Awesome!
All around great stereo! Great sound quality, and lots of tuning options to fine tune the sound! As posted above there is a play pause on the front it is also the band button.

Great head unit!
Tons of features, everything works flawlessly. I've always had the best luck with Pioneer stereos, and this new model doesn't disappoint. HD radio is nice to have, and the equalizer has several bands. The only thing I haven't used is the Mixtrax. Pretty sure it doesn't work with a Bluetooth connection. Overall this is the best (single din) head unit I've owned to date.

BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP LOOKING!!!!!!
Well I got this amp thinking, Ok it's got HD Radio, surely it's got a good clean sound that it produces and thats what I was after, not looks or features so much.... Well, it's phenomenally clear. This head unit is able to reproduce music on such a clear level that the background noise in a song, like pianos, bass guitar, little tiny things you never noticed before, actually stand out and littleraly make you smile, cause you're hearing music like you're supposed to. Just like it was meant to be heard in the studio.
The thing is with this head-unit, is, it's like a grown-up head unit. No, it doesn't look flashy, or have a tv attached to it, but mo-money-mo-problems. Besides, I think it looks rather; classy, modern, and adult. And the more stuff you have.... the more that can break, and the more SH-TUFF you have in it the less time and energy can be focused on the sound, like this one. This unit mainly THRIVES in one area. MAKING THE CLEANEST PUREST SIGNAL POSSIBLE. With a THD of 0.02 at the CD player, I knew it would be good start, but it not only doesn't distort the sound... but It picks up on all the subtle ones too, especially the lower end frequencies. You wanna have good clean bass? Thats a subtle sound (it's supposed to be anyway), that usually tries to have a big impact!! It's gotta come from somewhere. And the thing with stereo systems is that it's only as good as it's weakest link. If you have a high quality amp but crappy sound going to it, it's still gonna sound bad when it gets to the subs. This head-unit has added the lower range bass in the vocals that I was so DESPERATELY looking for. I was thinking about getting 15"s to make the same tone difference this head-unit creates. It's SUCH A FULL-ER SOUND. I can't wait to hook up the crescendo amps!!!!!!!!! I'm sure I'll be screaming about this amp then.
I mean, even if you want to do a competition build this thing has 6 pre-outs!!! They're even 4+ volts too (So this not only does it put out a good clean signal. But that signal is nice and clean, and STRONG) There's nothing more than what you need here. And it does what it's supposed to do, to perfection.... And I can even answer my phone calls through this thing and talk right through the stereo!!!??? I paid around 130 at a pawn shop for that last head-unit, and I couldn't do that then. But it had a dvd player, 7 inch screen, 16 different things you change with the eq.... It also claimed to have a working USB in the front. Never worked for me just charged my phone. (But the DEH-X8700BH worked flawlessly, and it's in the back so it can/has to be professionally installed by pro/you. lol and it looks so much cleaner. Even if you just make that usb cord go in the glove box. you can completely control your phone once it's playing through the head-unit) the "OLD DVD player" head-unit I had, also had a front and rear pre-out, but only 1 single output for my sub. And it was always tuned so G-D HIGH. Now, NONE, and I mean NOTHING hits the vocal lows like this thing does (i thought I had to put in 15" pro-audio mids to reach the lows in the vocals to the likes that this unit already creates) I never heard anything from a head unit under 180 bucks sound this well rounded. (I have changed out 4 head units in my truck, and listened to countless others.) This one sounds the most well rounded, and I the eq adjusted maybe 1 up on one frequency and 1 down on the bass and thats it. You really don't have to adjust the EQ too much cause it already sounds so good. I know I said that twice but I was about to waste 300 bucks on that. (I might still do it anyway lol :-P)
Yes this sound is obtainable elsewhere but pioneer has done very well here, and the price is tough to beat. But from someone who wants a super clear media center/source, and have plenty of expansion room to work with, or not just the head-unit and a sub, might be good for some people, cause it does get a little loud too. (But again thats not this things purpose. It purpose is to give you a super clear signal to your amps in the back.) With good quality components behind the uint like high end amps and speakers and subs, it will be a thing of beauty. Not only that but it is a classy looking head-unit too. This is not a kids radio by any means... "welcome to the big boys"

a GREAT sounding car stereo and upgrade
I bought this unit to replace the stock stereo in my '99 Ford Taurus. The good part is that I was able to remove my underdash ashtray/storage and mount it in that space and it was easy to run the harness kit I got from you from the trunk to the front of the car and hook it up. I got this model mainly for its features (Bluetooth, HD Radio, remote device, etc). TIP: this unit did not sound so great until I turned on the "Loudness" controls (which is apparently a "pre-amp" circuit in the unit). ...then it really sounded good. After tweaking everything to my liking (EQ, etc) I find I can turn this deck up past 3/4 volume without distortion, so at this point I don't really need to add an external amp.
PROS: sounds great at low or high volume. Easy to hook up. Phone feature is very clear w/ both parties without feedback or echo.
CONS: The interface for the controls is not that user-friendly. Be prepared to sort & search thru menus. But....the remote control makes things much easier (I have it mounted on my center console).

Great!
I bought this for my wife and installed myself in her Jeep Liberty. So far we both really like the unit. I originally was looking at the Pioneer 6700, but figured she may like the USB on the back so it can go through the glovebox, and also the display is much better. Since it doesn't have as many buttons on the front like a traditional single DIN receiver, there is a little bit of a learning curve. It only took me about a half an hour to figure everything out, but i had to show her how to do a few things like select preset stations on the HD radio. The interface is pretty intuitive. The ONLY thing i dont like, is that there is no play/pause button the unit. There is a silly mixtrax button, which we will never use, and it would have been perfect if they replaced that button with a play/pause button, or included it somewhere else. Overall we're very happy. Install was a breeze, and the sound quality and features are perfect. Bluetooth audio and phone functions are excellent

good unit
picked this unit over a similarly priced Nakamichi for a few reasons - simple faceplate, HD Radio, and the reviews. have to say I'm super pleased so far. I love the convenience of Bluetooth both for music and phone, the endlessly customizable lights to match my car's dash, and the sound quality. the CD player does not skip even on rough roads and the fit and finish feel good (the knob could be better but it's totally acceptable).

Nice unit
This is a very good unit with plenty of features for the buck. It sounds good & does more than I need it to do. Doesn't take long to learn how to navigate the menus. It's a unit that I highly recommend if you're looking to upgrade.

what... my old radio is better
i own an older deh p8400bh.
it has 3.5mm audio on the front...
usb on the rear
which is where thows connectors should be...
my old deck sounds great... this one probably sounds the same....
but what mine doesnt do is all the advanced phone stuff.
when i went from a galaxy s to an s6... i can no longer use the "bar" to change songs on pandora.
i would give this a 3 just because... my old stereo, at the end of the day, plays the same signal to the amps....

Know what you want!
Almost always you will notice a great deal of improvement in your vehicles sound system by upgrading to an aftermarket stereo. I am a big Pioneer fan across the board. I like their stereos, subs, speakers, and even their Dj controllers. The DEH8700BH is no exception. Its simple, clean, and produces a great sound. These are some things to think about alongside some things that I personally think Pioneer could have done better with this product.
1) the USB hookup is located in the back of the stereo. They give you a cable that you can run from the back of the stereo to the interior of your vehicle. But I personally like it located in the front. And I don't think it has an AUX hook up.
2) The look is clean and simple which I like, but I think it lacks because of simplicity. There is no pause/play button or on/off button. You have to press pause/play on your device to stop and start a song. And you have to pop the faceplate or turn off your vehicle in order to turn off the stereo. Also to skip or go back you have to twist a dial located around the volume knob, which isn't bad a bad thing, just good to know.
3) The EQ is only 5 band. Meaning you can adjust the low, mid low, mid, mid high, and high in the stereo. Being a musician and aspiring producer, I always like more. Because it allows for more clarity and the ability to better adjust your system to your preference.
4) The bluetooth works well but can be a little tricky to hookup to at times.
All things considered, I am pleased with the product and if it has the components you're looking for then yes, I would recommend it for purchase.
Honestly. James.L.Johnson
very good pioneer deck
Works good love the Bluetooth HD radio is ok not the best don't come in that good but USB music works good and plays cds good. And cd deck sounds really good
