Powerful little amp! Gets pretty warm though.....

The following review is for a previous version (GM-A5602).

Okay this is a long review, but i like to study electronics before I buy them so I'm going to try to give a helpful over-all review here for the other people like me. I bought this amp to put in my fiances car. 1992 Toyota Corolla. Between my dad and I, we have owned every model of this Pioneer GM series two channel amp. This is by far the loudest. The wattage ratings for it are definitely accurate. I have it paired with a Pioneer TS-W310S4 (1,400 watts max and 400 rms) running 4 ohms bridged @ 450 watts rms in a vented Belva enclosure. I have installed many stereo systems for family and friends and i am a bit of a car audio enthusiast. This little amp is LOUD. it says it runs 450 watts rms bridged and I know it does every bit of that. I have had Pioneer, Kenwood, and Hifonics amps. I currently have a Hifonics BRX1100.1D running two Kenwood KFC-W3013PS subs running 2 ohms @ 800 watts rms in the back of a 2001 Chevy Impala. This little set up in my fiances car is just as loud as my set up. With the back seat down in her car, its even louder than mine. This amp is very precise and loud with no signal clip or distortion. Beware though, it WILL get hot running it hard for a while. It has no cooling fan. That's why I gave it four stars in some places. I haven't had it kick into protect yet though. Even when it gets hot it doesn't lose power like my Kenwood amp did. I have always been a firm believer in Pioneer products. I replaced all the factory speakers and head unit in both our cars with Pioneer products. Even added some pioneer Tweeters In both cars so the full range would be just as loud as the low frequencies. Over all, you can't go wrong with this amp or any Pioneer products. Sonics low prices and very fast shipping is just icing on the cake.

Great little amplifier!

The following review is for a previous version (GM-A5602).

This is a great little amplifier. I am using it to drive a a pair of component speakers mounted in the front doors of my vehicle. The speakers are rated at 90w x 2 RMS. I had originally tried to power them with an Alpine MRP-T130 that provided 50w x 2, but at higher levels the amp was entering protection mode. This amp is lightweight, but more than powerful enough at 150w x 2 @ 4Ω. The power easily provides excessively loud levels without any perceived distortion for hours on end. I feel that this product represents the best value of any stereo amplifier in this price segment.

Pros:
- CEA-2006 compliant
- Powerful
- Clean (great for highs or subs)
- Very reputable and experienced brand
- Light (improved gas mileage and performance for vehicle)

Cons:
- No single-band parametric EQ if using for a subwoofer
- No remote bass knob for subwoofer
- No high-pass crossover
- Not 1Ω stable (but you shouldn't expect that in this price range)
- Light (Class AB amps tend to be heavier with greater quality amps, but no problems so far)

Pioneer GM-5400T

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

I'm pushing 2 10" Atomic Manhattan subs and the amp is keeping up. I've yet to see how it performs in the summer heat. It's a strong amp and I don't have my gain settings that high.

Decent amp at a decent price

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

I've had an older model and this current model now, used to push 2 kicker comps, and the other to push some Kappa 6x9's. Worked great for pushing the kickers, for over a year it only shut off once, and that was in 100 degree weather after blasting for over an hour. Did a decent job pushing the Kappas as well.

Good cheap amp.

The following review is for a previous version (GM-A5602).

Bought this to power my Pioneer TS-SWX2502, 10" sub. Works fanstasic bridged. It gets warm but never hot enough to trip out. Have yet to hear the bass distort/clip, even blasting it as loud as I can stand.

Great amp for the price, it looks well made.

Not A Bad Deal

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

I have owned this amp for about a month now and am happy with my buy. It is pushing 2 Pioneer 12 inch subs with peak power of 800 watts each. The amp wasn't exactly what I expected but it does the job. Some songs hit pretty hard while others lack. The gain knob on this amp has a "normal" setting and when I tried to turn my amp to this level my subs began cutting out. I have the gain turned down pretty low but it still does alright. The amp does not overheat, it gets pretty warm but that is one thing I like about the amp is it doesn't overheat. Great value for the money but I would suggest buying something a little more powerful if you really want to BUMP. Otherwise this is a great amp and delivers clean bass.

Pioneer GM-5400T

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

I am powering 2- 10" 1000 watt 2 ohm rockford fosgate He2's in a sealed box. I thought 2 ohm stable meant "Stable"!!? Although this amp has its good days, it also will shut off inside its "2-ohm stability"! One amp for each speaker may handle that. Its O.k. for now.

Awesome Power for 2ch

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

Great amp. I have this pushing 2 Pioneer TS-W302Rs putting 125 watts a piece. Setup goes pretty loud and clear too.

Good thing about this is that when I get my new system, I can use this amp for my mids/highs.

I definitely recommend the GM-5400T to anyone with low power subs or high end mids/highs. Pioneer doesn't screw around when it comes to their amps.

Yet again, Pioneer delivers

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

I bought this to replace my existing 600 watt amp, pushing a single Audiobahn 10. My other amp was a much lower quality amp, and couldn't sustain the powerful lows for too long. I've taken a few long trips with this one and it hasn't let up at all. Excellent sound quality, clean connections, and an overall impressive look.

ehhhhh

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

my friends have this amp one that was on two pioneer tsw303rs and i bridged at 8 ohms and it beat pretty damn good. then i put it on my two hifonics hfi12d4 and it HIT until it overheated and shut off after about 10 mins in 80 degree heat each channel wired at 2ohms which says its stable. and then my friends dual bandpass box (cool looking decent sound lows suck though.) and its wired at 4 ohms and still overheats but if you can keep this amp cool it'll pound!

durable amd reliable

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5500T).

I build competition boxes for other peoples high dollar sound systems, but don't have the money for a great one myself, so I got this amp with 2 kicker comp 12's wired to 2 ohms in an isobaric 6th order bandpass that u build, and its a lot louder and clearer than many of the other similar systems I've heard, I would highly recommend it for the low budget bass head, I've even spliced a 3rd Kenwood excelon 1000w into it for a short period if time with no problems.

affordable, powerful!

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5400T).

I have this amp bridged at a 4ohm load running a single 12" Sony xplod SVC sub and it is suprisingly loud! It has only went into protect mode twice on me in just over a year and that was after a good hour at near full volume on some very bass heavy songs. I dont like the fact that the LPF is not adjustable but other then that its a great amp!

Gm-5500T

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5500T).

This is an awesome amp, works great with my 12, but works great with 2-10's also. If I had the room I would have went with 2-10's instead of a 12, mostly because I love rock and blues, but the 12 sounds great with rap, hip hop, and r&b. Over all sounds and works great off built in line level tied in with my stock 2002 Grand Prix Bose stereo.

Works real güd

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5500T).

Im runnin the amp with my 820W JL subs and sometimes they'll draw too much power but I haven't had anything break! With that much power the only thing to worry about would be blowing the fuse on my power cord (which has happened a few times, but it's no big deal)
All together a great product and I am a pioneer fan!

Good Amp

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5500T).

I have this amp hooked up to my pioneer TS-W309S4 12-inch sub in a vented box and its hits VERY hard for a cheep 12. If I bump hard for 30 min or so it does get quite hot and nearly burns my hand, however, it hasn't gotten to the point where it shuts off or creates any problems. I would recommend this amp for anyone who has a the same/similar set-up a I do. I've owned this amp for six months now and I haven't had a single problem, great product for me.

Good amp. keep in mind that 800w is the absolute max, but you probably wont be able to achieve that. This is how all amps are. cut the wattage in half and that's what you will be closer to.

tank

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5500T).

I have a pioneer champion pro 12 (the dual 4 version) and i have it wired to 2 ohms. The amp claims to be only 4 ohm stable. But ive run this thing on 2 ohms right out of the box. Yeah, it overheats in about 30 minutes of full on slamming, but thats not bad for running it at half the rated level of resistance. This thing is a tank. With really good sound quality as well. Worth the money!!!

With few features, it still sounds good

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5300T).

Still lacking any subsonic filter, variable bass boost or low pass, it still is one beastly amplifier. With its minimal adjustment options, its great for a novice user. It has an adjustable gain, bass boost (either 0dB, 6dB, or 12dB), and a Low Pass Filter (either on or off, if on, it cuts off frequencys above 80Hz). Its a great looking amp, lights blue at night too.

Fair

The following review is for a previous version (GM-5500T).

Got it installed, discovered that it may be 2ohm stable. I'm running 2 XS-GTX120LW, with a 1.8 cap, and a 40 amp fuse from the fuse block. I bridged the two woofers, The amp got hot very fast, blew the fuse. The two fuses were still good in the amp. I would not run it bridged. I will run it at 4ohm now. It seems to be a fair amp despite me trying to get all of the power out of it which isn't possible, as of right now. I would buy another one for the price and warranty, it's seems to do what I want it to do for the moment.

Certified on a Budget

The following review is for a previous version (GM-A5602).

Perfect match for a 10 year old KFC-W3011 sub. The 450w RMS certified pioneer amp has no problem giving life to a 400w RMS Kenwood sub. I even used my multi-meter and a 40Hz test tone along with my excelon head unit and had no problem getting what I wanted out of this amp. The amp is bridged at 4ohms and hits just right for a small car setup. At some point I plan to try this same amp out on a pair of 6x9s. I have no complaints.
