In a slot ported box, BANGS!

I am only running a 300 watt amp to this for now because 1, its winter(freezing temps) cuz I don't wanna over work it and blow it cuz everything is so cold, and 2) its fairly new so I wanna break everything in for the first 6 months but shoot! This thing bangs so hard already I don't even know if I wanna upgrade my amp to the ZX750. This is plenty for me...

Great Sub

I bought this sub almost 2 years ago and its still going great. I have it powered by a Kicker 500.1 (actually rated at 609 watts RMS). I first had it in a 2 cu.ft. sealed box that I built using the proper materials and it sounded failrly good. Response could have been better, volume could have been better, and high notes could have been better, but it hit low end notes really well. So I decided to put it in a 1 cu.ft. box, which I also built and did everything but the size the same. Everything improved (except volume). SQ is great, response is great, it hits really hard, and it has good range. However, if I were to buy this sub again I would port it right away. I'm very pleased that I bought it, but I think a ported box would really show off its SPL potential. If you're going to have a sealed box for response and SQ, you might be better off going with a different sub, and probably not a square one.

Great buy

I just ordered one of these guys and I'm very happy with it. I can't wait to order the second one and I am thinking about adding a third. Great choice for anybody that's trying to beat down the block!

They are loud and take serious abuse

I have 2000 watts rms going to two of these in a ported box I custom built to kicker spl (big ported box) specs. When I turn the bass all the way up for about 30 seconds I can start to smell the subs from the ports. When I play it for more than 45 seconds, I can start to smell them from the front seat. This is only when I am playing it at full volume on very low frequencies. I have done this quite a few times and they still play like new. Keep in mind, I am running these at almost double their rated power and they are still kicking after a full year of this kind of abuse. Remember this is at full volume, which is when nobody including me can even stay in the car for more than 10 seconds. When it is all the way up my vision blurs and breathing becomes a challenge. I have heard many cars with the same amount of power and none have been equal including a soundstream sponsored truck with more power. So far I broke the back wiper off the back of my suv and made the rearview mirror fall. When I played it in the garage some boxes fell 10 feet away and drywall dust fell from the roof. I have the doors moving about a 1/4" with the windows up or down. When I pulled up behind my friend at a stoplight, he knew exactly who it was instantly. I bought mine for $300 for both so these are cheap at $130 each. I highly recommend these subs.

good sq

someone said that this sub has no SQ but they are wrong i have a bass worx SQ ported enclosure with a hifonics brutus running at 2ohms 1100w rms but the key is to run the bass eq a little higher but dont crank the gain. and im running the frequency at 100 on the amp, the sub hits every note thats thrown at it.

Pretty good sub

I had this baby hooked up to a MTX ta5601 @ 2 ohms in a 2foot box tuned to 32hz and it was loud. If you want SQ i'd buy something else but if your going for raw power and loud-ness by this or if you have some extra cash an L7.

WOW L5 hits so CLEAN

I have 2 12in L5's in a sealed box 1.3 per sub in my single cab Chevy. With Rockford Fosgate P1000.1bd amp wired down to 1ohm. They hit so hard and clean I had to buy better speakers because the bass was hitting so much louder with only half the volume up. Did I mention they hit very clean with the proper box. These are the best subs I have ever had and heard plenty. Wish I would have bought these sooner!!!

Truly an amazing subwoofer

I have installed over 50 audio systems in vehicles and have put together systems for friends and family for many years. I had read about and always wanted to try a Solobaric and finally got my chance to install one in my wife's Camry. I had to keep the cost down on this one so I went with the L5 and 4ohm to bridge down to 2ohm. I designed and built the box at 2.0 cubic feet for the SQ type sound and picked up a Fosgate Prime 500 to keep things on the economic side.

The sub is very efficient and butter smooth. The lower freq's just flow out like butter without that rough, vibrating sound. I doubt that I am pushing more than 200 watts RMS through it and it makes my wife wiggle around while the rear view mirror is useless and this is with only one speaker.

So, this is one truly awesome sub and by far, the best that I have ever installed. The unit's build quality is very good. I can only imagine the sound if I hooked it up to my Fosgate Power BD500. From this point forward, it will be Solobaric's for me.

Livin' Loud with Kicker L5

I bought a used 2 ohm version of this sub and have not been let down yet! I have it wired in series at 4 ohms on a Kicker KX600.1. Since the sub is wired at 4ohms it is only getting 300rms from the amp. I built a custom sealed box because the kicker sealed box was useless. This sub is in the back of a extended cab Isuzu Hombre and it gets stupid loud! I've been installing systems for years and this is hands down the loudest 12" I've heard on half of it's rms rating. Kicker has yet to let me down!

Amazing

This sub is amazing I have 2 of them in the back of my 05 jeep Cherokee and they kick so hard. I have a 2400 watt SPL amp going to both of them and I still think they can take more. The only problem I can see with these subs is that they might be too strong; they cause EVERYTHING in my car to vibrate.

I have 1 L5 paired with a Alpine MRP-650 at 2 ohms and it bannngs...I really was blown away. I allways went with Alpine everything and had every generation Type R and I had a Type X. This sub I can vouge for and its louder than my type r for sure. Kicker made my freakin day.

Lots of Boom with some decent SQ

This subwoofer is a great buy for a lot of "boom" listening. In my ported enclosure, I am pushing around 130db @ 30hz with only 400 watts. The thing has excellent SQ to when placed into the proper sealed enclosure, as well. I use it for both some Rap, and Hardcore Rock. Overall another good product provided by the Kicker team. Cons: The one downside to this woofer is the short Xmax, but if you can design an appropriate enclosure to work around this, you can gets lots of boom with this woofer.

Plenty of bass at a great price

The following review is for a previous version (05S12L54).

I have 2 of these in a small sealed box, and these things pound like made. They are in a Firebird (hatchback), and I have the head unit lows set on -3 so I can still hear the fronts. They will make your chest pound like mad if you give it enough power. I have them running off a Viper D1200.1 (600WRMS to each) and they may be able to take a little more.

I've got two of these hooked to a BLX 4000 in my truck, n they hit so hard, in a year ive gone thru three boxes. Ive got the head unit set as low as the bass will go, n it still tries to drown my highs, these things hit so hard. worth the price

I have 2 of these in a subzone pre-fab box abd boy do they slam. in a custom box these thing do damage!!!

I purchased them just for a little thump until I could get a set of L7's or a solo-x, but I got way more than what I expected. they handle whatever thrown at them with ease.

I'm very pleased with the performance of these woofers and cant wait to upgrade to some even better kickers.

Wow..

The following review is for a previous version (05S12L54).

I bought only one of these from this website, and thats all you really need is one. This thing pounds. Since it is a square subwoofer, it has more surface area then a round subwoofer so it moves more air causing more bass. I have this hooked up to a 550 watt RMS Kenwood amp and it is awesome. Definitely recomend getting one, kind of expensive but this website has one of the cheapest prices on the net.

Hard Bass

I own two of these and i have them hooked up to a Memphis 1100 watt mono amp and these POUND! The subs hit so hard in my 03' Eclipse that the vibration broke my trunk lock. If you have a powerful amp to push these, then buy these subs! They are more expensive than others but well worth the money!

Great Subs

The following review is for a previous version (S12L54).

This is by far one of the best subwoofers ive ever owned/heard. It will truly give you the bang for your buck. If you buy one of these make sure you give it around 10 hours of smooth playing to break it in or it will blow. You only want to push out 750 watts with one of Kicker's amps to power this baby

Nice Sounding Bass!

The following review is for a previous version (S12L54).

I bought this a couple months ago and I'm really surprised on how well this works! I have it in a full size bronco. (which it is really hard to get good sound from a big truck) It's in a factory ported box and it actually works well for how small it is, along with a audio htc 1500 I'm pushing 1400 watts to it and it handles everything i throw at it! never distorts Just keeps POUNDING!!! It's better than the audiobahn external and the ultra excursian. Would buy one again for the price for what you get can't beat it. It would REALLY POUND in a smaller car! Can't wait to put it in my sunfire.

Cant beat it for the price

The following review is for a previous version (S12L54).

I have tested out a bunch of subs in the $100-150 and this blows the rest away. Alpine type r has nothing on this sub. Nothing else will hit as hard for this price period. Just one in a ported box shakes my whole car. Get it for serious deep bass just make sure you put alot of power to it and wire the voice coils correctly

Great Sub

The following review is for a previous version (05S12L54).

I have owned this for about three months, unfortunately in a junk box, but I must say this subwoofer is quite impressive. I like the idea of a square, because that increases the subwoofer surface area from 113 sq inches to 144 sq inches in comparison with a circle sub. That's 27% more surface area! This is personally the best buy I ever made. Unfortunately, this website sells it for a lot higher than I paid for it. I got it on a special discount of 2 for 250 bux, which is 125 each. But undiscounted, the price on this website is quite good. Like the other reviewers, I highly recommend this subwoofer.

I was at a bigger cities local store and testing these speakers out and the guy came over from the install garage and asked us to turn them down b 4 we got management on us about it.

Love the bass compared to the round subs. As put on the lil show that they have on another kicker sub, square equalz more cone space to move more air!!!!

Would recommend these or if you wanna get with it go the L7!!!!!!!!!

Intense, as expected....

The following review is for a previous version (S12L54).

Holy crap these are loud! With 2 L5's in a sealed bow with a 1000x1 class D amp, you can lift the dust from your seats into a visible cloud in the air. You can feel air currents moving aruond your body. You feel your hair flap in the wind. You can't see out of the rear view mirror, ever.

The down side is that the midbass is very flat as the frequency response rolls off, and even with 6.5" midbass speakers, there is a big gap around 100hz. Oh well, I don't like the way 100hz sounds anyways. I want my bass from 30-80 hz. With sealed box and lots of power, 30-80 hz is very tight (low Q factor) and very loud.

Worth it!

The following review is for a previous version (S12L54).

These subs get very very loud, brutally loud in a ported enclosure. Mine are in 3.25 cubic feet each, and they slam, and I haven't even taken them as far as they can go. At a more normal level of bass, they surprised me with their SQ, and have very rich, full, soft bass.
