500 on subs, and they still sound mostly the same. I always like Hifonics stuff, either old school, or newer (Maxxsonics) era, especially their bass equipment.
Built a box for a friend, and decided to try this sub. WOW, just WOW. A great solid sub in general, but for the price, HOLY COW. The thing just slams, and is responsive enough that it can be subtle too. And its not even broken in yet. Powered by a Hifonics Gladiator 1000W amp, the combo is simply awesome. I can't imagine there being a bass section that is better than this.
Now mind you, this is not built like a competition sub, with cast aluminum baskets, 30 pound magnets, and spiders made of space age materials, but it also cost 35 bucks.
You basically can't go wrong with this product. Anyone who complains about the Hifonics HFX12D4 just has expectations that are completely misaligned with reality. Its a bargain, it sounds amazing, it has terrific texture and can handle subtle, as well as earth shattering bass, and it even looks decent.

I have a 15 inch in my Yukon and wanted more db's to pound my chest. After reading many positive reviews about this sub, I decided to give it a chance. I purchased it with the 1truck12 box and added about 6oz of polyfill to the box. The sub does not come with push terminals but I do not mind. It looks good and is built surprisingly well for a $30 sub. I wired it to 2 ohms and have the whole circuit wired to 4 ohms. Boy oh boy! I feel it in my chest now! I have significantly deeper and louder bass! 2 or more of these sub's will shake your ride and make you smile. Thanks Sonic :)

I would recommend these not bad at all for the price $30 can beat that, but if your looking into being loud and rattle other cars these aren't your subs. These are nice for little setups to have some thump, so far I ordered 4 of them blew them within 10 minutes, but I have to say nice sound quality came from them, nothing in spl loudness range these came no where close.

I have 2 of these in a sealed box, wired parallel/parallel to the HFi1500D at 1ohm, tuned to 780watts. These things slam for the price they are at. I was surprised! I now plan on using until I can get a chance to upgrade more.

I have one of these in a sealed box and it's getting 600 watts RMS. It hits the lows really good, sometimes the highs hit hard, but it could be a little cleaner. In my single cab truck it fills the cab with nice clean bass. Just the highs could be better. Haven't tuned it properly cause I havent had the time, just wanted the system in quick for a long trip. I'm upgrading to two 15's so then I'll take the time to tune it. But even for how it is quickly tuned it sounds great.

I owned the HFI (previous model) and loved it. This new version is cheaper... and I can tell. I installed one and it buzzed like crazy. Ordered a second one... also buzzed like crazy. It's the plastic cover on the back. Totally pointless. Pry the cover off to fix the buzzing. Then you have a non-buzzing, crappy subwoofer.

Just got two of these this week. I was looking for good cheap subs, and Hifonics always seems to be there. They hit hard with the autotek atx1600.2, but i think once i break them in im going for something bigger. Owned some older hifonics subs a while back and they lasted forever until i sold them. Not the best subs in the world of course, but if you are on a budget go ahead don't be scared, they are definitely worth the money and sound much more expensive.

I have 4 of these subs in a 10.6 cubic ft ported box tuned to 32 Hz powered by a NXD5500 and they hit hard for being a cheap end sub. They have an awesome look to them, but Hifonics could have made a better basket, and changed the terminals. Overall, it is a great buy.

Got a pair of these to hold me over until I can afford something bigger/better, but these performed beyond my expectation. They sound great out of my slot-ported box, the only downside is they will overheat if you let them, but with a slot-ported box it is very easy to smell the heat, and turn them down. Longtime Hifonics fan, great subs for such a low price!

I have this sub in a ported box about 1.7c ft per sub and they sound great for the price, ive had rockford, diamonds, american bass, memphis, mtx, XXX, and a few others and im not saying these are better than those but price to what you get these are worth it they sound really good but im not pushing them because they can't take the power lol. For someone just looking for bass here is a good choice.

I bought these because I wanted to try a new brand. Never owned Hifonics before. I bought two of these and a Hifonics 1000d amp to put in my 98 GMC Sierra ext cab. I haul my kids around sometimes and had to buy a dual 12" Pro downfire box. I also bought 1" spacers to get a little less depth, and stuffed it with polyfill for more airspace. I still think the box is to small for these subs. The set up sounds pretty good, but obviously not as loud as the 3 MA Audio 12"s in a triple box I had to sell. That thing was a beast. Anyway, not bad for the money. I will say, try and get better terminals for the subs, the stock ones are crap.

I bought these about 6 months ago at a retail store, i was scared at first because of the flimsy packaging. Anyhow, these subs run at about 400w rms each, i have two of them. I am running them at about 350w each because of the amp i have and these babies hit hard! They are a good buy if you are just starting out with audio electronics or simply if you just want a cheap reliable product! :p

These subs BEAT! I mean wow, its amazing how cheap these subs are in price compared to the sound they are able to produce. I purchased these subs awhile back as I was waiting to build a box. BUILDING THE BOX is the KEY to making your subwoofer perform at its best. Get the right box and a good amp and these subs will not disappoint.

found this helpful.Take the chance and you won't be sorry
I purchased 2 of these subs, and when i unboxed the subs, i noticed good construction and impedance was correct from the factory on both VC, cone felt pretty rigid, and the overall design was good. I wired the subs to 4 ohms using the supplied handbook with the subs...oh and by the way, if anyone from Maxxsonics happens to read this...please for the sake of humanity just put regular push terminals on the subwoofers. Spade style connectors work but are very annoying to say the least!! In any case, i put the two subs in a ported box i bought off of Sonics, the dual ported box, sounds great, very pleased for how low my budget was of less than $250, i have the 2 Hifonics subs running off of an 1800 watt max Boss Audio Onyx series Amp (Monoblock), 4 ohms-900watts roughly to both combined. I still need to find the right tuning on the amp to get the best sound but overall, I am very happy with everything and I would definitly recommend these subwoofers to anyone looking to get a GOOD not amazing sound from a small pocket, hope this helps!!!

found this helpful.Hooked on Hifonics? Count me in!
I just replaced a Memphis Power Reference subwoofer with this one. If you don't know about Memphis, look them up, they make quality hard-hitting subs. Well this Hifonics HFX12D4 sounds just as good and may actually even hit harder. It's only getting maybe 200W RMS if that from my 250W RMS amp that's turned up just a notch over half way. It hits very hard, it's not broken in, and it's missing out on 50w+ RMS that I will be giving it after break-in period is over. I can't wait to hear how hard it sounds when I can give it real power. I have it in a generic 1.25 Cu Ft sealed box, it's being powered by a Directed 250d amplifier, and I have it set to hit up to around 125Hz and it handles the high notes just fine. A more than formidable replacement for the old Memphis PR sub that I was running. Hifonics was the right choice.

I bought 3 of these (under $100) and put them in my car on a SoundStream Rubicon 2500.1d wired in series/parallel and im starting the break in now for the next few weeks before i put the amp to work on these subs. Looks good mounted, don't like the input terminals on the subs very rinky. And the plastic dust cap is just for looks. But it doesn't take away from the sound they produce now. But the shake i feel in my car just tuning the amp: wow. Had 2 cerwin vegas and they didnt shake me outside the car. But these will work till i can upgrade again and for the price buy as many as you want but keep the 4 ohm at the sub, it will burn it out if on a lower independence.
61
found this helpful.best for the price
I have 2 of these hifonics wired together to a 4ohm load briged to a hifonic zeus 500.2 and it hits hard. it also sounds very good. this is the very best for the price, especially if you are getting more than one.
62
found this helpful.Take the good with the bad
As the other reviews say, loud sub that makes decent bass for the money. Low end signs off (makes weird noise) so a subsonic filter would be handy with these subs. Bass drum kick hits hard for two twelves though. Quality leaves a bit to be desired as the terminal post on one was not attached right out of the box. Surround let go of the basket on one sub as well after about 10 hours. Nothing a zip tie and some cyanoacrylate glue didn't take care of. As said, for the price I guess you can't go wrong considering I've had similiar issues with high end subs before.

I orderd mine from eBay. All i have to say is wow. These things pound. I have them in a prefab box with a 820 watt spl amp in my 1993 blazer and these things really beat. I have all my bass and subwoofer gain on the deck turned down and they still hammer. Haven't even broke them in yet! A must buy for any budget system!!! Or anyone who wants beastin cheap bass!!! Good buy!!!

found this helpful.These woofers bang!
I purchased these woofers mainly because they were DVC and my previous woofers, JL audio's were not. I needed 3 so they were perfect and the right price. These speakers are the truth I have 3 bridged on a 1500 watt 2 autotek amp, purchased right off of sonic electronics. Even with the bass knob turned down and with the factory radio I have a rumble with the radio on anything past 5. I've only had them for 2 weeks so I cant speak on durability but reading the reviews helped me make my decision and I hope this review helps someone make theirs.

Bought 2 cause they were cheap and this was by far my best decision yet. Running them off a 1600w 2 channel amp they get louder then most of the kid's several hundred dollar systems at school. I would recommend these to anyone, just make sure they are in the right sized box.

linked parrallel at 2ohms in a 1.9 cu ft per sub rt enterprises vented box $55 on the bay, pushed by a pyle pla 2378 amp 250 watts rms at 2 ohm ( from sonic) these subs really shake my kia soul . Magnets are not huge maybe 30 to 40 oz, not competition subs by any means but for cost conscious they thump. Save yourself some headaches and take a flat head screwdriver and pop the wack caps off the back. Held on by a dollop of glue on the back of the magnet. One of mine was already off upon arrival. I've got $200 total in the amp, subs and box and am very satisfied... included booklet has good info... on cu ft for both sealed an vented boxes plus several easy to understand wiring diagrams

found this helpful.good for the money
I used two of these in my car in a box that had .98 cuft per chamber. These sub's call for 1.5 cuft per sub. Needless to say these subs didn't hit very low with my setup. I guess it also didn't help that they only have 6.5mm of xmax. In my particular setup the lowest note they would hit proficiently was about 40hz, loudness topping out at about 44_45 hz frequencies. At these frequencies these sub's actually got pretty loud. Just as loud if not louder than any other budget sub's I've tried! Needless to say, these subs are definitely worth it for the money, don't expect super low bass but they will definitely get loud. Only thing I did not like about these subs were the bare flat terminals to hook them up, I guess that's what you get for a budget though.

Wow is all i could say. Got them from a local dealer in my town, pulled them out of the box, and started beating the crap outta them. Got them to add to 2 Kicker CVR 12's, and was a little skeptical at first. But as they started getting broken in, the more surprised I became with them. Seem to be handling the power quite well. Entire setup is powered by an MTX RFL 600rms, all getting the same power. Amazed at how well a $40 sub handles the power. I don't know what the RFL 600 is actually capable of, but it's pushing the CVR's and the HFX's to their limits. BUT, the only complaint I have about this sub is the dust cap, seems a little flimsy. But other than that, a rock solid sub ready for whatever you can throw at it. Will be buying again for my 8 12's setup that I plan on doing in my F-150.
59
found this helpful.Great subs!!!!
Well to start off I bought these subbs kinda on a whim because of there price and was more than pleased with what I have got. I would recomend these to anybody looking for a system that could beat kicker and stand with jl I have only found one problem with them and its my girlfriend has a hard time breathing so she doesn't like them as much as I do but they have handled everything I've thrown at them not to mention that there rated at 400 watts rms and I broke them in rather well by running them at about half for a month (hard I know but well worth it) now I'm running 500 watts rms through them on a daily basis

found this helpful.amazing for the price
For the price they are the best on the market I think there around $** now. These sub have and amazing sound and clarity for what it is but it can only handle about 500watts as a pair as I had them.but if your on a budget get them
56
found this helpful.robbie_d_355
I am little disappointed with the quality. It didn't produce bass with my Hifonics 500 watt amp and popped hard(not a bass hard) with my Kicker 300 watt amp. I eventually put the speakers in a real small box with an Old School Fultron ME50 amp and achieved mid bass at medium levels. It is what it is for the price. They will produce bass, just not clean, responsive, as a sub should to maintain a companies reputation.
60
found this helpful.Better than previous model
I have 2 of the older HFi12D4 in one box and two of the HFX12D4 in another, both in parallel so they took same exact power and the Hfi burned up after 6 months While these remained unaffected.
They sound great and even though the older model (HFi12D4) looked prettier with the the chrome on the edge, and the nice pressure terminals,
This one IS better because this HFX12D4 actually outperforms them very slightly AND take more power so they wont blow on you at higher watts!
These woofers are a good alternative to the expensive competition woofers because they have a good SOUND and they are LIGHTER so the weight wont drag your car down, especially if you have a sporty car you want to keep weight at a minimal.
They re not of course as loud as expensive comps,
but they still hit hard for lower power setups and they sound deep.
I would say they are as loud as woofers 2-3X their price,
but the key to most low cost woofers like these,
is to not overpower them .
So listen for their "hit" and back off your gain slightly from their,
for longer listening sessions .

I'll be straight forward I only bought these as a quick replacement after I blew my old 12s , good sub for the price well built looks decent and pretty light. I have it in a 2.0^cube ported box on around 400 true rms amp and its demanding more power. However, at 400 rms they seems like they are almost maxed out as far as I can see they are moving like crazy and the excursion is so violent the subwoofers look like theyre going to rip apart and i smell the coils getting hot at about 1/2 gain on the external gain knob I never back off of them until the amp cuts off..they draw alotta power surprisingly! They dont really get as low as other 12's I've had but I also was running a 900w rms Soundstream amp on them. I'll update once I throw my batteries back in the car for the amp and change to my Db Drive 1250. Im just not so confident that it can take a true 800 watts.

If any one is looking to get a subwoofer and you want something for the low with great sound. Get these! The reasons why I got these subwoofer because I'm a college student.... I'm not worry about the price. All I worry about is how much I want to spend.
I don't really care much about super loud system. I just want a good system with good sound quality. I've always have my bass on low while cruising down the beach or highway because I wear hearing aid. To be honest.... The sound quality is awesome! I don't regret getting these. I don't really care what other people think or say. This the best product I ever own. I'm looking forward to shop at sonic again in the future!

I was looking to take on a simple project: Can you build/assemble a dual 12" subwoofer box for use on a 5.1 channel home theater receiver/amplifier system set up in my shop. So I purchased two of the Hifonics HFX12D4 subs and a prefab dual 12" vented box. Powered with an external class d amplifier that pushes 300 watts I had it together in less that an hour and mounted on a shelf in my shop at home. The subs are still breaking in as I do not listen to music in the shops except for the weekends. I am very pleased with the increase in output and lower notes as I get more and more play time on them. It is a great sub for what you get dollar to "boom" wise. For my application they work great. Service and shipping time was fantastic from Sonic - only 2 days to my door.

Not bad subs for the money, you might not win any spl contests with them but for a budget system they will work just fine , I am running @ 600watts Rms to them mono , they will shake the rear view mirror , so they can hit hard

found this helpful.Sounds good (for the price)
The main thing I want to say in this review is; make sure you know what you are getting. With plenty of air space (2 cubic feet per sub) and no where near the peak power (around 100 watts RMS) per sub they sound great and should last a long time. Buy you cant over power these things on a cheap amp and expect them to last. I built a 8 cubic foot box ported at 34 hertz and ran 4 of them on an Alpine MRP-500 and they got very LOUD. http://imgur.com/3pw384k I would also expect them to last a long time at this power level, but don't know for sure as this was a build I did for a customers vehicle.

I bought 4 these subs as a temporary replacement. My old subs finally went out. At first they sounded ok but i had to slowly break them in. I was smelling the voice coils but after the break in i don't smell them no more. Currently running a Hifonics Brutus 30 year anniversary amp pushing 1700 at 2 ohms. I built a vented box tuned to 35. I can listen to all kinds of music from 70's music to rap. They hit pretty hard but i think it comes to how you design the box and setting your gains correctly. The only issues is the plastic cover on the bottom will rattle on the low notes so i took them off. I gave these subs four stars due to not having push terminals.

This is by far a good sounding sub. My issue is with the power ratings. It says it can do 400 watts rms. I played the sub only 2 days, and it blew. If you underpower the sub to only about 300-350 watts, you may be in a safe zone.

I bought a pair of these for the wife's truck and a month and a half later they were done. I tried to return these but Hifonics stated they don't accept returns unless it's a defect or shipping damage related. The "dust caps" are really there to cover up the pathetic size magnet. My uncle was impressed with the size of them when they came in. I had to remove the covers to have them fit my sub box. I sent a picture of them to my uncle which read "It's a small world after all" shocked on how small the backside was. He thought it was the funniest thing ever. These are cheap for a reason and I would suggest passing on them. If you are on a budget; there are other subs around the same price such as Boss which in my opinion are superior to these.

Love the subs, love the price. They sound awesome in my Honda CR-V but I think the ported box I have them in is crap so I will be trying a sealed box real soon.

I have read some good and some bad reviews about these sub's, but mostly good so I decided to give them a try. And I can say that these sub's does not handle wattage. I had them wired at 1 ohm on a 1500 watt mono block only giving it about 1100 watt rms, since they rated at 400 watts RMS each which should be good but they start distorting quickly and losing bass my amp is not even half way up. I even wire them at 4ohm and it's the same situation, good at low volume and losing bass at high volume. Wouldn't recommend to anyone wants good bass for cheap

i was planning a budget build for my sisters first car and didn't want to spend to much money doing it. I knew of these subs from awhile back and never really gave them a double look until i heard them in a car at a local shop. I was impressed how they sounded for low end budget subs, but that's just what im looking for. so i did a price research and found them here on SonicElectronix.com and said heck ill get these and im done. well move forward a week later, i installed them in a ported box to specs and used an old kenwood amp i had laying around, feeding them about 275-300 watts rms each, oh man it was very impressive and im glad i chose these lil bad boys. i would use these again and would recommend these for anyone looking to build a low power budget system that ll be perfect for a daily driver or for your first timers. these guys drop some nice boom for the price.

I needed a pair of entry level subwoofers. When I checked out the price, I was a bit skeptical. I installed them hooked up to my 2 channel amp pumping 375 watts RMS and they handled the power with ease, sounding like most high end setups. I really did not expect these subs to perform so well. They can thump so hard. But always break them in slowly. These are the best you can buy for the price!!!

These are great. If you are looking to enjoy your music and not looking to set off parked car alarms from 20 ft away then these are perfect. Especially if these are your first buy. They have great performance for the price. Respected brand in my book for over 10 years.

found this helpful.decent priced entry level sub
got 2 of these along with a sealed box. broke them in like you should with any sub woofer. sound very good for such a cheap sub. never had any problems with them. dont know if they will truely handle the full 400w rms power or not. only ran about 300w rms to each of them. very pleased with how they sounded when playing rock/metal (METALLICA) nice bass drum hits. sounded pretty good as well on pop and rap music. overall a good deal! id recommend them to anyone on a budget that wants some decent bass.

found this helpful.I've bought these before they take a beating unbeatable for the price good bump for the buck
Having owned these before I knew what to expect and for the price is unreal best bump for the budget buck.
25
found this helpful.Good for Entery level
For a 12 inch subwoofer, If you expect competition performance out of this sub, don't get it, if you want just something for the low end of your music, this works well for just that. This is entry-level, so don't expect to blow the doors off with this, however it does have good sound.
25
found this helpful.Great sub for the money
This is exactly the subwoofer you could hope for with the price tag. Decently punchy and has fairly good lows. The sound is gonna come down to your box size on this one IMO.

found this helpful.Cheap price, cheap subs
Don't buy cheap these cheap subs, If you want to install them without amp you'll be fine. I hook up with a 600 watt amp hooked them up to 2ohms. Subs only lasted 2 minutes into song and then burnt out. They look good but speakers suck.
25
found this helpful.Great product
Exactly as described and more. Loud deep bass without rattling noise
25
found this helpful.Decent for the Price
Subs hit hard sometimes, I feel that they have a decent frequency response as they only hit some bass notes hard and others not so much, seems good for the price, it's pretty good.
You get what you pay for I'd say! I may need to run a better amp or better EQ though so who am I to say.

found this helpful.Best Budget Subwoofer
Best subwoofer in this price range. Got one of these as a temporary sub, hook up to a Fosgate R1200D wired to 2 ohm, gain half way (400 rms). Great flex and deep bass tone for the price. Do not run over 600 rms as this sub cannot take it's peak power.

You can’t beat the price . They sound great in a ported enclosure
28
found this helpful.Great little sub for the price
Good little sub for the price. I purchased it for a home powered subwoofer setup. And it preforms pretty well in a 3.4cuft@24hz enclosure on 160w. Missing a little bottom end, but overall a great sub for 25 bucks. Only thing I hate is the ugly plastic magnet cover
25

Picked these up as a Duo.. who doesn’t like duo’s ;) if you know what I mean.
Anyhow they kick quite well. Doesn’t feel cheap or anything. Fairly easy to install.

found this helpful.Awesome bang for your buck! Great basic sub-woofer
Great Value for the money, sounds great for the price, however for the price obviously its not going to blow you away, you get exactly what you pay for a good basic sub-woofer.
I had these in as a temporary solution, and i ran them way over powered, all the time.
I was amazed the abuse they handled and for an entire year!

It pounds....Great value for under $50. I would recommend this sub to anyone on a budget and wanting a good sounding sub.

found this helpful.Love it
Only had it for about a week now, and its really powerful, only have it hooked up to a 200 watt amp, it pounds really hard in my jeep. only using it at about half its power and i couldnt ask for any more. Sounds as good as my brothers rockford fosgate
25
found this helpful.Surprised by performance
I had always been a JL guy at heart. I've owned mtx, fosgate, image dynamic and the list goes on. My budget is tighter than it used to be. This sub competes with those guys and at about 1/3 the cost or more. Deep sound crisp sound but can hit fast too if you like that double petal bass sound. I will buy more for my other car.
24
found this helpful.Excellent sub for the price
Blew up one of my mtx so i tried out 2 of these with a rockford prime r500-1 and immediately noticed quite a difference. Very nice at low to mid volumes. For a low dollar system that still pounds these haven't disappointed.

found this helpful.Great subwoofers for the price, love these Subs
I've been a car system fan for many years and had alot of setups. These Hifonics Subs are more than you can ever expect from a low priced subwoofer like this one. If you are looking for a setup of two or more speakers these are the best. Great looking, powerful, CHEAP(money wise) and built to last. I have 2 of them and let me tell you they hit so hard my ears ring. That should tell you (buyers) that these product is worth of money. Thanks for reading this hope I helped.

Bought 2 of these and a hifonics zxx1200.1d mono amp and stinger amp wiring kit and I installed.. the system hits , and the speakers are wired In at 1 ohm .. and they just keep taking the power and hitting harder and harder A+++

found this helpful. Not bad for the price
Nice sound for the price got two hooked up to a skar 750.1 sounds pretty good.. Had them playing for 6 hours driving from oh to tn and still work fine
23
found this helpful.Good Value Slow Shipping
good product had them before but blew them(my fault bad crimps) only part I don't like are the speaker connections but you get what you pay for and I knew what connections they had just something to be aware of. Only negative is they came in 4 days late wouldn't suggest ordering from here if you need something on a specific date. I didn't need them fast so I wasn't too worried about it and maybe it was just a one time thing that something got here late. this is the only thing i've ordered off of here. DEFINATELY DONT PUT 400 WATTS RMS TO THESE. I out around 250-300 each and that's fine. also don't push these too hard for too long(2+ hours hard)
23
found this helpful.Very good speaker
I have had a lot of speakers over the years and these ones take a beating I'm running a power acoustic 3000 to them and running 2 ohms I've been at 2 ohms about 2 years now and still holding up definitely would buy them again

This set of Hifonics were great but didn't do as well for my application being that I didn't have time to purchase a ported enclosure to hear the difference. Didn't do well in my Magnum wagon but did a hell of a job in my buddies BRZ.

Great value for cost very lightweight though and baskets rattle under excursion
Sound good on 250 to 325 rms I would not put a realistic 400 rms to these
But overall good budget subs
